1.01 only changed the company name from 'Pentax Corporation' to 'Pentax', which also confuse Picasa.

To all concerned with K20D/Hot Pixel Issue

No. I don't think Pentax could work out a new algorithm in couple of days by firmware. In my opinion, they just forgot to subtract dead/defective pixels in some scenarios (2s timer, remote 3s, etc.).

I just viewed this post on my desktop computer (with dell LCD) and couldn't see any hot pixels in my attached crop and I had to increase some degree of brightness to make them visible. Then I switched back to my old IBM T40 laptop, all those hot pixels are obvious:o. So using a tool such as dead pixel test could help to reach a fair conclusion.

I did a pixel mapping also before my test and got hundreds of visible pixels. I think you are lucky.

My Result:

1. ISO 200, 1/60, 2 sec mirror, M, lens cap on, High ISO Noise Reduction weak
13 pixels when threshold = 60
397 pixels when threshold = 20
628 pixels when threshold = 17
2064 pixels when threshold = 9 (still visible)

2. Same setting except 2 sec timer
0 pixels when threshold > 17
1 pixels when threshold = 17
108 pixels when threshold = 9

It seems that every K20D have this 2s-self timer bug. The problem is easy to reproduce. Not really related to liveview, iso and high iso noise reduction. I got about 2000 dead pixels (using a dead pixel test tool):(, pixel mapping doesn't help.
I think they are defective pixels instead of hot pixels because they are almost fixed. So I think it's just a ugly software bug and it should be easy to fix.

I found this issue is easy to reproduce. In fact, I rarely shoot in RAW (2 out of 2500 pics). But when I converted my only 2 dng (normal shoot without live view) files into tiff using DCRAW today, I did find out several hot pixels.
When I view the result in Picasa, I found Picasa doesn't remove hot pixels (of raw) either. So checking raw in Picasa seems to be the easiest way to verify this problem.

I think you will love SDM and build quality which come with DA* 50-135, so give 16-50 a chance.

New k20d shutter count?

My img number started with zero also. But my shutter count is img number plus 2xx. I think this count is reasonable (caused by by QC of factory?)

Thank you all for the comments. I should provide more evidence for this lens, but I cannot, since most of the test pics had been deleted immediately after checking on camera.
In fact, I've returned this lens and ordered a K20D... WOW! Maybe I'll come back someday, to DA*16-50 II, ;)

I've done this test dozens of times, with an even flat focus chart, on tripod, SR off, and got the same result...

Hello,
I found a problem when I did focus test with my new DA*16-50. It's clear that the right border is sharper than the left border especially at 50mm 2.8. Is it normal for DA*16-50? Is is a design defect or just a QC problem?
So what do you think, return or replace?

SN: 9011464
Made at: Dec, 2007

Thank you
