More great stuff everyone!

ishootraw2 - what a superb composition of Bill the Tortoise. Oh yes, the World is mine! LOL

santa - Great crisp images of everyday stuff.

igorilla - Now I love the Winter Joy shot. Really excellent image. You guys sure have seen some snow over there. Makes for delightful winter pics.

jmschrei - Love the image of the guy watching the water flow fast. I feel cold just looking at it.

noelcmn - Beautiful colours in that floral image. I must buy Sian some flowers. She'll like them, i'll have something to shoot too. Aha! Birds and Bugs are superb.

wolfiegirl - WOW wolfiepup is growing fast. A real cutie, beautifully captured. So expressive and most photogenic.

smf - Terrific image of the orange slice. Love that!

bucfan1234 - Great textures on that rusty car.

Thanks for hosting Papa Lazarou.

What a great week! Wonderful shots from everyone. Nice abstract one from Santa too btw. Welcome to Singles In!

Am very behind this week. As I'm also on the run preparing for an intense few days in Sydney I am just going to show you highlights from Singles In as I don't have time to upload all the rejects yet (not to mention process them!).

It's been a busy week of wolfiepup trying out different vocations.

We begin with...

Wolfiepup the cookie monster

Wolfiepup the storyteller

"...and it was THIS big!!!" by wolfie_girl, on Flickr

Wolfiepup the comedian

Wolfiepup the hungry hippo

Is it morning tea yet? by wolfie_girl, on Flickr

Wolfiepup the Walker! Wolfiepup took her first steps yesterday. This was taken a few hours prior

And finally, Wolfiepup the Ballerina.

If that's Day 1 with the SLR, then you're off to a good start with some creative compositions.

And this forum is a great place to learn.

#4 missed focus a bit and #5 the colours are a bit odd.

As a beginner I think you are right on track - thinking about light, composition and form.
At this point don't get too hung up on the gear it will grow on you.

Good luck.

Santa,
Some good first attempts, you have a good eye. I'm particularly impressed with the shot of the glass jars, but i would be tempted to move the image slightly left. The fact that the tube it runs up the centre of the image makes some symetrical sense, but if you read up on the rule of thirds you may find that the eye would be drawn to a different part of the image if it was moved slightly.
Your lighting is good in all of the shots, so no problems there!
Apart from that I would suggest doing some reading on the composition of pictures, and keep trying. Maybe take three or four shots of the same scene but move the focus point around on each one (thirds, golden rule, golden mean, S shape) and see which one appeals to you the most.
Good luck
