The sun sent a ray of light through the rain only for a few seconds, so this was just a quick grab shot.

They visit my garden from time to time and spend the day resting in trees around the house. ---------- Post added 02-26-14 at 11:07 AM ----------
They were low in the tree but I also did a light crop.

You should see our 'King Browns', 'Tiger' snakes or 'Taipans'. You won't see me taking shots from them, surely.

This is a 'Red Belly Black Snake' and it's venomous. They are quite common in my garden.

Yes, You probably want to bypass this place. It's a crass party and booze town + a few other things. The fence is designed to allow vegetation to get a foothold and are off limits for the public.

Yes, Flies look quite pretty on macro images and they are not easy to get close to with a camera. I like insect shots generally.

You are right , the horizon tilts to the right a little. It was a hazy day but I also find that for some reason the image quality displayed here is not very good.

Thanks for Your thoughts. Sometimes You have to use what You got (100mm). I did not plan this shot and as I stated above, this photo is tack sharp on my monitor ( developed in 'Lightroom') but looks dull and lifeless on this display site.

Getting close to insects is tricky business, there is a lot of luck involved. I have to say that I am not very happy with the photo quality of my shots displayed here so far. They seem to look flat and not very sharp. On my home monitor these images look vibrant and sharp. I wonder why. What I am seeing here of my shots has barely I Phone quality.

Yes, mis focussing can be subject to several reasons, even a spec of dust on the mirror can cause focus problems, but for my part I can distinguish motion blur from focus error. I am too afraid to send my K5IIs to Pentax Australia. It took them 1 month to replace a memory card door. To let them check the focussing module is like saying 'Good Bye camera'. Cheers

Thanks. Yes, the choice here was more sand or more sky. I wish I could have stretched the water in the middle a little more. Cheers, Hans

Hi Adam
I gave it another shot and this time it worked. It is a different procedure to what I am used to and had to play around a bit more. Thank You for Your help.

Hi
I have been running into the same problem (focus unreliability) with my K5IIs, especially when using the 40mm 2.8 ltd. and the 70mm 2.4 ltd. It is so bad that I don't use those lenses any more. No amount of in camera 'fine tuning' would make any difference. The same problem appeared in my K3 but to a lesser extend. The focus points in the K3 are smaller than in other Pentax cameras and focussing requires accurate technique. I find both camera excellent when they focus as intended but sometimes it's really frustrating when 50% of shots are mis focussed for no apparent reason.

Thank You for Your input. I usually transfer images from 'Lightroom' (MacBook Pro) to other forum sites without a hitch. Does not seem to work here at Pentax Forums. Joining other photo sites just to be able to post here is a bit of a stretch and cumbersome.
Barely arrived, already left. Cheers, Hans
