Step 1: Lower your expectations. Unless the stage is very well lit, you'll almost certainly be forced to use a high ISO that is grainy, a slow shutter speed that has some motion blur, a wide aperture that is hard to focus and doesn't get everything in focus, and a white balance that still has some weird coloration.

Step 2: Bring multiple lenses. Depending on where you are relative to the stage and what shots you want to take, you may find that anything from an ultra wide-angle to a modest telephoto has some use. Why leave the lens you need at home?

Step 3: Exposure: If the stage lighting is fairly constant, you can use manual exposure, the green button, chimp a few shots to see how things look and then don't touch the exposure settings. If the lighting changes, spot metering a lit face or clothing is often better than center-weighted or matrix for stage scenes that are mostly very dark with a few lit items. Bracketing can help.

Step 4: White balance: Unless you muck about with a custom white balance (which requires that you take a gray card on stage and then the lighting doesn't change), AWB is about as good as it gets. If you shoot RAW or RAW+ so you can always try correct the white balance later. Often however, it's really impossible to get a good white balance because the light color is different on different parts of the stage.

Step 5; Have fun! Take lots of shots and don't stress over the keeper rate or the fact that these are unlikely to be studio-crisp images.

Do you think we can get Sigma to do a K mount version?

Saw a post on Facebook where someone mentioned the Sigma 200-500 f2.8. I had never heard of it. So as usual I googled it and found this. I would think that combined with the K1 II’s low light performance we should be able to capture the Big Bang.:)

This was shot at Cook's Meadow in Yosemite National Park.... 8:30 in the morning with the fog still hovering over the meadow... It was planted there in the early 19th century by settlers...
