Sending it in to be serviced under the warranty. Finally talked to someone who has seen this before. Getting it fixed, but will miss my camera immensely. Have to ship it to AZ. Maybe this thread will be helpful to someone who runs into this .

I have used my imagination. I can't imagine how dust would accumulate under the LCD. I have seen it posted here and on other forums but with very little actual information given. So, I know it is not that unusual of a problem and that I am not alone. I also know that nobody as of yet can tell my why or how it is happening and what to do about it. I don't operate the camera in any manner that is unusual. I own one lens so rarely if never take the lens off the body. I did look inside the body however to investigate and there was no dust inside. I have not owned it for very long. My images have no dust on them, they are nice. if dust is getting in there, and continues to get in there, might there be a bigger problem or flaw? That is my main concern. Also, for that amount of money spent, there should not be a problem like this, or any problems. It is brand new. It was not a "smoking hot deal," although it was a good deal. The seller has 5 star rating. I hope they can help me. If anyone else has experienced this, I would like to hear about it.

Thank you. I have contacted the seller. I hope to hear back soon.

I have had my k-50 for a few weeks and I have the same problem. Dust under my LCD and it is getting worse with use. I use the 18-135 WR lens. I am waiting to hear back from the seller. But as of yet, I don't know why it is happening. The camera is new. I am unhappy. You are not alone. This seems to be a common issue.

I know other people have posted this problem and have read some comments. It still is not clear to me, what the cause and solution is for this problem. I contacted the seller today and am waiting to hear back about my options. I ordered my camera via Amazon from a seller in Canada and so cannot easily access the seller. It took a couple weeks to have it shipped in the first place. So, any ideas or information or experiences that others have had with this problem, are welcome. I want to resolve it and I also want to know why it is happening. I am beginning to see that it is rather a common issue with More than one Pentax camera model. I wonder if other companies deal with this as well? Is it due to the camera "breathing"? Or is it a faulty seal? My camera and lens are WR. Can I avoid this problem or fix it myself? Lots of questions. Dismayed by the problem. Looking for all the information and solutions available.

Thank you!!

Macro Lens and DSLR Camera Newbie

If only the camera were in my hands! 4 more days and it should be. Provided the snow storms allow. I joined the macro group here, and have been checking out other's photos. Truly exciting. Macro really does open up a whole new world of perspective. I will share some photos there when I have a collection and look forward to feedback. This site is really helpful. When I researched my Pentax, I talked to some camera experts and was discouraged from buying a Pentax. He said the lenses were hard to find and that they don't make enough for Pentax. But it seems they are out there if one digs around. I like the approach of slow hunting around at garage sales and thrift shops. That is actually my favorite way of finding items of any kind. It is almost as if they find you. Like the universe says, here, have this lens, you are ready.:) Finding gems and being taken by surprise is half the fun, right? I bought the Pentax even after being discouraged because I just knew it was the right camera for me. It is fun to chat with other people who feel the same way about the camera I just spent a bundle on and waited years to afford.

Have a good one and thanks again for taking the time to respond with great advice.

Thank you for that wonderful comment arkav. You really calmed me down. I was getting a bit overwhelmed. I am going to take your advice, enjoy my new camera when it arrives, and let it all unfold in due time. Meanwhile, I have a little book on macro to read that might help me along. I will give the online lens research a rest for now and breathe.

Cheers to you too!

Wow! So much information and it takes me in many directions, which is great and also overwhelming. I do understand that I have to delve into taking more pictures with my new camera, before I will truly understand the intricacies of macro and all that it entails. I can play around with my regular lens and see what it can and can't do. Maybe that will guide me more specifically.

However, I do know what I like when I see other people's work. I really like shooting outdoors in nature. My garden is a favorite place for me, and so many times I have wanted to zoom into and capture the detail of a flower, an insect, or a bird, and did not have a camera, let alone a lens, that would allow me to even come close. Right now, it is a case of knowing more what I want, than how to get it.

Finding a compatible lens - not easy for me. Searching online is confusing! Knowing that I like nature and outdoors and live subjects, I have gleaned from the comments, that I want a longer lens so I can take the shot further away from my subject, as not to scare it away. Also, I have learned that MF is better for macro work. That makes perfect sense, as I want to be in control of where my focus lands and like to be very precise about this. (That is, while taking macro wanna-be shots with a sub par camera! Ha! But, I try, oh I try.)

When my new camera arrives, I will have much to play with in the way of attempting macro shots. and get closer than I ever have. Exciting! But, because I like macro so much, and really want to explore it, I want a lens or device that can guide me to new places. Does that sound naive? Probably.

So, if anyone has a very specific recommendation of what that lens might be, or how to narrow my search down, please let me know. Because I have been searching all day and feel I am going down the rabbit hole of camera lens online retail. Whew! I have to go back and reread some of the comments to make sure I did not miss a lens suggestion.

Also, I think I need to read a book on how to take macro.

So:
Affordable. Dare I say cheap? But good.
Longer lens for not scaring tiny critters away.
Manual Focus. Legacy Lens?
Compatible with k-50

I am going to dive back in now, knowing what I know thanks to your comments and tips, but if anyone wants to throw an example or a link to a lens that might fit my needs, please share.

