I got really fond of "precision brushes" in aperture, but since its probably going to be phased out, I'm looking for alternatives.
one function I was really fond of was that you could non-destructively brush adjustments in/out as necessary.
(Well, I also enjoyed the library, but hey.)
What do you guys use?

Yep. So it seems that the camera has *every* mechanism for a decent mirror lock-up, they just don't implement it in firmware. Seems so silly!

It's just silly that when shooting in live-view mode, the mirror flaps up and down for no reason, especially in manual mode where it doesn't even need to measure light.

Why on earth did they decide not to feature a mirror lock up?
It works in video mode? Why not when shooting stills?

Some RAW converters interpret embedded WB information better than others.
If you take the same photo, open it in Lightroom 5 and Aperture 3 and just save it, it will look slightly different
I shoot RAW exclusively, and if I'm not too lazy I use custom WB, else I just don't bother and fixed it in Aperture.

@Adam: can you check the bit-rates and compare them to K-30?
Is focus-peaking available while record?

But I did read that Nikon beats it hands down regarding IQ?
I don't know, can't bring myself to like Canon. :)

Makes sense.
I hope Pentax will jump on the MILC bandwagon while its still fresh; and with a K-mount at that. That would give it a sweet edge compared to other platforms. And at video especially. Most of people I know use either 5Dmk2 or Lumix GH2, and they all use manual mode, and having access to plenty of cheap fast primes would be very appealing to video makers.
A more video oriented K-02 with proper advertising would in my opinion get Pentax a lot of new customers, especially because they know how to make compact and durable bodies.
More video oriented I mean that it would allow higher bit-rates for h.264 and ProRes 4:2:2. RAW video is nice and all, but in reality its not feasible on compact bodies with SD cards. Too expensive.
It would be a shame if K-mount disappears just because low-end DSLR market is going to vanish, i know it doesn't allow faster (f/1, f/0.95) primes, but most of those are unavailable to video makers anyway, since they usually jump on the dedicated camera system when the budget gets that high.

I don't really understand why Pentax has such a small market share. I, coming from no-photography background (although we do have a few pentax cameras in the extended family circles) did a comparison on dpreview and figured that K-30 is clearly superior against its competition. Especially high-iso! You can see that in comparison photos with your eyes.
If I wasn't getting a Pentax I'd probably get either a Nikon or a Sony. No idea where Canon gets its market share

Pentax people don't like Zeiss lenses? I've read such nice things about the f/1.4 50mm

Yeah, scene modes are pretty useless in my humble opinion. :-) It takes just as many and usually less rotations/clicks to setup basically the same thing in either of other modes, via INFO button.

I generally love this camera, but today I tried with Pentax A 50mm f1.7 and it made horrid noises like something is cutting lose in the body in the live-view. The only reason I used live view is because focus confirmation was just horrid with the 50mm. is that normal?!
I figured i still have 300mm from my vivitar set as focal point distance... but still, when i changed it back to 50mm it still made some odd noises i don't think I heard before.
Turning shake reduction off completely killed the noises off.
Why is LV using shake reduction anyway? Should I get my camera checked?

I've skimped through manual but it is very stingy on the "P Line, P Shift" functions of the green button.
Would anyone care to explain? I'm not sure what to make of it.
I don't much understand the "P" mode altogether, i mean, i understand it adjusts shutter and aperture, but I don't know what is "according to Program line" bit.
And firmware: My camera came loaded with the v1.00 firmware. I read somewhere on this forum that video got *worse* with firmware update, having more artefacts. Can anyone confirms? If thats the case I'm staying at v1.00.

Okay, i think I get it. I also read somewhere that some lenses - especially cheaper ones - have poor resolution and distortion on edges, which is what essentially APS-c discards on lenses designed for full-frame.
I think I got it now. I also understand how small sensors with high pixel density can have such outrages focal length, although physical size is probably still something to consider
thanks all for answers

Cool. clears some things up, i thought that the cropped lenses are being designated differently. That would be incredibly stupid though.
So focal length is the same but field of view is different. so aps-c really doesn't do anything good except that it crops the image.
Just noticed a lot of familiar places from your 500px page. :-)

Hi, I gathered as much and I hope its correct:
- the APS-C cameras have a crop factor around 1.5x.
- that means the effective focal length for old lenses is whatever is written on the lens x 1.5.
I'm still a tad confused though; technically 50mm prime is a 75mm prime. So if I want to shoot with a 50mm like the old film SLRs worked, I'd actually need to get a 35mm lens? But as far as my experience go larger field of view has more distortion, meaning 35mm x crop factor won't look the same as 50mm despite the fact that image should technically look the same size. Am I getting this right?
That would mean APS-c actually brings nothing good to the table at all, at least I can't see it. Seems like it does the same as a teleconverter would do (optically magnifies and crops). Except for telezooms, where you don't loose light and resolution to get greater detail.
Why didn't they bring the lens closer to the sensor so it wouldn't crop?
Are the lenses made for APS-C (that show a circle crop on a full frame) designated with crop factor being taken into account, meaning that 50mm for APS-c would technically not be the same as a normal 50mm?
Thanks
