does anybody feel like they get sharper results manual focus vs AF? im wondering if maybe i should get the lens aligned as I've had stunning results with manual focus but about 70% of AF shots are soft..

some more eagles, the salmon run has arrived and the eagles are feasting on the spawned salmon. its easy pickings for them as the river water levels are lowering.

i nominate this photo. it tells a story and describes a situation.. like a national geographic photo. great colors and the composition gives a good sense of size and depth.

Thanks every one, I'm glad you all like it. I took this picture on a sunny day in winter at Deas Island just below Vancouver BC..after i just got my new lens a pentax 300mm DA*. I know the spot had a lot of eagles as i was there before and was hoping to get lucky... and I did with this one, he was on a low branch about 16-20 feet away from me... i think they are used to people there as theres always people walking dogs and hiking etc
You are right this was the glance he first gave me to check me out.. then sat there for quite a while.. i got a lot of good pictures that day but i feel this is such a nice one as he's really looking at me and acknowledging my presence. i find eagles very captivating and their eyes especially. that the weather was clear and sunny really helped to register all the detail.. the lens is a f4.5 so it needs a bit of light to perform at its best, i have it on a K-30 body and i absolutely love it.

Hi there,
Thanks for reading. I am wondering what gives a better result for wildlife photography a better quality 300mm lens or a mid level / entry level 500mm like for instance the sigma 150-500
I don't mind cropping but I find on my current 200mm wr pentax lens I am just out of range for clear detail most of the time when it comes to wildlife
Thanks for any input!