I appreciate the guidance!

Just purchased a K-50 with the DA 18-135mm WR f3.5-5.6 Lens. Have not gotten it in my hands yet. Very excited to use it and buy a macro lens when I have the money.
Doing research and have narrowed it down to two lenses based on affordability and ratings. The Tamron SP AF 90mm f/2.8 and the SMC Pentax -D FA 50mm f 2.8. (The Pentax 100mm looks great but is more expensive. If I could get it cheaper used, I would reconsider.)

Between the Tamron 90mm and the Pentax 50mm, what is the best bang for my limited buck? I want the lens that is the best for macro, but don't mind if it has some versatility as well. Based on reviews I am leaning towards the Tamron at this time. Wondering where to get a good deal on one of these, new or used.

On a side note: Are extension tubes a smart, functional, economical tool to get me started, or a waste of time?

Thank you!

kerrowdown,

Thank you for your straightforward and clear advice. I have been to Scotland twice BTW. One of the most beautiful places in the world. Would love to wander around those hills with a k-3. I will check out your gallery.

I think I will go with the k-50. Thank you for all the great advice. I am glad to hear that several of you are happy with the kit lenses as that is how I will most likely begin. I no longer have my old cameras and lenses. I recently took them to National Camera Exchange to see if they would work with dSLR and was told no. They recycled them.

So, I am starting from scratch. For the past several years I have used a Kodak Easy Share that I got as a Christmas present and since I had no money to upgrade it has been my only digital camera ever since. Trying to make that little thing do what it can't has really gotten frustrating. Getting a DSLR is a dream come true for me and long overdo. I had grown up practicing on my garage sale film cameras and lenses but it became unfeasible. Who can afford to buy and develop film anymore? Might as well put that money into a DSLR, right? So, they sat in storage while I monkeyed around with the Kodak until I had saved the money for a real camera. I am sure many of you can relate. I am thrilled that decent a decent dslr is finally more affordable. Thanks Pentax!

I have been researching what kind of camera I would buy for years and watched as the market and technology shifted and changed. Now that I am ready to own one, I was overwhelmed by all the options. But when I started looking at the Pentax lines, I fell in love. I am very attracted to the k-50 and feel like it will be a great choice for me to learn on and allow me to expand myself creatively. I look forward to posting some shots in February, and getting more feed back on lenses as I go along. This is a great resource. Thanks so much for the advice all of you and easing my mind regarding the kit lenses to get started. Thanks frogoutofwater for giving me some great info on lenses that suit macro and low light as well as general use lenses.

Have read the reviews and just when I think I know what to do, I read another forum and review and confuse myself. The k-3 might be too much camera for me. I am more of a beginner in that I have never owned a DSLR but I have been taking pictures all my life and am aspiring to be better. I don't want to limit myself at the same time I don't want to overwhelm myself with a high end camera that I can't utilize fully. My budget it tight. I can't buy all the lenses at this time, that would allow the k-3 to be used to it's maximum potential. So, that leaves me with the k-50. But, then I read about the k-30. It rates higher for performance and seems to be the darling of the Pentax reviews. Help please? K-50 or K-30? In a quandary. Would love guidance from an experienced Pentaxian. Thank you.

The only thing that I can't quite settle in my mind is this question. Is it better to get the mid range body, k-50 and have more money for prime lenses that suit my specific needs, or get the high end body, k-3 and have less money to invest in lenses? Will the k-50 perform well enough with the right lenses? Or would I be limiting myself by not getting the higher end body?

Thank you for responding. I am thinking the k-3 will be better for me in the long run, as it will allow me more room to grow. I think you are right in that I should buy lenses suited to my purposes. I will check that link out Adam. Thank you for the great tip. And SpecialK, I was leaning towards getting the 18-55 to get started, althought, the k-3 is offered most commonly with the 18-135. I was wondering if there was a reason for that. But essentially a 50 prime is the lens you both suggest for my style of photography, so I will look into getting that lens either alone or in addition to the 18-55. Your input has really helped me. I can hardly wait to lay my hands on a new camera.

Planning on a Pentax

Hi. I am planning to purchase a Pentax and am now in the research stage of this process. I am not new to photography, in that I have owned many cameras, pre-digital era, with a variety of lenses, and have developed pictures in dark rooms, and hung them to dry. Ahh the olden days... but that was long ago and things have changed, and I have been ready to embrace the digital age for years now. Only, my pocket book kept me in the dark ages. I have never owned a DSLR. I have used a point and shoot. But, we all know that is like driving a scooter in loo of a Cadillac. The point is, I am ready to purchase a DSLR and although I am a technical novice, I am not new to the practice of taking pictures. My creativity has been hampered by lack of proper tools, but now I am ready to invest in a Pentax DSLR.

I am trying to decide between the k-3 and the k-50. Leaning towards the k-3.

What I don't know much about is lenses.

Both camera kits offer the 18-135mm, 18-55mm and/or 50-200mm lenses in their bundles.

Any advice? I like nature photography, landscape, low and natural light, and macro. I have a special love of macro.

Thank you, nice to meet you, and I look forward to some input.
