Like many of you I have a love for photography. I have enjoyed capturing the moment and scene over the years. Starting with a variety of compact 35mm cameras, I longed for more control and quality. I finally invested in my first SLR in college without knowing much about brands or the variety and quality of lenses and took an elective photography class. I had purchased a Nikon with what's likely one of their lowest rated lenses to date. It was a good camera (so so kit lens )that served well enough (to shoot 2 weddings for friends and family) until its electronics started to fail roughly 12 years later. Digital had been growing but dslrs were still young and very expensive. I didn't have time and access to seek out a used slr while working on a volunteer budget in a remote part of the world. So was back to compacts which now offered some creative control. Wearing out two of them and many years later I purchased a K-5 this past fall.
I have been pleased with the photographic results and continue to learn its feature sets. But I feel limited with my kit lens shooting in the 50-55mm range. Things just aren't crisp as they ought to be. Also light is not fast as I would like. People here are camera shy and somewhat suspicious when capturing the culture around me. Being quick and not sticking out helps, then I can share more of the culture and the country's nature. Having a small quick normal view lens would be great. I am on a very tight budget working with a non-profit in Kazakhstan and trying to get my first child through college without the funds for it. Winning a lens may be the only way I'll experience and own anything like the 50mm being offered. Please Consider me with your vote.
