Is this a credible tease? I guess if it comes from pentax... I have not wanted to get rid of my K5iis since the first day. I looked around though... I am due for an upgrade lol 😂

New body or keep K5iis?

As a matter of fact , I just recruited my daughter and went to the pond to do a few tests. Here are just some quick shots, no tripod and nothing fancy. First two are Q and other two K5iiS.
Unfortunately, I didn't set both cameras exactly the same way except I got both to shoot jpgs. The Q was set to "portrait", which may explain why is not super sharp and skin tone is a little different. These photos have not been cropped or edited. I'd say the Q is not too shabby! as a result, she is now interested in photography and asked if she could take the Q on the trip!

This might work too... Uwa, mid and tele.

Or just bring the sigma and the 18 - 135...

Now, there's an idea... What about low light shooting? I have the prime and zoom lenses only and the original Q.

I hear you! I am taking my wife and 9 year old daughter. Any eye rolling can be countered by nice portraits with bokeh and nice post production lol.
I also have a Pentax Q . But my Sony Xperia would probably do better...

As per your suggestion, this looks like it should cover the range very well... Still not sure if I need the 100? It's not exactly small and light. But there may be situations when you want to compress...

Thanks

Well, now you are making me want to take my MX instead haha. I am seldom disappointed with the results and it does have a decent zoom range, but of course I 😍 a viewfinder. Then there's the k01, which by being so flat, allows you to rest it in most surfaces without a tripod....

I also have the gh4, but it's not smaller than K5iis and I don't enjoy it's stills quality or viewfinder. Only advantage is the weight. I also have premium lenses for it.

Bravo, well said. I've taken the K5iis these past few days through it paces and it is performing well. It doesn't even look or feel that old, except for a few scratches on the top lcd. I just remember having to do a lot of post processing when doing landscape (amateur) and portrait shots. White balance, etc but also get the feeling that the sharpness is not the best but of course, I blame the lenses for that. I could take the body with a 18-135 and skip the 20 - 40. The sigma 10-20 will definitely help and the 35 macro limited would complete it. I would probably leave behind the 100 macro, the 100_300 and the 77,unless I want some cool bokeh shots of my girls. Or the 43? It's such a cute and small lens! There is also a lot of things we can spend money 💵 on during the trip, keeping my trusty old K5iis! Sometimes relationships need a little stress before they can rekindle..... I think that I will keep on with what I have until pentax releases something irresistible.

Regards

Pedro

One question I have and I apologize if it's an annoying one, as I didn't do a search.... Are the limited lenses that much better with the K1? I love my 35,43 and 77 but they are not particularly spectacular with K5iis, as most of you know. Will utilizing the whole frame make them less prone to fringing or edge to edge distortion? I only have the green versions.

Thanks so much. I admit that the layout of the KP felt a little bit foreign to me and I didn't give it enough time for some ergo learning. To make matters worse, my specimen came with dust bunnies in the viewfinder and I felt compelled to return for that reason too. I am going to test the k5 for the next two days and see if it works as expected. I will look closely at the files and maybe I can post some here for you to analyze.

Many thanks. Yes, will be visiting the mosque in córdoba and la Alhambra in Granada. Also the pueblos blancos and Will be in sevilla a few days, so plenty of nightlife plus the white towns in midday will put pressure on the dynamic range, something that the K1 should be able to do well...

Thanks so much for the excellent answers. I do have a few lenses. Got Limited 77, 35, 43 and 100m macro (not really a limited, I guess). Also the new limited zoom , can't remember, but it's the wide angle one. I also have 100 to 300 and the standard green one, 24 to 135????
And a Sigma UAW which is super wide but can't remember! 10 to 12 or something. Did I mention it's been a while?
I also have a GH4 by another camera brand with nice lenses, which is my go to for my daughters recitals. But I don't like the stills from that camera....

Im thinking , bite the bullet and get K1.... that way I will actually notice a real improvement.

Hi All

I'm a regular lurker here. Iv'e enjoyed Pentax for years and have a few of them , including mark newson (!!!). I have been very happy with K5iis for a long time and although I don't shoot so much anymore, I am getting ready to travel through Spain next week.
I ordered a KP, thinking that I wanted something small, but it actually feels to small in the grip, plus overall the body doesn't seem to be that much smaller than K5. I didn't do any pixel peeping, but files looked similar on lightroom.
I am seriously considering the K1, but I would gain the weight and size plus don't know if I want to pay that much?
The other option would be the K3ii, but do you think that I woud miss the K5iis?
I do think that the K5iis files have gotten a little less sharp. I just checked for actuations and it's on the 14,000 range... I am also very used to the K5 ergonomically. Furthermore, I sometimes experience sudden battery discharges, hence I am worried about reliability, as the camera has been used and abused. In fact, the grip doesn't seem to be getting along with the body these days...

Would you go for K3ii, or K1? The trip to Spain is two weeks long and I do want to bring home some good files. If you are interested in seeing my skill level, check my account on flickr under the same username as here.

Many thanks!

Pedro

Thanks Matt. It was handheld, sitting on the ground. The place was full of people picnicking and playing around. I had to wait a couple of hours until closing time and then, the guards were very quick and persistent, so I only had a few chances while they kept trying to enforce the removal from premises. I took a few quick shots and this was one of them...

Yes, there was sand all over the place. I avoided changing lenses on site. By the time I got back to the motel, I just used a dust blower. The 35 limited had sand everywhere, but a year after, it's all gone and the lens is doing fine. It's inevitable for the camera bag to get all sandy. I highly recommend this place!
