Once again, I am mystified by all these answers to your (very general) question, without anyone knowing what you actually prefer to shoot or take pictures of? Since I am mostly a travel and landscape photographer, the second GRIII choice with ultra-wide lens would be a good complement to a 28mm FF equivalent, but that may or may not be your emphasis? If you took mostly portraits and macro shots, my recommendation would be completely different - a nice and light Pentax macro lens to go along the very light 18-50mm pancake, a prime, and/or the Pentax 20-40mm lens with your K50, for example. I have the K30, which has 25K+ shutter actuations. and travel light with the 18-50mm pancake zoom and a Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6. Suspicious of option one that is being sold for the second time, or maybe the GRIII is not the be-all, end-all camera for everyone...

The GR III is a fantastic camera. I got it as soon as it was available in the US and have used it since. However... these cameras aren't without issues which sometimes need to be addressed by repairs. I personally used both years of my warranty (one-year extended through my Visa credit card) and when that was all through, I sold my first one at a lower price and bought another, with the 3-year extended secondary warranty. My rear dial had problems and my sensor needed a cleaning during those first two years. You might get lucky and never need anything, but I personally feel for such a pricey small camera that is designed to go with me everywhere, I wanted backup protection.

Mt KP and my GR III, despite having nearly identical sensors, are polar opposites.

I have never owned a Ricoh GRIII but I read about problems with dust on the sensor, the camera needs to be sent it for that.
I'd rather buy a K-S1 with the DA40XS and/or DA21.
But of course the size and weight is still different.
A friend uses the Sigma DP2 Merrill (30mm/2,8 lens but fix!)
I had a chance to used to borough it: Image quality is great (RAW only with Sigma PhotoPro though!)
It is a very basic camera which is slow in processing, only usefull for ISO 100-200 but otherwise I like it very much.
But one disadvantage which I find difficult to live with:
The LCD is as sensitive to sunlight as I remember it from the Pentax K-01 and in bright sunlight with glasses on one has to guess,
that bad reflection is. IMO this is going to be more and more a problem because when the sun is out it is brighter then it ever was!
It's about 3 years ago when I gave up my K-01 for the K-S1 for and this was one of the reasons.
The seperate Viewfinder is kind of o.k., an aid, but nothing more.
I guess that applies as well to the viewfinder of the GRIII
Of course, the K-S1 can be found only 2nd hand but on Amazon Germany there are good offers.
The K-S1 can have the same "dark-image-syndrom" as the K-50 but the repair is easy and straight forward
if ever it would happen.

I have used a non-dedicated handlebar bag for my K-50 & DA40. I did damage the bottom plate where it bounced around and collided with the stem. Make sure there is plenty of padding in whatever solution you end up with.

Hi
Old K-mount user from the film era. Finaly I now use a good digital camera - Pentax K-1. I prior used Chinon cameras for film and I still use Chinon for B/W film.

Good of you to have put the car in the picture. Without the car the picture just would have been doll. Foreground and background have the same colour so it is not a photo of a car, but a sunset. Nice.

Manual/Takumar/M42 Screwmount lenses on Pentax DSLRs

In a nutshell:
First, if your camera won't fire, set "Allow aperture setting other than A" to 2 (allowed) in the custom function menu. Then: - Set your camera to M mode using the mode dial (your camera won't fire in other modes*)
- Compose and focus your image.
- Using the aperture ring (the ring at the very back of your lens; it will have numbers such as 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8 written on it), select your desired aperture setting. Note that the smaller the aperture number is, the more light passes through the lens, and the blurrier the out of focus areas of your photograph will be.
- [Screwmount lenses only] Switch the diaphragm clutch on your lens to "Manual" (you can leave it on Auto when composing and focusing).
- Measure the light by either pressing the "Green Button", or pushing your power button to DOF preview mode (only available on select bodies). Your camera will automatically set the shutter speed for you.
All that's left now is for you to press the shutter release button to take your photo. Congratulations- you've now learned how to use M42 and M & K manual lenses with Pentax DSLRs!
*Screwmount lenses may also be used in Av mode since they are always stopped down to the aperture you will be shooting at (unlike M&K lenses, which are stopped down only when the shutter is released or when you meter as described above).

An occasional issue with late Takumar lenses: Why is the Auto/Man diaphragm clutch stuck on my S-M-C Takumar lens?
If your manual focus lens has an "A" setting on the aperture ring, leave it in "A" and instead use the e-dials on your camera to control the shutter speed and aperture. Don't follow the steps above.
