Hi to all!
I'm proud owner of K-5 II for over two years and now I'm considering to buy second DSLR. Since I like K-5 II, I'm thinking to go with that model again, but now with K-70 on the market, I'm thinking are there (and what are) any advantages of K-70? On K-5 II I like sturdy design, top lcd, long battery life and, of course, image quality. Also, 2nd hand K-5 II is almost US$200-300 lower than a new K-70.
Or perhaps it's best to go with something that you already know. :cool:

I know this is the old thread, but I do have something to add.
First I have to say that I bought genuine Kenko CPL (Digital) filter, for 67mm threads, two years ago for US$ 25 on ebay and I hadn't any trouble with it. It was indeed, genuine Kenko. Later, I got two more lenses, each had 77mm filter thread. For SMC 300mm I could use a step-down ring (lens was designed for FF sensor) and it was ok, but for Samyang/Rokinon 16mm I couldn't, since it is designed for APS-C sensor and any step-down ring would be noticeable on the image.
So I decided to bought the same filter, but for 77mm threads. I found it for US$ 22 (Shanghai) and got it today.
First thing that was strange was the different (amateur) text writings, lack of holographic Kenko logo, sloppily Kenko logo and words on the filter, different row of words on the filter. It seems that the paper that was on this box was poorly scan from the original or something like that.
When I put filter in front of lcd screen and turn it until I could see nothing but the black screen. I thought that it seems it really is CPL filter. Then, I tested it on Samyang 16mm with and without filter and, later, compared the sharpness, but I couldn't see any difference. I thought that this was good business. Well, that thought was on until I decide to test it with 300mm SMC lens (without filter, with the old filter attached on the step-down ring and, last, with the new bought filter). Then I could see how terrible it is. Awful quality!
I contacted the seller to tell him that this is obviously a fake, but he's telling me that "our filter is made in Philipine by Tokina Ltd, authorized by the Hoya company." He offered me that I can send it back, but, as he said, "please send the economy shipping way, the shipping cost will cost less. we don't accept the unreasonable shipping cost."
Look it for yourself.
Also what I did notice but don't have any experience to compare it with, is that my old Kenko (genuine) filter will make LCD screen black only on the front side. If you turn it on the other side (180 degrees), LCD screen wont be black. On the other hand, this "fake" Kenko blacks the LCD screen from both sides. I really don't know if this is normal. :confused:

Well, after almost year of using I concluded this:
Good for: light hiking where you don't have large backpack (my is 65 L) and lots of other gear, when the paths towards mountain/hill spots are easy. Excellent on daily use. It has two little metal hooks, so (if and) when it pops out from its slot, it remains with one hook in camera. At least, that was in my case.
Not good for: (semi) extreme hiking, because of the knowledge from light hiking/daily use that there are times when it pops out and I didn't want to have risk of losing it. Problem is when you use it on difficult paths, camera is moving alot and you don't have energy to look every time if the eyecup still standing or not.
Also, before week or two, I noticed that some little part of rubber is cracked, but I repaired it with super glue on almost whole area from the outside and small one from inside, just to be sure. Now it's ok.
I would like if the producer could make this eyecup as it is BUT with hooking method just like on the eyecup that comes with K-5 II or K-3. That would be much firmer and without any chances to semi pop-out. On the other hand, perhaps producer wanted to be just like this because if it could be the way I want it to be, then only the rubber would pop out, while the metal construction, where rubber is attached, would stay on the camera. Just thinking.
Bottom line: I use it 90% of time, and when I go where I think I could have risk of losing it, I put genuine eyecup which came with K-5 II. It takes 10 seconds. I recommend it.

Hi. I just wanted to update this thread because finally I bought Samyang UMC 8mm f3.5 (new model with detachable hood) and I'm thrilled with it. I'm sending you an image of Milky Way which was taken in a little place in Adriatic sea. As you can see, there is some light pollution from street lights and from little town on the coast, but even with them, galaxy is really visible. And, more interesting is that settings were ISO1600, F4 with exposition of 58s.
Edit: sorry, I forgot to mention that I edited (just a little) this image in Photoshop.

