I don't understand what the other person means about "quality" either. This photo is of superior quality in every way.

Being in the right place at the right time takes loads of patience. I'm glad the snake waited for you to do your set-up. How great is it that this was your first day with your new camera. As others have said, perfect detail and clarity and composition and exposure and, and and... Nominated!

Beautiful exposure keeping rich tones yet drawing out detail. Nominated because you know what you're doing and for catching such a moment that leaves me with a memory of the scene.

I like how the subject is faced out of the photo as this makes hinm seem focused inward where he draws on the music. The rest of the frame filled with shafts of light adds greatly to the impact. Nominated.

I can see why you love it, all those heads and ears peeking over the hill and the one full size on the rim. You did a great job framing them with the trees positiond just right.

I already left Arizona Dave praise for this photo but didn't know at the time how to nominate it. This is my NOMINATION. Beautiful work that requires knowledge of light and how to capture it in all its subtle nuances. This is a work of art.

I nominate this photo. This kind of capture takes skill, as well as developing the film in a way to keep shadow detail and not blow the highlights. There is wonderful detail here that leads the eye from 12 legs churning up dirt clods, to the man's butt hanging in air, his arm locked around the steer's horns, and his hand pointing in to the perfectly caught expression on his face. The two horses with matching blazes frame the central action, the background is blurred enough to not distract but clear enough to give the setting. All in all, absolute perfection.

When a thumbnail catches my eye I get excited to see if it will be just as stunning large. This did not disappoint. NICE subtle post-processing, and I agree with Stan Friedman's observations.

Practising intentional blur. Shot at f5.6 and .6 seconds from moving car through windshield chasing a building storm along the back road. I parked and took some sharp shots of this storm but prefer how this one seems to capture the feeling I had at the time. I could sense a big dump coming any minute and that was followed by some pretty big hail. I do love stormy weather.

If you loved shooting with a film camera and want to replicate that experience on your new digital body, I suggest you try out some old pentax manual primes. There are several types, K, A and M...I chose to try the M series because they are the most compact and are so reasonably priced, so I could afford to play with several to find my favorite focal lengths on my K7. I find it so nice to have manual focus on the lens and stop down metering using the green button, the whole process takes me back to my film days. The A series can be used without having to meter. Here's a link to a good explanation of how to use these old manual lenses on a DSLR: http://www.robertsdonovan.com/?p=1181. And the forums here give reviews on all these old lenses, which are very helpful in deciding on what to try. ---------- Post added 04-28-14 at 06:30 PM ----------
Sorry Kozlok, I accidentally posted my reply to "film age dinosaur" under your note, don't know how to correct this...but guess he can read it okay here.
