Thanks for your kind comments - it was like hearing myself commenting on a friend who got the same 15mm half a year before myself.
Itīs hard to fill the frame with something interesting, but the reward is great if itīs done right.
When out to a beach nearby yesterday - and captured this (among others), what do you think?

The k-3 is a fantastic camera - but as others have said here - you won't see many great shots from the standard kit lenses.
And when that's said - I also have some kit lenses, and I've taken many pictures with these - but the real fun started when I got hold of some primes and wide angle zoom. I would really recommend that you also buy the 50 f1.8, it's a sharp and fine lens and an excellent tool when trying out the k-3

Beautiful!
Can't really decide if I would prefer a little more DOF, it is really special the way the base of the flower seems to glow :)

Really nice pictures - love the way you've captured every bit of texture in those petals (is that the correct word?).

Hello
I was out one morning - with a limited 70 on the k-3 and firmware 1.02, no battery-grip, guessing that the battery was at about 50%, suddenly while still focusing the shutter went into machine gun style, I switched off the camera - but the shutter still continued for a few seconds before stopping. I turned the camera back on, no pictures were taken during the crazy shutter movements, and haven't seen it happening since. have taken about 1000 pictures since this happened - and now I've upgraded to the 1.03.

It's raining outside - and I'm to wet and cold to take pictures outside - so then it's time to find some dead things - and see what can be done in the garage.

Had to really look around - but finally found a checkbox marked fringing - had to set the value to 100 - and this is the result:
Any improvements?

Ok - I've used Picasa, and selected a neutral color (guessing about 18% grey in the sky between the branches) is this going the right way?

Ok - I'll be the first to admit that my photos are merely snapshots, nothing poster-worthy as of now, I'm beginning to learn the transition to digital means I can actually step up the ISO for a single shot - not something that requires film change and darkroom post-processing.
As for digital post processing I'm truly a beginner, for close to ten years now I've been satisfied with Picasa - and the "fixing" tools available there, now and then I've tried to use other programs dedicated to raw processing, typically Silkypix based software - always with the same result, I don't understand the terminology - and if I succeed to make a change in the image - it's always towards making it worse.
So now - my question, several of you mention "PP" and "PP work" - to me that is just letters - but I'm hoping there is something worth learning here - I would very much like to be proud of my snapshots - and to create poster worthy pictures, so if PP is the thing I need to understand and use, then I'll give it a try.
But - what is PP?

Loved number 8 and 11 - but not enough to take up golfing.
But I do indeed see the need to have a light and sharp telephoto lens...

Ok, I've been struggling.
Posting pictures here have become almost addictive.
Now I've been offline for a few days - but enough is enough.
Still having fun with my k-3 and exploring new opportunities. The last few days have shown me that going digital enables you to switch iso in-between pictures, which is something I need to practice a bit more. Also - I've finally figured out how to use two old flashes on a "photo switch" (what do you call those flash triggers that react upon flash light). Have a look at some of my pictures from the last few days, neither of them are breath taking - but I sure had fun while taking them.
First of all - we're in wideangle mode, 10mm-17mm to be specific.
Then it's 70mm Limited for a few shots, before trying the Lensbaby sweet 35 after some shots with the standard f1,8 50mm

Thanks for the uplifting comments - took it a bit further today, still the same old flash triggered by a photocell (what's it called in english?) - but this time covered in layers of thin paper using direct lighting as opposed to yesterday when i bounced it off the roof.
Also - all images are at f22 at 1/3 of a second - and as yesterday they're all handheld - both flash and camera, trying out weird angles. Only cropped to 5/8 format and some of them are rotated a bit in Picasa.
What do you think - am I onto something?

Download Picasa from Google - it handles DNG's well - and does some stuff automagically. Note: You do not have to register any type of Google account to use Picasa, and it is free, and available to anyone.
Good luck - and post some photos - and I'm quite sure someone here can guide you in the right direction. You're among friends!

An old Sunpak auto301 was left alone - but with new batteries and a light trigger attached it suddenly became a lighting tool - had to step my camera flash down to 1/16 - but I think I have something that needs a place in my photo bag. All handheld - and actually using the autofocus - which is surprisingly good - even in low light....

I personally think the body doesn't really matter - you need to think about the lenses, and for those $100 I guess you can find something interesting.
Bottom line - if you like the feel of holding the camera - it's going to be something you'll carry along, which is when you'll use it to take pictures. Even trying - I can't think of a camera today that takes bad pictures - doesn't matter if it's five years old, what it boils down to is what's in front of the body (the lens) and what's behind it (you). :-)

Have a look at your Exif Info - it will show you the details - beats carrying around a notebook and writing notes as I was tought when starting to experiment.
Also a quick tip of mine, forget the "Auto" or program mode - go for Aperture priority and train on controlling the depth of field (just my 2 cents).
Keep up the good work - maybe one day we both can shoot images that actually deserves a place on the wall - in the living room, not just in the shed :-)

Thank you for the kind words.
I live on the coast in the south-west of Norway, and winter here can be very unpredictable. One day it is fine - warm winds and the feeling of spring - the next day it can be 30cm of snow and subzero temperatures. But we're prepared - the winter tires are on the car - and the snow shuffle is easily accessible. None the less - I'm quite happy with the snow falling in the already shuffled state (i.e. rain) - and using a pentax - rain doesn't trouble me at all. :)
Just as a reference - here's a picture from february 2010

I look for these things in a tripod
1. Can each leg be positioned and locked at different angles (Maybe you are in a tight spot and only can have to legs on the ground and one up on the wall)
2. Quick release bracket for the camera, it's a pain having to screw on and off the camera
3. Rubber and spikes on the legs.
For many years I have been using one of the Vanguard Alta+ tripods and can attest for it's build quality. :-)
