Here's an old test of the lens from the FNAC, a semi serious chain of stores that publishes it's own tests of products, you should be able to gleen the results even if you cant understand French. They rate the lens!

Here is the view of the base of the K10 with it's base plate removed!

I give the credit to the author and publisher of this description and photo (not known to me), I have served only to pass on this information!

P.S. Test photos can be taken to establish good focus without recourse to refitting the bottom plate each time, once the focus point is correct replace the bottom plate.

There it is for those who want to try it!

Nearly all uncoated filters will produce flare in certain strong light conditions, even good coated filters will have some effect even if it's very small!

Here's a link to Lenstips tests on a selection of well known UV filter brands complete with images!

If you look there is also a further test supplement as well as Polarizer tests!

It's taken a lot of time for Fuji/Olympus/Sony/ Panasonic/Samsung to have perfected their Contrast detect systems based on a sensor that has phase detect pixels to tell the AF system which way the focus point has to go ( ie. object in front or behind the focus point so there's no hunting) This means Pentax first have to use a phase detect sensor and then design an AF around it, the technology is cutting edge and complicated, it takes time and a lot of expensive research, not forgetting the know-how, they are already behind in the game by three or four years and frankly I don't think they are in a position to achieve it without great financial aid from Ricoh. The electronic viewfinder is the same story, Samsung have just taken the lead with their NX1, this is a company with enormous financial and technical resources, they have put all their wherewithal and investment into the design of the camera and will continue to do so.
A mirror-less camera needs both an electronic viewfinder and phase detect/contest detect AF to have the remotest chance of being profitable/successful in these competitive times. If ever that was achieved the next problem would be the registration distance of lenses, a new distance would have to be chosen to keep the bodies compact, which means yet another range of lenses. Take all this into account along with Ricoh insisting that Pentax stand on their own financial two feet and be profitable and one can clearly see what Pentax are up against. They know where they are in the mirror-less race and that's why they stick to the Q series, it's small, relatively inexpensive and at the moment they have not too great a competition!

Sigma 70-200, which need a re-chip to work

Older HSM Sigma lenses did not have firmware for LV CDAF because at that time cameras didn't have it, Sigma will update the existing chip with the newer firmware for free, you pay just the postage.

Infinity focus on various lenses

I have set infinity focus on live view and then with a wooden cocktail stick and a bit of white paint marked the barrel with the paint, it leaves just a small dot and when out star shooting there's no doubt that the focus is infinity correct, unfortunately this can't be done with a lens where the focus scale is behind a window.

External stereo microphone for sound recording

The camera store recommends a microphone with a built in preamp to reduce hiss! Personally I'm looking for something that's not so expensive, that Rode is well over $200. I'm going to googe it!

At the price with a built in pre-amp it looks good!

Where is Ricoh Pentax going?

Sony have enormous financial clout as well as cutting edge technology, but it's real asset is a "desire" to improve and push the envelope. it's taken a while for the technologies to come together, so the route has been changing from transparent mirrors to different lens mounts and formats, which has left us all reeling as a plethora of models came out. Samsung are heading down the same route, high money, high tech, high desire, huge technological leaps. Fuji and Olympus are pushing hard on their front.
Ah Pentax, dear Pentax, well it's more traditional here, small desire, small money and small incremental improvements, but a huge range of colours!
