In these cases, I used AV mode and selected 9 AF. I haven't yet found the sweet spot of the lens, but was trying to get the most of the bird in focus. Also, was inside a car, so tripod was not an option. I know I have a lot of practice yet to do and appreciate all your comments and will try to have those in mind in future shots... sometimes it is so frustrating to see some shots here in these forums were focus is just there, even in simpler photos, and I can't seem to get it.... but practice will surely help as well your assistance...

Thanks. I totally understand your point. I did some detail enhancements in the second and third, and some exposure compensation in the third as well, but when I exported the files to jpeg and reduced their size, they all went darker.....

Thank you all for your replies.
The DA 35 seems to be the way to go just as Sandy Hancock said "...good value for the money. So you have nothing to loose!"
The 31 is the holy grail, so a bit out of reach for me ATM.
Nevertheless, as also well noted, the CP+ is just around the corner, so I will wait a couple of weeks more to see what comes out there...
Cheers!

Hi!
I am thinking about adding a 35mm lens to my kit. This is because I think that from what I read, the 35mm in the K3 will be more of a normal lens than the 50mm (please correct me if I'm wrong...). But I am not sure which one to get: the Pentax 35mm HD macro, the Sigma 18-35, or, budget wise, the Samyang 35mm that is the cheapest as well the fastest but manual.... Can you enlighten me on what might be the best lens to get?
Thanks

One brand I like in particular is Mindshift Gear. They are not that cheap but have some good solutions and nice materials. I like the rotation/belt system they have...
But as Sergy said, hundreds of replies will follow your question...😜

just a quote from the newly released Sigma 150-600 price information:
"Sigma Corporation of America, a leading researcher, developer, manufacturer and service provider of some of the world's most impressive lines of lenses, cameras and flashes, has announced pricing and availability of its 150-600mm F/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Contemporary lens. The lens will become available in Canon and Nikon mounts in March for the street price of $1089."
So yes, Pentax is Pentax, but this lens - although the Sigma does not exist (yet) in a K-mout - is overpriced (at least until we see some samples)...
(but, damn... Pentax is desirable..)

I was waiting for this lens to pair it with my K3. But after I saw it it this article I am not so sure if today's airport security will allow me to pass with it as they might mistaken it for a bazooka ... Nevertheless I think that the grip will give it more balance and now just have to stop paying the mortgage to get one of this ... Well, I think that we will have some time to get some (good) reviews and to see if it will work also with the HD 1.4x coverter (then it will really blow away...)
Cheers,

I am also interested in what his combo might do. I just ordered the TC and I am will be waiting now for the new Pentax long zoom lens. But this combo could be an alternative for the time being (even because the waiting can be long)... Has anyone some other insights and experiences?...

I add the Pentax AF-360 FGZ II to my gear and have been going through the manual and doing some tests. In one of the tests I have set the built-in flash to controller and the AF-360 off-camera as a slave. However, based on the light direction, sometimes I am not able to fully eliminate the shadow casted by the built-in flash over the 18-135 lens at is widest aperture. In another thread I read that in the K5 it was possible to wirelessly control a flash without triggering the one in the camera, but I was not able to discover how to do that in the K3. :o
Can anyone give me some hints on this?
Thanks

Thanks guys.
After the comment from "Not A Number" I just dig a bit further in and found a smc M 50 1.7. It is attached to a a ME Super with a kenko 2x kax macro teleplus mc7 and has on the side a smc M 1.4 75-150. Forget the camera. What about the lenses? it comes at around 95US$. Buy or not?

Hi.
I am interested in buying a prime. Older, Cheaper, Good. I found a Pentax smc A 50mmm 1.7m, read the reviews and it seems a logical choice (to be used in a K3). I am trying to buy it for 50€ (around US$68). Is this a good deal? Can I use it afterwards with the Catch in focus mode? My idea is on one hand to develop photo technique and on the other a general lens with a more "close to the eye" view.
What would be your recommendation?
Thanks.

Thank you to you all. The microfiber cloth and paper tissues are now part of my "standard" equipment. Next saturday I will participate in a nature workshop and weather forecast is not that good, so now I feel a bit more confident in enjoying it without worries...

Hi mates!
Yesterday I went for some shooting with my K3 and the 18-135 WR. In the meantime it started to slightly rain but I was not worried about it due to the piece of mind that WR gives you. But afterwards I started think: how to securely clean/dry the gear? What is your experience and comments on this? As me, coming from a "rebel/EOS D" world I never give any thoughts on this because at the first drop I just tucked my gear and headed to a shelter..... :o
Looking to receive your feedback so that I can enjoy this winter's rain more...

Hi everyone!
I am facing an issue with the images taken with the built-in flash from my K3 and it's 18-135 lens mounted in. In brief: when shooting with the built-in flash and the 18-135 in it's shorter focal lengths there is a shadow creeping center below. At extended lengths it tends to disappear but still present. The issue is less prone to occur without the cap but still happens.
Might be a user technique issue, but can anyone give me some hints on how to solve this?
Thanks.

Thanks for the recommendations Ron.
My backpack (a Vanguard Uprise 45) is already packed with some of the gear you recommend (a tripod - Vanguard Alta Pro 264 AB 100 - the battery grip already juiced, Sandisk Extreme Pro 16&32gb) and I use Lightroom 4. Still missing a polarizer and the blower but, as I said, my back account is now in a "inducted coma" and needs to recover... So, on the gear side I am more or less covered. My question is more on the Pentax specifics: what can be the best settings to fine tune the camera for sharper photos and/or what is that green button function? All those kind of Pentax novice questions - but that also reading the manual, experiment and reading the forum can give some hints...
Cheers.

Thanks to you all.
I have to play with my new toy, that's a fact. And as a web geek usually says in his shirts: "I shoot raw".
Let us have fun.

Hi everybody.
I just entered the Pentax world by buying my first Pentax and, of course, by registering in PentaxForums. I have been playing with my new K3 for a week and I am just amazed by the solid rock that it is, it's ergonomics and, most important, by the quality of the images it produces right out of the camera. But, as a newborn to the Pentax system, what are your best advices to get the most out of the (also new) K3?
By the way, I bought the K3 kit with the 18-135kit plus the handgrip. As soon my budget recovers I intend to buy the 100 wr macro and then the 60-250 (not necessary by this order) as my interests are nature, wildlife and macro.
Looking forward to receive your comments.
Cheers from Portugal.
