Glad to report that version 2.2 on the AD200 will incorporate the TCM function and will fix the severe underexposure problem in TTL. Hope this helps later Pentax users.

I have a new AD200 with the Pentax R2Pro trigger. I have the trigger set up for the AD200. When I shoot in TTL, I should get the equivalent manual reading when I push the TCM button. Instead I get 1/1 full power setting. My firmware is 2.1 on the AD200. There is a firmware upgrade of 2.2 but I am waiting for a USB to USB male cable to come in from Amazon. Will this upgrade solve my problem? Also, most of the time, the TTL exposure is about 3 stops too dark. I have to do a +3 on the setting. Will the upgrade fix this?

I bought mine off of a Pentax forum member. The guy that started this thread off to begin with. The one I bought from him does fit OK and attaches fine but yes indeed there is no room to bring out the USB door. If he is reading this, thanks a lot guy! But the battery door does open and that is the main thing. But I have the one that attaches to the battery grip.

Very disappointing. Not enough of us are demanding this flash connectivity to the vendors. I'm tired of Nikon, Canon, and Sony having all the good stuff!

Yeh but it has the funky allen wrench screw! And this is a Chinese company that may or may not let you return it if it doesn't fit. Any other source for it? I prefer even to go through eBay since they guarantee satisfaction.

Derekkite- as you have noted, the key is not to use any flash on full power. Use an assortment of flash off camera to get a more modeling effect.

My 540ii works great because I use the proper batteries-never alkaline!! Furthermore, with the K-3 sensor and certainly the Z sensor, I use higher ISO thus not demanding as much from the flash. And then I use a sensible F-stop like 5.6 or 8. Never F11!!! That will demand even more from the flash. Use your common sense and rudimentary camera basics and you will find yourself liking the flash-- because you are using it right!

Grimmis- I hardly use the live view, but I do see what you mean. I will start doing that in the field and see how it works. Enoseke, I always start with the exposure because I may not decide to take the shot and only need the level at the last moment. Also by coming back to the exposure mode, I'm then ready for my next shot. Often the light is changing rapidly too when I am on the tripod.
Looks like I'm not insane, other Pentax cameras have been able to dedicate one button for the level it looks like. I wonder what Nikon and Canon does for this?

When I set up on a tripod, I toggle my rear LCD to the status screen and adjust the exposure (I almost always use manual exposure). Then I hit the info button twice and cursor over to the electronic level to get the image set up straight. I then have to hit the info button two more times and then cursor over to the status screen to check exposure one last time before firing. What a cumbersome process!! I've looked at the U1,U2, U3 user modes but it doesn't seem to go into the status screen and electronic level automatically. Additionally it would be nice to substitute the RAW button to turn on the electronic screen and then turn it off. But that doesn't seem to be a program either.
I know I'm asking a pretty advanced question, and I hope someone out there has experienced this frustration themselves. Is there any work around to this, other than not using the electronic level and correcting in post processing later?

Holly smokes! Not a lot of options! Why did Pentax come up with that funky DC input! ---------- Post added 07-30-15 at 08:24 AM ---------- Bob mentioned that his K-5 got three hours of usage. If my K-3 with two batteries can get 6 hours, I should be OK? Anyone tried the battery grip for long exposures star shots?

I'm interested in photographing star trails and other night time images. With this type of photography, your battery can run out-even mine with the battery grip. How can I hook up an external power battery to the K-3 to keep it firing? I noticed there is a 8.3 DC input on the camera. What is that for?
