The first two shots seem to have a type of "bulls eye" aberration, concentric wavelike lines of light. Do you think it may be due to the K1 censor or the effect of long exposure?

Have you tried adjusting the brightness and contrast just a little bit? If you lower the brightness just a touch and raise the contrast a smidge, you can increase the perceived sharpness of the image.

Fred,
Are these snow flakes or does the ambient humidity in the air create the actual crystal?
Have you tried a 2x teleconverter instead of an extension tube between the camera and Bellows?

Tried my hand at Macro Photography using a reversed zoom lens set at 35mm on my K5 @f22 and 1/180th (flash sync speed) and an old Vivitar 91 manual flash unit. The camera was set on an old Bogen tripod and a micro focusing rail to fine tune the focus since the depth of field was paper thin (Live View function does come in handy at times).

A 55 mm lens set to 0.95 (for the sake argument let's say 1) f Stop and focused @10 feet has a depth of field of 4.56 inches (a calculated value). I would think that this would be very noticeable even in a low light situation. Most of us would want a bit more sharpness and stop down to f2, which is an f -Stop setting on most other 55 mm lens. So if f2 is used why buy a $850.00 lens that another less expensive lens can provide the same function, that is shoot at f2. If shutter speed is an issue, (example ISO 800 @ f1 = 1/1000 sec. noise notwithstanding) f2 yields 1/250 sec. should be sufficient.

Is 0.95 f-Stop practical? Working exposure settings being what they are, a combination of quick shutter speeds and smaller f-Stops, where would there be a need to shoot wide open (@ f0.95). Depth of field would be very shallow in low light levels to use the faster shutter speeds.

I wanted to shoot this astronomical gathering over the two days the Moon was going to be close to the two planets, Jupiter and Venus. However the remnants of tropical storm Bob spoiled the night of 6-19-15 so I had to settle for the 6-20-15 evening. Glad I did.

I don't think I'd split the picture in half with the horizon (meadow and sky), I'd place it in the the lower third or the upper third but not in the middle depending on what's more interesting to look at.

If ever there was a picture of a dog;s expression asking the question "Why are we sitting around doing nothing, let's go out and have some fun" it's the first shot.

This really is an interesting story. Has potential as a type of photographic comic strip. Hope you send the lens back to sigma with the photo-narrative, they might feel sorry for you enought to repair it for free. Or turn it into a commercial for their lenses.

Interesting star trails in the top picture. Never thought about how they would look taken from a location at the equator.
