The ones listed from Amazon Warehouse are not from an authorized dealer most of the time.

Be careful all of you beginners. During the first of December I dusted off my 35 year old Nikon SLR and lenses and gave them to a friend who is really into film. Then I thought about my point and shoot I had been using for the past two years and thought I sure miss a decent camera. Based on the reviews and the fact I was basically a DSLR novice I ordered a Pentax K-50 with an 18-135 lens. The K-50 became a big favorite in the house and I never got to use it. Then I ordered more lenses. Finally, I decided to get another camera body so I would have one to use. So in a month and a half I went from no DSLR to a K-50, a K-3, an 18-135 Pentax lens, a 50 mm Pentax lens, A 70-200 f2.8 Tamron lens and a Sigma 17-70 lens. Well you get the point, now I need a 12 step program.

I Bought A K-3 Yesterday

Earlier in the week I posted asking for advice on which camera to buy since the K-50 had been appropriated by the family. I got lots and lots of advice, all of it good and well informed. I will start by saying I love the K-50 and will be happy to shoot with it when the K-3 gets appropriated. I was just about to pull the plug on another K-50 when I was asked why not get a different model so we have more options available. Good question. So I then started seriously considering the K-5 iis because of the anti-aliasing or lack there of. Then I thought, what if I have moire problems. Then after reading many reviews I thought it would be nice to decide it I wanted to use ant-aliasing or not use it as the case warrants. The frugal part of me thought there is no way I am paying $1,300 for a camera body and the logical part of me thought that I tend to buy good things and keep them forever. I am not one to buy the latest fad and then move on to the next fad. I had my Nikon slr camera for over 35 years. Given that it suddenly made sense to buy the best available at the time and grow into it's capabilities since I will have it until it dies. Then low and behold Amazon had the K-3 of $1,104 from Amazon. so it has a USA warranty, plus they had zero interest financing for 12 months. I can't wait until it arrives.

OK, I think I have decided on another K-50 to prevent camera envy in the household and I think it will serve my needs now and in the future at least for a couple of years. With that said I have saved some money. I have the Pentax SMCP DA 50 1.8, Pentax SMCP DA 18-135 and a Tamron SP AF 70-200 2.8. Can anyone suggest a good street lens in the 18-70 range or another suggestion?

I agree totally. I would be better at this point getting really good glass and a good K-50. That way, when I do upgrade I will have the good glass already.

Many thanks for a very well stated and informative response. You confirmed what I had suspected. It sounds like when I changed from the Canon SLR I had at the age of 13 to the Nikon and advanced lenses. The much better camera showed me how poor I was as a photographer and pointed out many faults the other camera wasn't discerning enough to bring to the forefront. In fact, for a fair amount of time my lesser Canon produced the better output because it matched my expertise. Using the K-50 I feel it is relatively easy to get really good shots fairly easily once I adjusted to the settings.

Actually, I think I would like any of them fine and I don't know enough or have enough experience with different digital cameras to know the difference. I hope to get some input from you more experienced people. When you consider the K-50 and K-5iis are half the price of a K-3 it is worth taking some time and considering the purchase.

Great idea, but I have a feeling that I would end up using the used camera. In fact, I bet if I buy a K-3 I will end up using the K-50. Not a bad thing, I love seeing someone get passionate about a new hobby.

I have been leaning that way because I tend to buy a camera and keep it a long long time. In fact, this is my first foray into digital I finally gave a friend my old Nikon film camera and lenses that were 35 years old.

It seems that I almost never get to use the K-50 I bought for Christmas due to other household members hogging it all the time. I just completed my income tax returns and will be getting a decent refund, so I have been thinking about getting another camera body so I can actually take some photos. Naturally I want to get the most bang for the buck, but I don't want to cheap out and be unhappy later. Should I get another K-50 (I love this camera when I use it) or should I seriously consider getting a K-3? Your thoughts on this will be appreciated.

I am so happy I waited for lots of input instead of spending money without a good reason. It is easy to trash something with words but the real proof is the photos and I have to say I have been happy with my 18-135 but after reading so much verbal trashing I was convinced I could have even better. The pics don't give me justification to spend the money, they give me justification for becoming more in tune with my lens and becoming a better photographer with the tools I have. I do thin my purchase of the Tamron 70-200 was a smart move for the faster lens and the longer reach for wild life. Thanks everyone.

So, it looks like I already have the better lens for a damp vacation unless Pentax comes out with one before I leave. Thanks for the input.

I tend to do the same as you, rain coat and big hat. It might just be us but I never really felt like testing the WR thing, it just makes me feel better if I accidentally get water on the camera and lens.
