Lots of bright sky behind your subject with little forward lighting makes for a big difference in dynamic range. You could have captured that dynamic range a bit easier using the K-3's HDR functions, or using the pop-up flash for a touch of fill. Still, I think this is a pretty darn good shot given the lighting conditions!

Nice shot. Watching a good dog work a field looking for pheasants is about as good as it gets. And eating the pheasants is not bad either.

When there are discussions regarding wolves and moose I always think of the Isle Royale study It has gone on for fifty years About The Project: Overview | The Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale It goes to show how little we know how it all works but unfortunately humans always seem to have a bearing in the outcome of things - if the wolves are really a problem in your area you could always feed them a dog with the pavro virus - that seems to work.
I'm starting to get fidgety - I sent my 500 in to Gentec for some minor repairs - they said it should take less than a week and that was more than a month ago - they say I'm in the "queue".....

Nice! Well lit, sharp, and it definitely tells a story. No need to shoot by the water. I'm sure you could get some nice portraits outside with the snow and the trees. The effects of winter can add a lot of atmosphere to an image. Or maybe take an image of someone next to a cozy fireplace. There are always options.

Met up with a lovely Ukrainian model this morning and even though she was almost an hour late we still got some nice shots and I hope to work with her again sometime.

I got a picture of a fox today too...
K-3 and DA*60-250
ISO 400, ƒ5.6, AV
After many attempts to find this fox, and many miles driven, I finally got some fox images. |

OK after months of seeing the above LeRolls shots and trying to get to that level of artistry I think I have come close with a shot. I'm in Minnesota so it won't be a gal by the water this time of year and never as good as his. But I want to get to the level of epic good taste, clean lines and elegant beauty to tell stories the way he does. And for a simple 2 flash shot in front of the white board in our church conference room I'm really proud of this one! Tony and Kelsey by Jim Stainer, on Flickr

Thank you for your positive responses to the Roadside Hawk shot. Most of pics I post are recent but but that one was taken in Belize a few years ago.
These Ross's Geese flew in from the north and circled in front of us while we were on a walk today - you can see the Toronto skyline in behind. A very rare bird in southern Ontario, though a few have shown up just recently. K3 with DA*300mm + Pentax 1.4x TC |

Quoting from an email:
The adapter is different for the new flash.
At this time we do not make a custom adapter for the new 540FGZ II but we do
have an existing adapter that can work.
To use the existing adapter you will need to apply the Velcro that we
provide inside of the adapter on one side to achieve a proper fit.
Other customers have used the modified adapter and have informed us that it
fits well.
We offer a satisfaction guarantee with all of our products so if you like
you can order the adapter and if not satisfied for any reason you may return
if for a full product refund.
The adapter to order would be for the Metz 50AF.
It works well and stays on.

This is the shrimp boat docks in Galveston. After the boats are unloaded, the birds take everything left behind. |
