A few more shots of California's high desert country, taken around Mono Lake and a little further south in the Owens Valley.
An interesting contrast between the red brush and the yellowish tumbleweeds.
Another from Conway Summit. I'm seriously thinking about going back up here the weekend after next.
Approaching Mono Lake from the southeast on highway 120.
Trying a bird shot in Mono Lake. It's a little out of focus (300 mm handheld) but I like it anyway!
A little further south, on US 395 near the town of Lone Pine. |

First capture with new Ricoh GR.
I've always been a Pentax owner and at present have K-5 and K-3 with some great prime and assorted lenses but today I received the Ricoh GR.
Here is the first ever uploaded image from that camera.
Cheers to all,
Clare

My first good camera was a smartphone. It was great mainly because it was always with me. I have thousands of pictures I have taken by it, and I'm not talking about family/friends/vacations... Just pictures for the fun to take pictures. I tried to improve myself day by day. This serie was taken almost 2 years ago, with a Sony Xperia Arc S (not a great camera at all), when I went back to Napoli for few days to my family, and completely edited using Snapseed on my Android phone.
The city was surreal, usually it is full of people in the day and the night, but some circumstances (a demonstration made the police close this area, the storm suddenly took a break) helped me to have a "different" view of the city.
I'm happy with these pictures and I would like to hear your comments, good or bad as they are, I will appreciate them! |

50 was "the lens" for decades: the view angle similar to the human eye, the possibility to have great apertures, portability and more.
With the crop factor of 1.5 it becomes a 75...I still think that it remains a great lens adding to the other qualities the possibility to indulge more on details and little objects that makes the photos actual and introspective.
You have also the perfect lens for portraits, and, special for me, very fast in reportage.
What else? The special "colour" of Pentax lenses obviously!!!
The attached shot was done at 55mm (the image is not cutted or reshaped): capture the moment is my preferred way, and a 50 FA 1.8 will helps very much.
Cheers

Had to stop in the road to grab this sunrise jewel, from my car, hand held. :-) Not sure why I got the "green halo" effect!

Heres a portrait i had it in colors but could not get the eyes to pop, took it to B&W and found what i wish i had in colors. Still decently satisfied with the result.
your thoughts?

Back in September my brother and I grabbed our Pentax gear to do wander streets of Petrolia, Ontario. We came across the grand old Victorian Mansion that looks like it has seen better days. I know nothing of the history about this place, but it captivated me. I felt drawn by its majesty, the sense of a fading glory and former elegance and a sadness to see it in decay, but a glimmer of hope as it is being slowly restored.
I took the photo with my K-3 and the 21mm Ltd lens, which make for a great walk around system. I always shoot DNG and this photo was first developed in Lightroom and then converted to B&W in Silver Efex Pro 2.
