Here's a couple taken with a Meyer-Optik Primoplan 58mm f1.9. I'm guessing the lens is around 1958/59 as it came with a Praktica IV camera (first version).
Here's some dying roses, shot wide open.
Here's my first attempt at a portrait with this lens at around f2.8 from memory. It's showing a fair amount of flare - from which I've concluded that this lens really needs a lens hood.
And here's what it looks like on the K-1 (shot with the Pentax Q7 and 01 standard lens) |

My last few Explores have been with non-Pentax gear, but visiting family in friends in the UK I shot this on the Pentax-F 17-28mm Fisheye zoom on the K-1

Final thoughts on the 07 pinhole lens as I won't get a chance to post tomorrow.
It is known that creativity often thrives when we are up against limitations. The pinhole has provided those limitations for me. There's no way to adjust aperture or focus. Sharpness only exists in the centre, with optimum distance around 60cm. Beyond that, the centre remains relatively sharp to further distances while the edges become increasingly blurry. This can help to focus attention on whatever is in the centre of the frame. But it's a very different feel to subject isolation from narrow depth of field. The effect looks more like results I've seen from some of the Lensbaby composer series lenses (though at a fraction of the cost). The other interesting effect is from the flare - which again is very different to the flare I've seen from other lenses.
The surprises to me have been (1) how sharp it can be in the centre in the right conditions; and (2) the miniturisation effect, especially when combined with the Q7's Tonal Expansion filter.
I probably won't use it all that much after this month but it's definitely one I'll hang onto. It's cheap and gives special effects that are unique. Recommended for anyone who has a Q series camera.

This one just got explored. I frequently wish that other photos of mine that I consider better would get explored rather than the ones that do. Having said that - there are many that get explored that really deserve it. I'm just not sure that this one does! |

A late, last minute entry! I'm joining with the 07 Pinhole lens for the Pentax Q7. Mainly because I'm impressed by it's pocketable size and it's sufficiently different to push my creative edge this month (something that needs to happen). Here's a selfie with it taken earlier today. |

Confession time: I've been lurking on this Zeiss club thread for some time, drooling over the wonderful images here, and it inspired me over the last 12 months to lay my hands on the 35/2 and then (thanks to Les3547) the 28/2. There is definitely something very special about the Zeiss Distagon look, and once I started shooting with the 35/2 I knew I wanted more of these lenses. But it was especially Tas's images with the 21/2.8 that wowed me.
Well, on Friday I Leitaxed a ZF 21/2.8 and yesterday I took it out for a walk around Melbourne, and I'm not disappointed! What impresses me particularly, apart from the extraordinary punchiness of the microcontrast and colours, is the absence of distortion in such a wide angle. I know that I'm going to have a lot of fun with the possibilities of this lens.
Here's a few shots. First with the 21/2.8
Now with the 28/2
And finally, a couple with the 35/2 |

Yesterday I played around comparing a whole bunch of 50-ish lenses. Here's a few for your enjoyment:
Primoplan 58mm f1.9 (original 1950s version) stopped down very slightly to f2.0
Volna 50mm f1.8 wide open
Helios 44-7 wide open at f2

Here you are:
It's probably my most used lens. I took it to the Kimberley last June (a very dusty place) and no complaints with regard to image quality. It's also light and compact, which means I tend to take it with me more often than the D-FA 24-70.

Haha, yes I deliberately didn't put in my conclusions in my original post because I wanted others to come to their own conclusions.
But a few general observations:
1. All of the lenses are good enough, and in the right hands are capable of producing outstanding images. Yes, some are sharper than others, but unless you are planning to produce very large prints (or are a pixel peeper) they are all sharp enough.
2. In the light of the above point, other aspects (than image quality) are just as important: - ergonomics; ease of focusing and aperture change; aesthetics (how the lens looks on the camera). For example, the Yashinon 5cm f2 scores highly here - a great looker with a construction and smooth focus pull that puts it right up with the best Takumars. Similarly the Volna 1.8 scores well for being a K-mount. and the Pentax-A lenses get points for the camera aperture control.
3. Sample variation probably plays a big a role.
4. My three Helios 44 lenses all share excellent centre sharpness, colour, and cats-eye bokeh a the edges of the frame (which give rise to the famous Helios swirl). Before doing this test I would have put my 44-3 (which I've had the longest) at the top. But the 44m-7 is better optically, and the 13-blade silver version is very close behind it. I'd be interested to get hold of the K-mount version and compare.
5. Lenses I'll definitely be keeping for their distinctive bokeh are the Helios, Primoplan and Takumar sonnar design (58/2) - though the test shots don't always show this bokeh at its best.
6. Yes, the Trioplan 50 produces distinctive bubble bokeh, but to maximise the effect, a crop camera (or extension tubes) would be better than full frame.
7. The prize for sharpness goes (not surprisingly) to the Pentax-F Macro, closely followed by the DA*55 and FA43. I'll be keeping all three.

Loving this on the K-1. On a recent trip to the Kimberley I took a slew of lenses, including the FA*31 and FA*77 but I ended up taking far more shots with the FA*43 than any other lens.

I recently did a very unscientific shoot out on my K-1 of some of my lenses in the 50-ish range, mainly looking at centre sharpness and bokeh in the wide-open to f2.8 range. In all cases I used live view magnified to focus on the letter 'K' in the test model. The unscientific-ness of the test is that I moved the model camera a bit to compensate for different minimum focusing distances on the various lenses and also fine-tuning the aesthetics. So not a truly "apples vs apples" shoot out, but informative (to me) nevertheless.
The photos are here: Lens tests 50mm bokeh | Flickr
The lenses I shot were:
58mm lenses:
Helios 44m-7
Helios 44-3
Helios 44 (silver, 13-blade version)
Takumar 58mm f2 (Sonnar formula)
Takumar 58mm f2.4 (Heliar formula)
Meyer-Optik Primoplan 58
Cosina Voigtlander 58 f1.4
55mm lenses:
Super-Takumar 55 f1.8
Auto-Takumar 55 f2.2
DA*55 f1.4
50mm lenses:
Pentax K 50mm f1.2
Pentax A 50mm f1.4
Pentax A 50mm f2
Pentax-F Macro 50mm f2.8
Pentax-F 50mm f1.7
Auto Yashinon 5cm f2 (Tomioka)
Auto Rikenon 5cm f2
Meyer-Optik Trioplan 50mm f2.8
Volna 50mm f1.8
Others
Pentax FA Ltd 43mm f1.9
Cosina Voigtlander 40mm f2
Partly of the reason for doing this shoot out (apart from the fun of it) was that I need to divest myself of some lenses after a lengthy and protracted bout of LBA, and I now have a better idea of which ones I'm ready to let go and which ones to keep. I hope this is useful for someone else.
