Germany's most important newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) published today a very positive review about the Pentax K-1, joking a bit about its heft in the title. Until now it's not online for free access, but I suppose it will appear during the next days. I'll post the link when available.
It especially lauds ergonomics, picture quality, backwards comptability of lenses and menu structure. As to be expected, the reviewer is not as enthusiastic about movie mode and AF performance. Still, all in all a very positive review which is especially valuable given that not too many DSLRs are reviewed by FAZ.

Is there an easy way to keep threads, started by ignored forum members, from appearing in the "latest threads" section of the forum homepage?

With respect, I think that assumption is the reason you've had quite a lot of negative and vociferous responses to your other posts on this subject... It really hasn't been clear that you meant "for me". Those posts have - perhaps unintentionally - come across as bashing Pentax and stating as fact that aspects of the K-1 are useless... which is a shame, because I can see now that you acknowledge it will be great for many people - just not for you.
Here's hoping they develop the video side further. It would be nice for you to have a suitable upgrade / renewal path from your K-5 should you ever need or want it. :)

Also, is anyone else from the forum attending?

I have been using Pentax SLRs (and only Pentax SLRs) since about 1967. Although I've had success with APS-C SLRs, and I don't use any of my older lenses on digital cameras, I still want to get back to that experience of big viewfinders and top quality.
I often shoot fast moving objects: airshows, motorsports, birds in flight, etc. I get too many cases of clipped wings, not getting all of a fast bike in the frame, etc. I want to get the same number of pixels of the subject, with more space around it.
And most important of all - forget all my attempts at rational judgment; I just lusted after it! So I pre-ordered it (plus battery grip) from SRS about 12 hours ago.

To put a positive spin on it, view it as an example of 'under-promising, but over-delivering' by Ricoh.

I do a lot of street photography.
If you need a little more stability, get a small and cheap tripod and use it against your chest: then your camera, tripod, arms and trunk will then act like a solid object, pivoting on your waist and dampened by your legs and knees.

Brought my K-3 to work today because I might have needed my 100mm macro for some work. I mostly used the 50mm f/1.8, but I did end up using the 100mm for a few. Here's a "sampling" from earlier today.

A photography tip and a mood booster:
If you're feeling glum about something--the endless snowy weather, the nearly dried river, the annoying woodpecker trying to get through your siding, etc--take its picture. Work to make the annoyance beautiful through photography. It will force you to reach outside your perspective to get a shot, which can lead to some really creative photos, and it will help you feel better about circumstances you may not be able to change (or give you an idea about how to fix a situation).

I too will be in Scotland at the end of May into June. I am, intentionally, not staying in any one place too long, and the only true "touristy" things I'll be doing is aiming for the puffins on Westray and my final two nights will be in Edinburgh. The rest of the time I plan to be off the beaten path as much as possible. Keep any eye out for the confused green backpack carrying a Canon, a 645N (yup, shooting film) and hopefully a 645D/Z to capture the gorgeous countryside. Enjoying all this advice!

I could catch the last two days of his Lewis and Harris workshop if it wasn't already full.

Iain Cameron, a landscape photographer near me has some pointers on his site: Scotland : Transient Light
Scotland is really spoiled for choice.
I'd also recommend trying the whisky ;)

I might be able to tell you after May as my wife and I are going for 5 weeks this May/June. Our trip will be mostly on islands (Outer Hebrides, Orkneys and Shetlands) and the two large cities. I do not recall seeing much info of the type you have requested during my research. If you do see an "old" couple with Pentaxs, Holgas and Hasselblads then it is probably us :)
You might be best to do a search on photo tours and photo workshops.

I guess it has to be a Sony. Nobody want a Canon sensor, probably not even Canon.