I decide to start a new proper compare with camera mounted on tripod and wireless remote controler (F).
Order of testing was Helios 44M-7, 44-3, Super Takumar 55/1.8 and then SMC-A 50/1.7. First test was last night, when I tested these lenses in my room. Library is aproximately 2m from camera lens. Today, when I compared the images, I noticed that ST wasn't sharp enough from f4 and I was wondering what had happened last night. I couldn't find out the reasons, so I started a new session just with ST. Condition for all lenses were the same. Room with one source of light (from the back), camera mounted on tripod directed towards books and wireless remote control.
ISO (200) and exposition was the same for all same f numbers, except when there was f1.8 on ST (1/10s) and f1.7 on SMC-A (also 1/10s). White balance was on "Auto".
Today, I planed to take images towards infinity and that's what I have done. By the time I got my ST, I realize that he isn't calibrated properly (infinity, to be clear). Then I had to reassamble it (just a little bit) and calibrate him to proper infinity; it took me one hour. By the time I was done, the sun has started to shine, so that's the reason why the images from the Helios lenses are littlie bit different than those from ST and SMC-A; it was cloudy day when I shooted through them. Also, due to testings of infinity and finding out where exactly is infinity on these lenses, I found out (live and learn!) that infinity on my Helios lenses isn't where I thought it is. It's just a little bit further.
I was astonished when I realized that the "house-spot", that was representing the center of the image and infinity in the last session, which is about 200m away from me, wasn't infinity. Infinity-spot was 300 meter further, towards little house which was representing the corner sharpness last time. This time, center of the images are those trees and part of the house on their left. It's much further than the previous house.
For this session, ISO (80) and exposition was the same for all same f numbers, except when there was f1.8 on ST and f1.7 on SMC-A. White balance was on "Cloudy".
So, this time I hope I've done properly and if you think that I have done some errors, please forgive me, for I am only a human.
With all day in this, all I can say is: I'm through with this! :lol:

Yes, I had the same thought. It's really strange that 44M-7 has that sharpness (and that's good); even at full aparture it's the best among all of them (with full aperture on). But Helios is 58mm and SMC-A is 50mm so, I think, that 8mm of difference can trick you when you compare details which are placed at infinity.
Spring holes? You want to know does these Russian lenses covers whole metal where contact pins are? It's covered like in this picture. If this is what you had on your mind, then, no, I don't put anything to cover, because there's nothing to cover. :cool:
Or you meant about that two holes that are on the m42-k adapter? If thats so, then no, I don't cover it. Do I have to? Is there any link where this letting light problem is tested?

Hi,
I wanted to share this little "compare test" because I didn't find anything similar on the internet (44-3 vs 44M-7) and I always wanted to found out who is better among these two Helios lenses; also, I'm sure this could have been helpful (grammar ok?) in my past searches for good 58mm Helios lens. First one is considered as the better lens than 44-2 because it's multicoated and also has that famous swirly bokeh, and the second is the sharpest among all 58s Helios lenses (so says "the internet").
All I did was to set lenses to infinity (via liveview) and took images (handheld) on different apertures. I found out that 44-3 is close to 44M-7s sharpness and much sharper in the corners than 44M-7.
Later, I wanted to compare 44M-7 with other 50mm lenses. I did that with Super Takumar 55/1.8 and SMC-A 50/1.7. I was amazed when I saw that in the center 44M-7 is sharp as SMC-A 50/1.7! But you can't say that for the corners which are really soft until f4 (acceptable) and very good at f8.
Also, I noticed there is something whitesh in the center of the image taken with 44M-7 @ f11 and goes until f16. Does anyone have similar experiences?
I hope this will help someone. :)
EDIT: I also have Helios 44M, but it's inferior to all this four lenses in corners and center, so I'm selling it.

No, the Samyang repair service in Poland told them that they think it's nothing wrong with that lens and they were the ones who didn't want to repair it/change it. I was persistent in my plan to get the new lens (and so was the local store) because with this lens, there were problems with de-centring which is factory fault; I even contacted with some guy in Samyang Korea who told me that he'll help me, but after few emails, he disappeared.
The bottom line: at the end, the local store bought the new lens which they gave to me and they continued the "battle" with Samyang repair service in Poland.

It really is noisy on the first two images. Did you try to low ISO at 3200 with longer exposure, like 60 sec (rule of 500)?
Last two images are gorgeous. I really need to go somewhere without light pollution to employ my Samyang 16/2. :)

Yes. It really is a wonderful lens. I didn't adjust infinity because at mine copy, infinity is exactly where it must be - at the vertical line. Of course, I still have few mm of empty space after infinity, but since I have this visible mark for infinity, I didn't want to bother with adjusting.

Hi
I already have Samyang 16/2 (FOV about 90°) but, somehow, I like spacious landscape astrophotography. I'm aware that is fisheye, but it's diagonal with good stereographic projection an FOV 180° on APS-C. If anyone use it for astrophotography, can you tell me how does it behave at f5.6? I read that it's soft at f3.5?

Perhaps 100/2.8 macro would be better choice. You have macro and good telephoto lens. Sometimes 135 and/or 200 will not be enaugh because of the distance from the subject. It all depends.

I have SMC 135/2.5 and SMC 200/4. 200mm could be to far, since the only lens you have is 50mm.
If I had to choose, I'd go for 135mm.

Why not "Pentax Lux"?
On wikipedia, word "fiat" is explained as:
Since fiat lux would be literally translated as "let light be made" (fiat is from fieri, the passive form of the verb facere, "to make" or "to do").
So this would be something like, light made by Pentax. Cool. :-)
