If you're okay with the focal length, you can't beat the Ricoh GR for a pocket camera.

So many of the MX-1's shortcomings could be addressed with a FW update... I have both the Q and the MX-1 and the additional features of the Q are many. Of course, the MX-1 blows it away in IQ so it's a tough call between them.

Switched from Fujifilm X-T1 to K-5 IIs yesterday. The ergonomics of the X-T1 didn't quite live up to my expectations.

Really, the only component shared is the lens. The MX-1 is much better at higher ISOs, better DR and more natural colors SOOC. My mom uses an XZ-1 and it really has to rely on that fast lens to keep the ISOs down.

Yes! Enchanted Rock. My uncle has a ranch house near Stonewall, TX which is a short drive down the road so I've visited often. I look forward to shooting in the coming Spring months when there's a bit more green.

Thanks for the kind comments. I'm a New Braunfels native but I've been working in Houston the past two years... it has really made me appreciate the trips back home!

Just a few pictures from a weekend trip to the Hill Country with some friends. It was a good chance for me to try out my new MX-1 and for my friend to try out his new Q. These are a mix of SOOC JPEG and RAW. C&C always welcome. |

Here are some of my first shots from my MX-1. Compared to my Q, the image quality is a noticeable step up. There are a few refinements that I wish would come as a firmware update, but I'm not holding my breath. I love the tilting, high-res LCD. The battery life is much stronger than the Q. The JPEG processing is much more aggressive and artificial-looking than the Q's light-handed approach... but there is much more detail in the MX-1 files. RAW highlight recovery is awesome (see bridge picture). RAW write times aren't as bad as some say, in my opinion. As long as you aren't shooting fast action I don't see it being a problem. The fast lens produces some convincing bokeh, even at longer distances. This would be an almost ideal travel camera.
Some of these are RAW, some are SOOC JPEG. Enjoy! |

I've recently picked up two Pentax cameras - a Q and an MX-1, courtesy of deal-a-day sites. I'm looking forward to using this community as a means to share knowledge and grow as a photographer.
