K7 - still worth getting ?

Thanks to all contributors for your varied and interesting responses. Based on the majority of advice, I've decided not to get a K7 and let my daughter continue to play with my little Pentax X5 "bridge" camera which I bought prior to getting my K5. The X5 is easy to use and takes surprisingly good shots. I'll monitor her level of interest and possibly give her my K5 and upgrade to either the K5iiS or the K3 for myself. I see from posts on this forum that the jury is out on that comparison..i.e. K5iiS v K3 - I'm sure that will spark a whole lot more debate :) LOL

Thanks for all the advice - I see quite a few recommendations for the K-r but on looking at its review on the forum there appears to be a lot of AF issues with it. I'm leaning toward getting a K-x for her as that seems to get good reviews, be more user friendly than the K7 and would suite a learner - or am I mistaken ?

Good point there - weight & portability always something to bear in mind especially for a young girl.

To get back to my original post - there are a few used K7's on eBay for around the $300 mark. Thinking of getting one for her to play with and to also for me to use as a backup to my K5, but must agree with the comments that it is now very much superseded/out-dated. Of course I could give her my K5 and upgrade to a K3 - now there's a thought ! :) :)

Good point there Tom. Thirteen year old girls have other ideas of course !... LOL At this stage I'm prepared to do what it takes to encourage her to get involved with this hobby that we can both share.

Dear Forum users, I'm a beginner and enjoying my pre-loved K5. My daughter who is thirteen seems interested in this new found hobby too. I'm looking at a few K7's on eBay for her. Any opinions on the K7 welcomed and would its battery grip fit my K5 ? Thanks :)

Thanks TER-OR. So far I've had quite good results with my X5 using its macro setting. I've just acquired a pre-loved K5 and am awaiting delivery of a Sigma 28-80mm macro lens and I'll start shooting some more bugs ! LOL

Hi Joel - thanks, yes too true - I hate to think how many $$ per photo the "bug" equates to at present LOL :)

Dear fellow Pentaxians,

I've just joined the forum. I'm a beginner to digital photography and have a Pentax X5 which I enjoy using with some quite nice results so far... (some photos attached). I seem to have been "smitten by the bug" and have recently acquired a pre-loved K5 (being sent to me) and some lenses - Sigma 18-200mm zoom, Pentax 50mm F1.4 and Sigma 28 - 80mm zoom - the last one an eBay impulse buy but for next-to nothing. I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the K5 once I receive it. More photos to follow....LOL
:)
