Thanks, LaRee.

Yesterday, I downloaded RAWTherapee 2.3 and SilkyPix Studio 3, played with them, I should have done so earlier. I wasted a lot of my life in studying the Pentax software and confused, I almost got all what I have been looking for, but then to be fair, may be those reading did help more to understanding the 2 software better. I will buy the RAWTherapee first and then 99% I will also buy the SilkyPix 3, for its process JPG too.

Thanks for the info, I will go and to learn there, I wish I can find a way for searching the info I want.

dpreview is a good site, but better monitor of the site is needed by the Administrators, many people are obviously just not interested in photography and go there to seek for excessive attention and/or with other motives at least in the FTF. Many good friends already left or playing less visits there. Hopefully, after a while it will resume normal. PTF has a very strong community feel it still does.

Again thank you for your advices, apart from PP, I am also trying to improve my photographic skills, read some books about composition lately. I am teaching my son photography, I guess you are also teaching your son photography.

Take care and have a wonderful weekend.

Danny

Thanks GM,

HK is a great place for photography, both the city and country sides. The smog problem is improving, hopefully we can have more blue skies this years.

Yes, I agree with you, I prefer to spend time taking pictures than PPing them.

Best Regards,

Danny

Thank you for your kind words LaRee, this is danny_only from PTP. You are always kind to newbie and giving out encouragement.

Thanks for the info, this afternoon, I checked the price of Lightroom, it is higher than I expected to pay. So I will most likely get a SilkPix 3.0 (about US$100 cheaper).

I will try playing with the Pentax software for 1 more week and download the RAWtherapee again, the one previous downloaded is crashed. If they are not suitable for me I will purchase other software. Actually my needs are rather simply, I want to know is it necessary or how to disable the Auto Image Fix in Photo Browser. Secondly, how to achieve the result of lighting shadows and darkening highlights of the pictures I took in Photo Laboratary. I have a book about SilkPix 3.0, real easy to do so:p I will look for more information in the DSLR section.

A lot to learn. I brought the K100D Super for almost 8 months, still play with the P & S a lot. It is about time to do some studies.

Hi,

I was testing my Tarmon 18-250mm lens, it was my first serious uses of this lens.

Tarmon 18-250mm Pictures

Sigma 10-20mm Pictures

I need some opinion and suggestion about software to PP my RAW pictures. I know very basic PP, I am using Photo Elements 4 to edit my JPG files and I used the Pentax Laboratory Program which comes with camera to do RAW conversion, but recently I found it will make small modification to my pictures without me noticing it, so I used Irfanview to do the conversion now.

I had downloaded RAWTHERAPEE as suggested by a poster friend in the dpreview forum. Should I spend more time in trying to figure why there are small changes and use the Laboratory program more OR switch to RAWTHERAPEE/other program.

Thanks in advance, I am a newbie here, My second post. In the future, I will try asking technical questions in the DSLR discussion section.

Hi K100d,

Thank you for your kind words. I will post some cityscape to refresh your memory of the 'OLD world', I hope you like them.

Thanks for understanding:p

Without those country sides, city life will be highly miserable. 7 million people living in a 300+ (including rough mountain areas and many small outlying islands, not suitable for inhabitation)sq miles small area:-(

There are many places which we can do hiking, some are dangerous (accidents do happen)and physical demanding. Most are easy family based hiking routes.

'OLD world'

'Family Based Hiking route'

These pics were taken when I first brought the K100D Super, so please give allowance to my PP problems (RAW was a new world to me, before I only used it for ordering steaks:p) and camera usage skill.

My experience with DSLR is very limited, less than 2500 shots including bracket exposure shots. I come here to learn and hopefully to share. I have also been watching the DSLR section for a while, very informative and many friendly people there.

About the down load speed, I just aware that Adam suggested a max. 600 pixels on the long side. The pictures I posted above were for created for posting in my gallery and to be posted in the other forums. They are now hosting in photobucket (quite large, range from 800 to 1024 on the long side). I will check if I need to make adjustment in size, if I plan to posting more pictures here, I may need to prepare 2 versions.

As for the good guys and bad guys things, LOL. The compact cameras forum which we both used to visit a lot and still visiting was at WAR (please allow a little exaggeration:p) in the past several months. Those who could demonstrate good self-control of not using abrasive words and stay in context during arguments were considered to be good guys or gals. Gus is also one of the good guys too.

Many had stopped or making less visitings to that forum. Fortunately, the forum is recovering now, but the recent introduction of new cameras has slow down the recovery process (release of camera reviews can also do the same thing). More people posting pictures and discussions are more friendly now. Hopefully, the friendly community feel will return soon after contribution by those who love that community.

BR,

Danny

HK is a good place to take pictures and hiking too, but I think Gold Coast is a better place:p

I have been to Cairns and Gold Coast in 2003, short duration (Group Tourist). I wise I can visit these beautiful places again. Last time, I was using film, an Olympus C840L and a Sony Camcorder, now I have a Pentax:-)

Thank you for your kind words, Diane..

I have viewed your PPG pictures, Wow! 11 of them. I like the green tomato, who me, cabbage diamonds and fruit plate best.

The 10-20mm is a great lens, except at 10mm, a small tilt will capture my shoes:p

BR,

Danny

Thanks Reeftool, it is really nice to see the spring coming and all the green.

BR,

Danny

I felt like reincarnation when I saw your old alias in this new world:p I wish Kimberly and Mike can join us here too.

I will go take some 10-20mm cityscapes when I meet Nico this coming weekend.

I have to lot to learn from you and the others. I sincerely wish I can learn a lot here. Yes, I like the curves of that stone path too.

This Sunday I will visit a business friend's home in the remote country side (a Nikon D80 user), by then I will test use the newly brought Tarmon 18-250mm, wish I can get some pictures of an old temple and a lotus pond. BTW, I am almost complete the K100D Super user manual:p

Take care.

Thank you for your warm words JrPentax, I am flattered. I post in this forum to learn and to share with posters here.

I had been to Melbourne 4 times, the first time was more than 20+ years ago, it was a business trip. It was the first time I visited your beautiful city.

My last visit to Melbourne was in 2006. My hands were shaking (fortunately I was using a Panasonic P & S with Optical Image Stabilizer) becaue of the excitment when I saw those colourful rosellas.

Looking forward to see your Melbourne pictures.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your kind words. Before the K100D Super, I have been using several P & S, mainly Panasonic and a Fuji F30, so I am not a total newbie, but still struggling on how to shoot and process RAW files. I am using Photo Elements 4.0 to edit my JPEG pictures.

I visited your excellent gallery. you live in a paradise like place and you have captured their beauties in very artistic ways.

BTW, I just edited my profile. I am living in the New Territory of Hong Kong.

Again thank you for your encouragement.

Hi,

This is my first post in this forum, so please easy on me.:)

Thanks for viewing. I am also a newbie in DSLR usage, only 2200 shots so far. Without using bracket exposure control, it will be around 700 shots only. Still learning.

BR,

Danny
