I wasn't planning on taking pictures of the solar eclipse on April 8th but maybe I might try (I work in Buffalo, NY). I'll be at work but I do have access to the rooftop and could go up there as long as its not cloudy out. My setup would be the k3iii with 150-450. Any tips on doing this for settings and filters? It'll be my first time doing a shot like this unless moon photos are similar...

Thanks for the feedback, I believe I have an idea of what I'd like to get. It'll be a wider zoom lens and the 70 - 200. My son starts flag football in April so I have some time. The tournament he did this weekend was his first and last for the year so I'll have until next year to get something else for that.

Here a few that I touched up in LR. It's hard doing everything from my phone but I haven't had time to do anything on my computer.
I would definitely think something along the 16-50 plan might be worth investing for wrestling. Weight don't matter much at the moment as I handhold the 150-450 for his football games.

Yeah, I concur on the 70-200. I'll be keeping an eye out over the next year or so. It was ok, I was actually too close to the action and the 18-135 might have done better but the shots I did take came out ok I thought. I'll post a few when I get a chance to clean a few up.

So I used the 55-300. I was right by the mat and it was utter chaos in there. I did shoot at 1/320 with f4.5 since I was shooting at 55mm the whole time. I had auto iso upto 10000 and most shots were at 8k or 10k.

I have the k3 iii. Maybe I'll just bring the 55-300 just because I don't know where I'll be. I can always move further away if need be. I almost always shoot in tav mode. I'm hoping the lighting in the school gym is pretty good ---------- Post added 02-17-24 at 07:28 PM ---------- I would like to get a f2.8 lens but my wife said not until I start selling photos and making some money from them... I use the 150-450 for football but I'd prefer the 70-200 so I can get a bit closer

So my son has a youth wrestling tournament tomorrow. It's his first one and he's 7, I have the 55-300plm lens and the 18-135 lens. I'm assuming the 18-135 might be the best option but I also don't know how far I'll be sitting. Any ideas which would probably work best? I have never really took pictures indoors either so I'll have make adjustments I'm sure.

I'll add that I bought mine from the warehouse for around that same price and listed in same condition. The shuttle count on the camera was 0 and looked brand new when I got it minus the original box. Not saying that this one would be the same, just sharing what I got.

There was 6 in the area and they were flying all around. I wish it wasn't such an overcast day but it was pouring out just before I started taking the pictures.

Took the 150-450 lens out today for the game and here are some results. Looks nice I think plus worked out great for this away game cause the spectators are pretty far out.

I might give the big lens a shot on a home game. I have to see the weather for this coming saturdays home game as it starts at 8am! I'll pack the big lens and give it a shot unless the coaches give me a pass to come to the sidelines to take pictures. I also have the 18-135 lens as well.Would that pair better than the 55-300 if I can get on the actually side lines with the players??

Thanks. I'm finding that moving myself around to get in the right position is critical. I'll get it down I'm sure

Some shots from today's game. My son is number 29. Being outside the fence was quite the distance from the field but it still seemed to work out good. I did some of the changes to my settings that was suggested and I think it helped. Felt like I was getting more quality shots at the right moments.

Thanks! It was my first time using the k3ii. The guy on the white bull hurt his foot or ankle or leg. Take a close look at his right foot.

Some of those shots from the rodeo. I figured if I used similar settings I'd be ok for football but I want to try some of your suggests this Sunday too.

I have shot raw at the last few rodeos and only a few times have I got slowed down by the buffering. Trying to get all the action for barrel racers going around the barrel takes to long apparently. So I just try to do burst shooting at times instead of just holding it down for the entire time they go around a barrel. Seems to have worked out well as I've gotten a few nice shots I think.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I was trying to do searches on google and one sport photographer says they only shoot jpeg for sports since it processes faster and can get more shots in without buffering.

My son is in his first year of pee-wee football (ages 6-8). Since I upgraded my camera, I am looking forward to his games to get pictures.
This Sunday is going to be a beautiful sunny day and his game is at 9:30am est. What settings should I be looking to start with, using the K3iii paired with my 55-300plm. I do have the 150-450 but feel it would be overkill since they start on the 30yard line and work their way to the goal.
We had a game last weekend but I only took a handful of photos since my son was only in the game a few times. These are about the only 2 that I liked out of the small grouping. I shared them in the team app and some folks liked the photos plus, I didn't know that we could share photos in the team app so I plan to take more pictures of everyone this coming weekend. Just trying to find a good starting point with my settings (iso, ap and shutter speeds). Also what seems to work best for focusing area? I believe I had it on just the Spot and had it centered...
