I am travelling to Poland next week and it would be cool if this company was in the same city as I am going to (Gdansk). I need to do some searching in the forums, it seems.

Thanks. I have some experience repairing digital cameras and lenses. And I also have the equipment needed to repair MZ-5. But not sure if it's worth it. The camera has been unused for 10+ years and I don't need a working MZ-5.
But I see what I do. First issue is to find a new gear..........

During Easter I got to use almost 2 full films in my old Pentax MZ-5.
What happened at the end of the second film, I can't quite say what it is, so that's why I'm asking here.
I was about to take a picture and noticed that the autofocus was unstable and suddenly the viewfinder went dark and the film rewinded. I hadn't pressed the trigger more than halfway down. This happened on frame 17 or 18 of a 24-frame film.
The film was completely wound into the cassette and I took it out. The mirror was still up, even after repeatedly turning the camera off and on. And the aperture on the lens was closed to the smallest opening.
Finally, I took the battery out and put it back in. Then the camera buzzed a bit and the mirror went down and the aperture opened. If I "dry-shoot" without film in the camera, then everything works normally now.
The question then is:
1. Was this just a random error
2. Is this an initial sign that the gears are failing and the mirror mechanism is stopping.
When I write this, it definitely seems like a number 2, but it's a bit strange that it looks good now afterwards. I would think a cracked gear was definitely over and done with.
Any views?

For me, it is not about loss of detail. The main issue is that the noise profile of this and some other Pentax cameras are unique and the AI noise suppression in software, like Lightroom, doesn't recognize it and by that, cannot remove it. And that is a little bit sad when you see what a tremendously good job Lightroom does on other cameras like K-50 or K-5 IIs. For me, K-5 IIs is a better option on high iso than K-3 III, only because of the missing AI noise suppression for K-3 III.

I am not sure it will be a PLM when they told how difficult that was to implement for the DA*16-50. PLM is not suited for large lenses. It could just as well have a large ring SDM as the DFA*70-200/2.8 and DFA*50/1.4.

But I was writing about the distance ring and not the focal length. A-series lenses does not send info about the distance. Not either the old smc DA35/2.8 macro.

The reason is that older lenses does not send accurate information back to the camera what the distance on the lens is. Older lenses does not have the hardware which is necessary.

Yes, it is possible. The problem is almost non-existent at the moment. I am back from vacation and I dont know what has changed. Maybe the temperature from southern California to winter in Norway.
I am pretty sure you will not experience any problem. If this was a general problem, a lot more people than just me would complain about it. ---------- Post added 16-11-23 at 20:11 ----------
No. There is no problem with focusing. The problem with the lens happens when the camera is turned on and I change focal length (zooming). I am not pressing the shutter button nor any other button, only zooming.
The lens is not parfocal. It change focus a lot when camera is off. Perhaps they have implemented som clever AF stuff that try to focus when I am zooming, I don't know. In that case, they must have changed something recently.

It will probably never happen as this is a physical limitation.

The problem is that the the focus is changing a lot from infinity to nearest focus and back to infinity again when I am zooming. It mostly change focus around 35mm. But it doesn't always do this. And never with a K50. This has recently started and it is still happening with 2.11.

I have experienced some trouble with the HD DA*16-50/2.8 PLM since firmware 2.10 so I really hope it is those problems that is fixed :-)

I got the solenoid today from a Norwegian repair shop. As usual, we have to pay premium price for stuff like this and the price was NOK490 or £38 including tax and postage. But it is a fair price to pay for getting a nice K-50 working again.
The one on the top is the new one. The two in the middle from two different K-50 and the one on the bottom, an ebay solenoid. |

If someone in GB is willing to help me out here and send me 5 of those solenoids, I will of course pay all the costs and an extra 20£ for the trouble.

It would be really nice if it was possible to buy those somewhere. I have a K-50 in for repair and it is impossible to find a good solenoid for a reasonable price. If the new one was available in large quantities, it would bring the price down.

The answer is on page 121 in the user manual. K-3 III is not able to synchronize time from O-GPS. And then it is not necessary to know anything about time zones, either.
When it synchronize time from the phone, it use the phones local time. The O-GPS has only UTC time.

I use the rear button, but only when I want to cancel AF and use MF temporarily. I found after many years with back button focusing that I almost always want AF when taking a photo. So I configured the button to cancel AF instead and it is more useful for me and my usage.
And with the new K-3 III firmware, I have programmed AE-L to temporarily activate AF-C while that button is pressed. So MF with AF-button and AF-C with AE-L button :-)

On older cameras, it is possible to configure what time zone to use. But on K-3 III, there is no option for setting time zone.
So the question is then: How does K-3 III know what the local time is when used with O-GPSn. Are the time zones around the world loaded into the camera so that it can find out on it's own when latitude & longitude are known?
