Yes, I already have too many bodies lying around the place ... if you know what I mean. My wife wants me to sell them, so I am trying to get more to go out than come in.

Thank you, I have been trolling over there, and have a couple of 50s myself already. Unfortunately, when I used Pentax bodies I became addicted to the three amigos, (the FA limiteds) but can't bring myself to think about buying one then butchering it. Plus I have to learn to frame in the "dark" with the lens being stopped down in the EVF only on my SD Q H. It's quite a trade-off.

Sigma has some nice lenses, but they are SOOOOO BIG. Will keep looking and see if its worth the effort to make the change. There are some problems using M42 adapters with the Sigma SA mount, and I don't want to risk damaging the electronics or the IR filter which the camera has very close to the lens mount.

Thanks Adam. I have to butcher the aperture lever and flange which sticks out controlling the auto aperture control and make the lens a manual only lens in order to have the PK mount fit the SA mount of the Sigma. In other ways they are the same. So I was just trying to find a less expensive solution as this will destroy the resale value of any lens I "modify". I already tried this on a cheaper non A zoom lens and it works fine. (A cheap one) Now I know how to do this a little more professionally.

The reason is I want a smaller lens on the camera, rather than the weaponized versions of the Sigma Art which are like taking a gym class with you for the day.

Am looking for a Pentax lens to mount on my Sigma SD Q H camera. Am looking for a smaller lens which can be general purpose which has a similar rendering to the famous FA Limited series. Interested in a wide angle, and short telephoto.

The introduction of a 100mp sensor will put much more pressure on the old lens line up. Not sure exactly what the ratios are for MF but it might be getting close to outresolving the sensor, perhaps not for the DFA lenses but would be unsure about the old lenses. A 100mp sensor is not useful unless you have the glass to match it.

Fuji just released in the USA. The price price deal here are the lenses. If they are as good as hoped could be a real winner for them.

Considering moving to medium format 645D or 645Z

Hi Boston UK shooter. (I am also in the Boston area and grew up in the UK).

Thank you so much for your input this is immensely helpful. I have high confidence in Pentax cameras, having used them for most of my life. The size issue is definitely a factor, and perhaps the only way to really tell is rent a set up for a defined trip and then try it all out.

I am watching for what Fuji is going to do, I know someone who has had their hands on it and they really like it.

I agree. A wonderful little camera, way underrated and currently affordable as it's been discontinued. (Bought mine used but like new)

Considering moving to medium format 645D or 645Z

So a while ago I sold my K3 and moved to a Nikon D810 with mainly Zeiss manual focus (zf.2) lenses. It has been a great platform, but my desire for increased quality is biting me yet again, and I am considering moving to Medium format once more. (Old 6X7 user)

So let me tell you a little about my needs. I shoot mainly landscape, still life, macro, and some street. (limited street). I have/am been addicted to the look of certain lenses and sensors. This kept me with Pentax and the Limited lens for the longest time, then made the move to Nikon for higher resolution (pre the release of the K1). This was also driven by the limited range of lenses available for the K mount at the time. Enough already of the history. I also own two Sigma cameras, the SD1M and D2PM, mainly for the resolution and look of the Foveon sensor. And a Leica X Vario for walk about.

If you are thinking ... Mike you have too much gear you are right.

This is another reason for considering Medium format. If I can sell and consolidate most of this equipment I could make a move to medium format and then have enough resolution and quality to create whatever "look" I want in the future. That's the theory at least.

Cameras on my radar include:

* The above mentioned Pentaxes
* Leica s2 (used)
* The new Fuji

So, I know I am on the Pentax forum, would you recommend a 645D or are its ISO limitations too much?
Is the 645D/Z too much to carry around all the time? (I don't have a problem with the D810 and the smaller ZF.2 lenses)

Any other thoughts or experiences you might have would be helpful.

Mike

Sorry should have been clear. ICM is Intentional Camera Movement. Despite what you might think, there is a lot of precision and experimentation associated with this area. Michael Orton is an expert in this field, it's worth looking at his work.

The skin tones look very nice on what has been shot so far. It would be really nice to see some very detailed shots with a very sharp lens like the Sigma 35mm ART or Zeiss lenses to see what the senors does with sharpness. The micro contrast on the FA limiteds looks nice as expected.

I think it does not make sense to continue to post these less than "best in class" images on the web site. Not sure what the difference might be with the production units, but others will want to compare this camera to the Nikon D810 and Canon offerings. This means using the best glass Pentax has access to and photographs that represent the final production quality of the K1.

Probably gray market. No warranty in the USA, which is not a good idea. However the price is awesome! Despite all the naysayers, this is an awesome camera, with Zeiss lenses produces tremendous quality images.

I have only had it for a couple of weeks, but it grows on me more every time I talk it out, even a "snapshot" seems to become something worth keeping or working on. My son's dog is a good example below.

World's Cheapest Leica ...

I managed to get a like new one for $1050 with $700 of accessories included. There are many out there for around $1000 plus of minus on eBay.

The slow nature of the lens is somewhat compensated for the great low light performance. I can easily shoot up to 3200 without worrying about image quality. At $2k-3k it's not such a good deal, but at $1K its a steal as you have a very good (almost prime like) quality lens thrown in.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but an affordable way to have a "carry around" Leica in your bag.

"we’ve seen a lot sharper from cameras like the Nikon D810"

Wow, this seems like a comedy of errors. Errors in releasing files that are not the very best representation of the camera output to begin with. Are people going to compare the K1 to the D810; of course they are. All the more reason to have well exposed controlled samples or the bad ones will be all over the internet like these ones. Also the Pixel shift examples are nowhere near as good at the ones on the K3ii, again looks like sloppy work all round.

Pentax needs to release pictures taken with excellent prime and new zoom lenses under controlled circumstances to show how this camera will really perform. A camera can easily get a bad rap before it's release and then it's all about damage control. I recently purchased a Leica X Vario, a camera slammed at the time of it's release by many non-experts. It has turned into a great bargain as a result, producing beautiful results.

Pentax wants to lure non-Pentax uses to the platform with this camera so they should be careful how and how they release pre-production output to pontificate about. At the end of the day the image quality is what we all buy when shelling out $2K on a new camera body.
