K30 Aperture failure advice

It has made me nervous going with Pentax again but that KP sure looks nice! Looks like you can use a battery grip with it as well :-)

I limped it along for a while the first time with the high speed burst until it finally went. The second failure wouldn't respond with the same treatment. Luckily the same shop gave me a big labor discount seeing as they did the first repair. I figured I should at least fix it and either sell it or run it into the ground. I think I'll use it till it dies and go from there, I've gotten quite a few years out of it. Thanks for the heads-up on the K-S :-)

On my second K-50 aperture repair. Anyone know what other models were prone to this? :-(

Badly underexposed (near black) images after turning on the camera

My K-50 started doing the same thing - did you get it repaired?

To work around this I found if I pull the memory card and burst fire it for a dozen or so frames it starts working again until the next time I let it sit a while. I know it's not really a fix, but it might at least let you use the thing if you weren't able to get it fixed or get rid of it in that condition.

Sorry about that! I thought I was good with the description of the contest where it said the final image can be created in-camera. Thank you for letting me re-submit, I'll see what I can come up with!

- "The theme for the official Pentax Forums photo contest for January, 2016 is:

Composite

For this month's contest the theme is "Composite". You image must be a composite of two or more exposures, but you are free to select the subject. The final image can be created in-camera (multi-exposure or interval composite) or in post processing as you see fit. Be prepared to explain the steps you took to create the final image.

There were some very dark clouds in patches creating some interesting lighting. I had never tried shooting just black and white on these buildings before - then added the HDR to make it pop.

...represent Pentax owners everywhere! I promise to give Pentax users a voice in this Canikon world! In learning to use this K-50 I have heard of the low light abilities of a prime and would love to learn to use one. I bought my daughter a used K-x and sharing glass has been such a neat bonus. I can't promise it will have the life of luxury, but if it comes to live with me it will be well loved and creatively used! Thank you!

Thank you! I was smiling almost as big when I saw I had captured this. I am a beginner, but after borrowing a DSLR it is hard to use a point-and-shoot again.

Makes me stop to appreciate that sometimes it's something as simple as a balloon that makes a child smile ear to ear with a genuine candid happiness.

Live View and ISO differences

Wow, that was an awesome explanation. Thank you both for the quick replies. I suppose the easiest fix for me is to not be lazy and set the ISO for the lighting conditions instead of relying on the auto ISO if it isn't behaving the way I want it to. Or use the Live View if I like the results better :-) So far I like the camera a lot, at first I wasn't sure if I liked the flash not popping up auto-magically but then I remembered the T2i I used where it kept popping up when it wasn't allowed.

Thank you guys again, I did a lot of reading on this forum before buying. Tons of great support!

Live View and ISO differences

Hello everyone, just picked up a K-50. One thing I noticed and can't seem to find a setting for is why the picture is so much different using Live View. I prefer the viewfinder but on a low-light picture just turning on Live View boosted the auto ISO to where the picture was much brighter (and I noticed a double-shutter). HDR is off. Anyone else notice this?

Thanks!
