There's probably only the DA* 16-50 that offers wide angle, is Weather Sealed and possibly come close to the IQ of the 31mm ltd.

My apologies, I had missed your price range. But that being said, you are right, the aluminum version has the same characteristics, aside from price, weight and the vibration reduction that carbon fiber provides. I'm 6'1 and it took quite a while to find a good one at eye level without having to extend a center column. As a side note, I paid mine 380$CDN (so about 340$US) from a Sirui authorized dealer here in Toronto.

I would suggest you have a look at the Sirui M3204. m3204 Once you add the ball head and the camera, you're at the 65" range.
