Thanks Bob - I am just leaving for 10 days shooting in North West Scotland, so between the heavy rain and wind (it is Scotland!) I will see if I can work out what is happening. Will report back

645Z Timer Remote

Thanks Bob

Something is stopping this working and I don't think it is the remote. Just tried a different remote (Neewer one) and the same happens; the shutter is opened but not closed at the end of the timer. I am thinking something is stopping the close signal being processed, but cant think what it is (I am assuming a setting on the 645Z)

No answer is too basic (not the way I am feeling today :D)

Yes, it is all set and set pressed. As it works for 2 shots, but not for one - it seems to not be getting the "close" signal sent to the camera; hence the 2nd open is going in as a close.

645Z Timer Remote

Maybe I am missing the trick here :-)

I got a JJC TM-C and I set it for a Bulb exposure of 10 seconds with a number of shots of one; camera set to bulb with Mirror Up turned off. Press Start and it starts the exposure and then counts down. When it gets to zero nothing happens and the camera stays open. If I set it to 2 shots, press start - starts the exposure, counts down and closes the exposure when it fires the second shot and then counts down again to zero.

Now either I am missing how this is suppose to work, or have a setting set wrong somewhere.

I would have thought on one shot, it would open the shutter, count down and then close the shutter all itself once I did the initial press of start.

Appreciate all comments telling me what I am doing wrong :-)

Thanks

Thanks Tony; just ordered one. Expecting some long exposure work next week as I am doing some coastal shooting in North West Scotland and I am fed up with counting the seconds :-)

Thanks guys - a lot of these (in the UK) don't state 645Z, just Pentax and they show some with USB connection and some with a different connections; all very confusing :-)

Anyone know if this one works - Neewer LCD Timer Shutter Release Remote Control Cord RS-60E3

I am trying to find a wired remote for the 645Z that supports a timer - for long exposures, but am struggling to find one that supports the 645Z.

Can anyone point me at a remote that works with the 645Z ?

Thanks

645Z and Bracketing

Excellent - always avoided the press-once-bracket mode as I like to be certain there is no mirror-shake, but this sounds like this is the better opton

Thanks, Phil

I wonder if someone knows this (I am away from my camera for a few days so I can't try)....

When I set bracketing on the 645Z and select Mirror Up mode, I take my shots manually, click to lift mirror, wait a few seconds, click to take, and repeat through the sequence.

Now if I set the option to take all the brackets with one press of the shutter, what happens to the mirror up mode? It would be nice for it to lift the mirror - pause and then take the 3 shots and then drop the mirror - but I am thinking it doesn't do this.

Does it just fire 3 shots quickly, raising the mirror right before each shot - and therefore not allowing time for any mirror shake to settle?

Thanks

Not been on here for a while, but thought I would share some shots from my recent trip to the Loften Islands with my trusted 645Z...

A full set of images from this trip can be found at: Lofoten Islands - Phil Corley Photography

Mostly shot with the 28-45 Zoom, but a number of the panoramas were shot with the 55 or 75mm and stitched in Lightroom.

All comments welcome....

Yep did that a few months ago - moved to a 645D, sold all the Nikon gear and now have added a 645Z.

Why? Tried to explain the why on my blog. See -

For the why and then part 2 to see if it was a mistake or not :-)

Yes I am wondering if I have change something with this - interestingly I have only noticed it since I updated the firmware.

Just back from shooting this weekend, so when I clean and repack my gear I will run through the various options and see if I can spot the cause

No it's not that. The whole image seems to shimmer out of focus. It looks sharp and then not. Most strange.

Strange thing seems to be happening when playing an image back on the LCD on my Z, the image appears looking nice, and then it seems to shimmer slightly and then seems to blur. Images are ok, so wonder if I have changed something in the set up that is affecting the display

Anyone seen this or know what is going on?

Thanks

Does the same to me. And I have seen a few other reports of this problem. So don't think it is a hardware problem, but a software one. I have only tried Lightroom, so could be Lightroom miss reading the data or the data is being written wrong to the file. This is on DNG, PEF and JPEG

As I have found, once you are over the shock of the size and weight, you soon appreciate how well the lens handles and the size/weight become just one of those things. I am now at the stage of no problem carrying it (good backpack), "wow it's is big and heavy" (getting it out of the bag) and finally "this lens is brilliant; love it" (when shooting).

Some things just come in large packages :-)

Actually in use the size isn't a problem. I don't have large hands and using the lens on the camera is fine; it even handholds nicely. What is a problem is the size of the lens in the camera bag, but that is sorted by moving things around and changing the dividers. The feel of the lens is wonderful and it feels really solid and I love the the results, so putting up with the size is a small price to pay.

But no idea why it is as big as it is.
