I'm planning to keep the K-3 as long as possible (3 years, only less than 5000 clicks)
I will look for a replacement camera when 1) My K-50 dies + 2) A new Pentax camera (+ lens) with a big leap in AF system.
Even then, I bet the K-3 is still a great camera.

I go with Pentax for the price and compactness.
I mainly shoot studio portrait and some landscape with a K-3 + DA* 50-135 combo.
Just a fun comparison (I don't intent to insult any mirrorless shooter).
K-3 body: weight: 800 g, price: $800 (the price I actually bought)
DA* 5-135 : weight: 765 g, price: $1046 (current at B&H, I believe the market price is around $800)
Combo: weight: 1565 g, price: $1846
Equivalent mirrorless system: Fujifilm X-T2 + Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Lens
Fujifilm X-T2 body: weight: 507 g, price: $1599
Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8: weight: 995 g, price: $1599
Combo: weight: 1502 g, price: $ 3198
Fujifilm Camera+Lens may have superior AF system, but I found the Pentax AF is sufficient. I believe the low light focus capability is just as good as Pentax (correct me if I'm wrong)
The X-T2 sensor size is 23.6 x 15.6 mm, the K-3 sensor size is 23.5 x 15.6 mm. I believe the image quality is pretty much equal.
The DA* 50-135 can be neck-to-neck with any similar lens in term of sharpness.
To me, I just cannot justify to pay $1352 more for a 63 g less system.

The range 50-135 mm as of DA* 50-135mm? It covers the equivalent 70-200mm full frame.

The hot shoe replacement part arrived today. It was very well packed. It looks exactly like the original even though didn't come with the box. Took me less than 3 mins to install. Now my flash is as good as new.

Hi misterkittyboy,
Changes are the ISO setting of your K 50 is still in auto ISO mode. Even though you turn the dial to M, the camera is still operating in TAv mode.
To operate the camera in full manual mode:
1) Switch the camera to M,
2) If the camera is still showing TAv, go to ISO setting and switch to manual ISO, the camera will operate in Manual.
3) When you switch the camera to other auto ISO modes such as Av or TAv or Tv, the ISO will set to auto ISO automatically.
4) when you switch back to M, assuming you already did step #2, the camera will set to manual ISO.
Hope it helps,
- Huy

Hi fellow pentaxians,
I had a chance to take some head shots recently. The key light was a flash with a 24x24" softbox about 5ft away from the subject.
If it's not for the bright areas on the face, this picture would be perfect. https://www.flickr.com/photos/110066848@N08/25145752976/
Please give me some tips to reduce (and better, eliminate) them.
Thanks in advance.

Congratulations, Ricoh folks for this fantastic FF camera and lenses. I know most of the money I pay for the camera goes to the camera, not to the bragging right. Having said, I must admit that I'm a very proud Pentaxian, and I don't shoot video with my Pentax cameras.

I put a B+W 49mm UV filter on it since day 1. Since it's a macro lens, I often find myself crouching on the ground for taking the pictures and the front element is very close to the subject for a macro shoot. I think a good UV filter would do a good job to keep the front element clean
Several tips for using this lens in macro shoot:
- Don't use auto focus. Switch to manual focus,
- Frame you subject and compose
- Move your camera (and yourself) back and forth to focus until the point you want to focus in focus. It's pretty easy to use your eye ball sensor because the DOF is very thin at 100 f 2.8 at a very close distance.
- Squee the shutter release button.
- Practice, practice...

My comment may be off the topic. However, I often feel like I'm happy with the pictures I take with my Pentax cameras as much as my friends happy with their cameras.

I use Optech sling strap and a arca QR plate with strap loop. I attach one loop to the QR plate and the other to the camera body.

A 50 mm lens on a crop sensor camera is equivalent to a 75 mm on a full frame camera (crop factor 1.5). It's well within the range your instructor required.

Hi Pentaxians:
I'm absolutely new with photography. To be exact, the K 50 is the first camera I've ever owned (I did not even own a point and shoot camera). I spoiled myself a little bit when I bought it as a graduation gift to myself.
My first low light photo shoot with K 50 + Pentax SMC 50mm f/1.8 was at a classic cars showroom. I was not so confident therefore I did not take many pictures because it was pretty dark. However, the result made me felt guilty because I did not trust my K 50 and the 50mm f/1.8 in low light performance.
Please check out some of my pictures to see what I mean. I give full credit for the camera and the lens for the image quality. These picture were straight out of the camera. I only scaled them down to post them to my flickr account. IMGP0348 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
