What species of hawk do you guys/gals think this is?

Screenshot from 2024-01-25 16-57-36.png - Google Drive

Here's a link to the different hawks in West Virginia: 7 Species of Hawks In West Virginia (Pictures) - Wildlife Informer

I notice on my game camera photos that when the hawk arrives, he/she chases the crows from the food.

Addendum: I added 3 photos of the interaction between the one Hawk (locals here in West Virginia call it the "Chicken Hawk"), I added 3 photos of the interaction between the Crows and the one Hawk, again at:

Crows & a Hawk spar over Meat | Science-naturalists by Michael Piziak

I think the Hawk is a very beautiful bird, don't you guys/gals think so too? But when it comes to Hawks and Crows sparing over food, they each hold their own! In some pics the Hawk has meat he/she is flying away with and in some pics the Crows have meat too their flying away with! I don't think that either is afraid of the other!

Crows and a Hawk (some locals call them Chicken Hawks) spar for the meat I put in front of my game camera.

Interesting observation, but I'm sure it's a Coyote - a fox is smaller and everything about a fox is more petite. I've had several hunters verify they think it's a Coyote. Now the pic from the back of the animal walking away from the camera is a fox - notice how much smaller an animal it is.

Waves that move through the forest - I need help finding an article on it

Thanks for your reply, and it is so fascinating that I want to read about it and post about it on my naturalists page.

Something I didn't mention, is that in the article it suggested an experiment.

The experiment is to tell your friend where you're going to go and sit down in the forest, and have your friend randomly pick a time to slowly walk toward you in the forest. If the experiment is repeated enough times, the person sitting in the forest, waiting on his friend to sneak up on him, will experience these Biological "waves" in the forest. Perhaps the friend quietly sitting there will have Deer or other animals come towards, or by, him caused by his friend perhaps scaring animals towards him, etc.....

Also, this phenomena isn't based just on the movement of animals, but also on sounds they make. From birds to mammals, they often make sounds when disturbed in the wild - which echoes through the forest and affects how other species do things like make their own sounds, some times warning sounds, etc.... Besides dear grunting at a possible threat, many other animals make sounds, likewise, like birds such as Turkey making warning clucks when they see a human or other predator, etc.... Of course, the warning sounds that travel through the forest from animal to animal will affect their movement - most of them moving away from the threat via hearing various sounds....

Waves that move through the forest - I need help finding an article on it for my Science-naturalists page.

I've been googling and can't find an article on it - I read one about this probably 6 months ago.

What I'm referring to is something that is somewhat abstract. It's the "waves" or "energy" that moves through the forest. There's a name for it, but I can't remember the name - I want people here to help me find this again.

More info on this:

In the article, it talked about when any animal, including humans, move through the forest, then we cause "waves," like Biological waves to occur through the forest. For example, you may move through the woods and you see Black Bear. Often, I've found this to be true unless Cubs are involved, a Black Bear prefers to walk away (or even run away) from a human. This Bear running away from you helps to extend these Biological waves through the forest. The Bear will run through the forest and other animals will see a Bear running toward them and they then run away from the site of the Bear. Then those animals that run away from the Bear will cause other animals to react and move this way or that way. This continues and continues - it's like a Biological wave moving through the forest.

In the article, it spoke of how American Indians, I believe it spoke of one Navajo Indian having the ability to track a white many many miles away by observing the "waves' that the white man sent through the forest.

If anyone can help me with the name of this concept or even a link on the internet, I would much appreciate it.

My Science-naturalists link is in my signature. You may find some of my posts interesting - you don't have to join to post, you can post as a guest. My past two articles were titled 'Quietest place on earth' causes hallucinations' and the one before it "Polygraph/Lie Detector tests are completely useless"

Here's some more pics I gathered on the SD card today. PM is AM and AM is PM on the camera - I'm trying to fix the dates, time, and year (without a manual, smiles).

One of the 2 cat looks like a ferrel house cat, but perhaps the other one isn't - ? One pic looks like a rabbit.

Thanks all for your replies.
Here's another one - likely a Racoon this time - ?
If not a Raccoon, perhaps a Bobcat.
Is it possible this is the same creature seen in my original post?

The game camera just doesn't capture motion that well, does it - ?

My father thinks it is a fox or perhaps a coyote. But your guess is as good as his or anybodies! After looking at Opossums legs online, I don't think it's an Opossum.

Are you asking about the flash? I have the owners manual to the camera here at the house somewhere, I'll try to research the model and maybe, a big maybe, get an answer to that.

Wobbling Stars or not? Calling Astro-photographers for their input

Everyone has this jitter in their eyes is a very good explanation of what I observed because if the stars had been wobbling like that, in fact the Earth would have been what was actually wobbling like that very fast, which would shake us all to death!

The Pentax Gnome is about to be retired if someone doesn't take him in. I have him stashed in the basement in a cardboard box. Yes womble, I have him now.

He has been photographed in the U.S. and Europe and I now have him in the U.S.. and willing to ship him to anyone in the U.S. to continue his journey(s).

If no one takes him, I'll just retire him and consider his missions to be a success.,

Wobbling Stars or not? Calling Astro-photographers for their input
Posted By Michael Piziak

I'd like to get some input from you astro-photographers on a thread on my page.

I won't link to my page, as it's frowned upon. But this is the first post:

One of my most famous observations is of Stars that wobble and travel straight across the sky at high speed(s) on a completely clear night if you hold your head against something so that it is very very still.

Of course, the stars don't move across the sky or wobble. Much like the sun, that is a Star, they remain relatively still as compared to Earth's rotation and revolution.

So what causes Stars to appear to wobble? Well, the Earth wobbles in a very tight circle at the magnetic North and South pole(s). The Earth also rotates from West to East during a day(s). So, the earth wobbling and rotating causes the Stars to appear to wobble and move very fast.

I had an epiphany, if that is the right word, that I could and would eventually understand everything about the known and observable Universe from that day onward. I had this epiphany because I figured it all out before I Googled it and I was right!

It's overwhelmingly accepted in the Astronomy community that Star's twinkle because of our Atmosphere; however, I believe that the Stars appearing to wobble also contributes to the Stars appearance of twinkling - I'll start a poll on that.

In having said all that, I only had 1 Astronomy course in college, so I am certainly not above being corrected on any of this. If someone can cite a site that the Earth doesn't wobble enough on its axis as it rotates every 24 hours to cause Star's to appear to wobble inside small circles, then I would certainly not be opposed to evidence being brought forward.

Michael Piziak, B.S., M.A.

So, do stars wobble or not? I've been mostly convinced by peeps that replied on my board that perhaps something is going on with a medication I'm taking or my eyes/body are actually doing something to cause me seeing the wobble affect.

What paint do I use for indented plastic letters and logo

If one wanted to paint in the name and logo of a brand that is already indented on the back of a keyboard - it's a yamaha but i want yamaha to stand out.

would you guys just dump any ole white paint in the "crevesces" and whipe excess off the top with paper towels.

or is it recommended to like use primer or some kind of special paint for plastics - ?

Michael

p.s. see image below, you can barely tell it's Yamaha.

p.s.s. i actually remember watching a pentax factory where they squired paint down in similar crevesces for F number and such but smaller scale

p.s.s I buy a lot of yamaha stuff from motorcycles to drums - i like the brand

Thanks to the moderators for the multiple and continued warnings instead of banning me.

I have mental problems with boundaries. I dunno, I was also an only child and felt entitled for 12 years, and I've always had problems with authority figures that weren't fair.

Again, thanks for not banning me.

This one will probably be warned too since it contains my personal information - just trying to keep it real!
