Pentax k5II aufocus issues

Hello pentaxians,

I have k5II, had k-x long time ago. But when focusing with k5II i have feeling that autofocus not right. Had same feeling with k-x.

let me explain: i understand how autofocus and autofocus correction works, calibrated all my lenses, all needed little corrections. But when distance to object i want to focus at changes i need different focus corrections. Same trouble seen when using 2 different 35mm f2,4 , even had same problem with 50mm f1,8. for example im taking portrait at distance of 2 meters i need +3 correction. if subject moves 6 meters and i want take full body shot, i need +6 correction.
if shooting liveview its ok, camera autofocus is fine.

it is normal? had same problems with other pentax cameras ?

i know that, but if buying camera for work purpose, studio, events, portrait photography thats not good )

---------- Post added 12-04-18 at 04:08 AM ----------

i understand all that :) mainly i use camera for studio, events, portrait photography... have own studio and studio lighting, sturdy tripod... my lenses. 35mmf2.4 50mmf1.8, tamron 17-50 f2.8, samyang 85mm f1.4, some film era and russian lenses like jupiter 37a and helios 44m.
my current camera is lacks pixels and mainly incorrect autofocus, sometime wb issues. but mainly reason is autofocus

---------- Post added 12-04-18 at 04:09 AM ----------

agree) now im using tamron 17-50 f2.8, but that does not cover full frame. Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is the sollution.

---------- Post added 12-04-18 at 04:11 AM ----------

but main main question is : is SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL and SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 fully workable on full frame mode as lenses in nikon or canon systems designed for full frame?

Hello pentax users,

Now im taking pictures with k5II and its time to upgrade to full frame.
Would love to stay with pentax team but have some questions about it...

I have SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL and SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 . i read that these lenses cover full frame and usable.
but is these lenses fully compatible with full frame as for example SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4 ?

because when looking at official full frame lenses chart not so many usable lenses and those more expensive than canikon team.

but main main question is : is SMC Pentax-DA 35mm F2.4 AL and SMC Pentax-DA 50mm F1.8 fully workable on full frame mode as lenses in nikon or canon systems designed for full frame?

I must say this is very good iniciative !
Maby in time more people would do that, some lenses are cheap but they have sentimental value. especially if you know that lense you get is from person who wanted you to have it :)
I would really use this lense. I have DA 50mm f1.8, but would use this lense for film and macro purposes. When i became pentaxian i have a dream to try film photography using pentax me super or other vintage pentax camera.
Oh, and i think jwc77 should make condition that if person who gets the lense and gets bored, do not put it in the drawer or darkest corner :) but give it away someone else who needs it for free.

Hello,

Should i update pentax k-5II firmware, now it's ver. 100 ?
Some time ago i heard rumors that focus correction can change after firmware.
I heard other thought's that if camera operates normally i should stay with 1.00 firmware.

So maby someone can tell me to upgrade or not ? Ca something negative happen?

i took 10 photos one after another with jupiter 37a, this is 135mm f3.5 using manual focus with catch in focus. the weather was cloudy, rainy, not much light. jupiter 37a - a set on Flickr
what you think. will i be able to catch same focus with samyang ?

Thank you for opinion. I think about this too. But while i didn't used samyang i think this focusing is quite easy. Tomorrow will go outside and will try take some quick pictures with my Jupiter 37a and will upload here.
For autofocus i agree 100%, that there is better autofocus then no autofocus. But when lookink picture samples somehow samyang pictures look much nicer. More beautifull colors, better bokeh. but that pictures could be postprocessed.

70mm samples: SG200987.JPG | Flickr - Photo Sharing! , Bark | Flickr - Photo Sharing! , IMGP0497 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

samyang samples: Gema | Flickr - Photo Sharing! , Thinking about music | Flickr - Photo Sharing! , A girl | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

So there is dilema :) maby 70mm f2.4 bokeh is enough. but when comparing samyang and pentax samples, pentax photos is somehow boring. i don''t know.....

Now i have jupiter 37a, this is 135mm f3,5. it's quite easy to take photos at f3,5. using catch in focus is easy. but i think there is great difference at f3,5 and f1,4

i know that, but still it's confusing. looked samples many times. Samyang is better for portraits. Pentax looks for some portraits fine, but better for landscapes and smaller.
Next thing will be realize how easy is samyang to use at F1.4 :)

---------- Post added 03-18-14 at 11:57 AM ----------

not getting confused :)
was DA 70 autofocus accurate in all distances ?

was it easy to use Vivitar 85 f1.4 at F1.4 and focus manually ?
