Thanks.. I tried a variety of lens. All produced different sorts of odd camera responses.... and autofocus was not reliable on any. And I cannot seem to narrow down the "problem" based on the variery od responses.
I think it's going to need a professional cleaning and inspection. It's been overseas a lot. I love the K-3 camera and its lenses, when it works, despite it heavy weight. ---------- Post added 07-22-2018 at 02:07 PM ---------- Now I am quite embarrassed... I simply cleaned the heads, and the "electronic jumping around" and faulty autofocus disappeared using my Pentax 18-270 and 50 mm.
However, as I tested it on my Pentax 16-50 (f2.8) and my Sigma 70-200 (f2.8) neither responded to autofocus... I'll have to check it out some more

Yesterday: My K-3, with Pentax lens 18-270mm
First the auto-focus did not work.... then it did.
I checked settings and each time I pressed the "info” or "menu" buttons, they simply flashed for a split-second and then disappeared.
Then, adjusting for shutter speed, the balance indicator on both the LCD screen and the monitor simply bounced back and forth wildly.
I work mainly in Manual, so I shifted to Auto to see what would happen...and, there, every setting was constantly changing, wobbling back and forth wildly.
I switched batteries, but nothing changed.
Any thoughts or suggestions, other than taking it to the camera repair store?

I've now cleaned the contacts as suggested..and will take the K-3 out for a test, before traveling overseas soon.
Thanks to all of you!
I had visions of a major repair, and related costs.
I really like the K-3, even though I all of my similarly "elder" friends
are looking for much smaller and lighter equipment..

Over the past month or so, every once in a while the F-stop place in viewer, reads "F...." (i.e.,nothing) and does not adjust.
When I remove and replace ("reboot"?) the lens,it works fine again.
Any suggestions as to what's going on ? ....and how I might fix it permanently?
FYI: I generally use only a Pentax 18-270mm lens.

Sometimes and lately (i.e., not always and not when I first got the camera several years ago) outdoor shots in bright light have an overall blue tone.
My camera is a K-3 and am usually using my Pentax 18-270 mm lens.
The bluing disappears when I shift from AWB to specific mode (e.g. daylight). What that obviously suggests is "don't use AWB." However, many have praised the AWB for the Pentax K-3, and in the past it's been great. Should I take it to a repair shop for White Balance adjustment? Or should I simply pay more attention to initial shots in bright light?
Below, to illustrate, are two pictures, ...56 in AWB and ...57 in "sun" immediately afterward.
Any thoughts? Or suggestions?

Thanks folks...
Card: Hmmm..sensible, and easily tested. I will simply change cards to check.
Mode: I use M mode almost all the time...except for fast-movement/sports shots. Should this cause a problem?

Lately, after 3 years with the K 3, when I start a new series of shots (e.g., first of the day, or after a long break), the first image is totally black, as if greatly underexposed. Any idea what's going on?
Camera? Old or faulty card?

Thanks folks...I was looking for something that would get me "closer" to my son's crew/rowing races (e.g. faces) .
This is very useful. I have a fast 70-200 2.8mm, but it's the Sigma, which is not compatable.

Hi,
I read/hear lots of great things about the Pentx1.4 teleconverter. And, though Pentax recommends f4 or faster, others have said it works OK with slower models.
Does anyone have experience with the 1.4 and the Pentax 18-270 mm, zoom? (I have a K-3 body)
This lens "should be" compatable, but before ordering and testing the converter, I 'd love to hear someone's expereinces.and comments.
Thanks... (I

Thanks folks.. I'm now looking for a good deal on the 18-270.
As others have recommended, I will never dump my excellent Pentax 16-50 but am considering what to do with the Sigma 70-200. It's amazing how much only 3 lbs weighs on long, multi-stop trips. And with the extraordinary ISO range of the K 3, low light problems are diminished.

Hey, I just bought a 5-135 mm from some guy in Japan or Singapore. it's "in the mail".
Seriously, I just got back from a long and photogenic trip where I carried a K 3 and heavy lenses on/off planes, buses, and onto my shoulders so much that I nearly lost interest. That's a mistake. So now I want to lighten the load, as I get (quite a bit) older, despite regular exercise.
Any lightly-used 18-270 mm lenses out there?

Thanks folks for the quick replies. As some have suggested, I will probably travel with/continue to use the excellent 16-50. It's the Sigma 70-200 that gets too heavy and underused. That one is about 3 lbs and bulky, whereas the 18-270 which is about 1 pound and much more compact, it appears. It would also be nice to have a single lens in dusty windy places.
Now I'll try to find a used 18-270.... se to
It also may make sense, as was suggested, to replace the Sigma 70-200 mm with the Pentax 5-135, and get a converter (cannot use the Pentax converter on the Sigma.)

Hi,
I have a K-3 with the terrific, but heavy, Pentax 16-50 mm and Sigma 70-200 mm lenses. . They are not "fun" to lug around on long multi-stop trips. I would love a lighter zoom for travel, and the 18-270 mm seems perfect for wide range and lighter weight (though clearly not as fine a lens.) However, others have suggested that it's not a good match with the K 3. I wonder why... and then wonder if really makes a difference for travel shots.
Thoughts or experiences?

Help! (Embarrassed ):
I have just begun to use Pentax Digital utility program (rather than Picasa) . The main reason is to be able to work with RAW files. I am doing something wrong.
I download onto my PC and then find the image (easy). Then I go to "laboratory" and can see the convert icons but cannot access them (dull icon) , only option (darker icon) is "save image data list." I do that and nothing helps. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks folks...this is very clear, and thus very helpful. I will simply have to live without the 1.4 converter on an upcoming trip.

Has anyone tried the new HD Pentax-DA 1.4x AW AF Rear Converter with the (widely-used) Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 (EX DG APO OS HSM)? Quite simply, does the HSM autofocus work?
The reviews are unclear, and I imagine that anyone who tries the two will know immediately. I have a new K3 body, if that matters.

Will the new Pentax rear converter (1.4) work with the Sigma 70-200 (2.8) HSM zoom ?
I now have nice new K- 3 body and hope so...

Why does my K10 d often shoot dark images, even when I open it up two clicks? It's particularly noticeable in mid- to low- light "out of doors" shots.

Thanks. But after I run the set up (PBLVO 361.EXE,, it asks if I want to install, I say yes, and then it tells me I must insert the CD, which I have lost or misplaced.
