HD PENTAX-D FA★70-200mmF2.8 ED DC AW fokus problem and blury

Hei.

Takk for tilbakemelding.

English translation:

Hello.

Thank you for your feedback.
I have tried the lens on two other cameras with the same result, and I have also tried focus adjustment in camera without success.

I have been in contact with C&V following your recommendation, and received confirmation as you wrote that it had to be sent on for assessment and possibly repair.

It will be interesting to get a price estimate to see if it is worth investing in a repair.

My HD PENTAX-D FA★70-200mmF2.8 ED DC AW have problem with hit or miss focus especially on longer distances. It’s also useless at f2.8 because it’s very blurry, exelent from f4.0.
I knew of these problems, but I for the lens very ceap. Is there any point to send it to service and perhaps manage to fix these issues.

Why Bulb on modern cameras

I did not know it is possible to get 20 min exposure without using bulb. Where do I find this option on Pentax KP?

---------- Post added 02-04-20 at 07:31 AM ----------

Didn’t think of this way of using bulb. Nice.

---------- Post added 02-04-20 at 07:47 AM ----------

Thank you. Works on Pentax KP to. This is so cool. If I combine bulb long exposure in camera body with interval shooting, I can get as long exposure as the battery can manage. For long exposure I use battery grip and batteries from my Pentax K3 to get extra power.
Thanks for all replies.

Why Bulb on modern cameras

I have wonder for many years. Why do modern slr cameras have a limit of maximum 30s shutter speed. Modern cameras have all sorts of wonders, but we still have to use the bulb function if we need shutter speed longer than 30s.
I hope Pentax would implement longer shutter speed in their new camera body so we don’t need external controller for this purpose.

I used photoshop to combine the photos. Converting the photos as a smart object and composite mode maximum for the star trails.
The KP has an internal function Star Strem for this purpose if you like to try this.

Embarking on an experiment (K3 II vs. GR III)

I have both the GR III and the KP. Late summer 2019 I took the GR III and KP with 50-135mm, 24-70mm and 12-24mm on a trip to GB. I and a friend walked along the Thames Path for 3 days. On this trip I used both the GR III and KP. For me this combination was excellent. The GR III in my pocket was used on the go and in cities og streets. The KP when I needed other focal length or had more time to plan a photo.
Surprisingly about 50% of my best pictures was taken with my GR III. The picture quality from the GR III is on par wit my KP, so I had no hesitation using the GR III instead og the KP. The GR III will follow me on all my trips, but I will also bring my KP for situations where the GR III will shortcome.

The link is to my blog for those who want to see pictures from the trip along the Thames from Oxford til Goring.
The text is in norwegian, but the pictures are international ;-)

This picture is taken with Pentax KP and Pentax 12-24mm lens.
The picture is combined of 9 photos with shutter speed 8 min, that gives a total of 72 min exposure.
I think the KP is a wonderfull camera. The only downside for me is the battery capacity winter. Then i use the battery grip and uses my batteries from my K3 in the KP battery grip.

I have now ordered the 20-40 limited, and cross my fingers it will stand up to my expectations. I´m a little worried about corner IQ, but the size and WR is very appealing.

Lights under the clouds

I had waited long for this to happened. Clouds coming in the Sognefjord, and cover one of the valleys near where I live. To take a picture that shows the light from the farms through the clouds.
It is almost magical when you are in the mountains and look down on the light from civilization coming through like this.

Hi. I know there are other tools for this. But what´s nice with this app, is the composition you se on the picture I have taken is also what you se in the app since the app construct 3D landscape and can show the moon/sun path. So I could plan exactly where the moon would be compare to the mountains and terrain. You don´t risk to come to your chosen spot only to realize the moon is behind a mountain.

In landscape photography it is a good thing to know the position of the sun and moon.
An more important, how is the moon/sun positioned in the landscape.
For this purpose I use an app called "PeakFinder ar". This is an app ment to fint names of mountains. The app makes a 3D landscape based on maps, and manny mountains is named so you can fint them when out hiking.
The hidden gem in this app for landscape photographers, is that it also show the path of the moon and the sun.
You can actually chose a position on a map, and "fly" to this position and se how it renders in 3D. At this spot you can also change date and time and se where the sun/moon are compare to the landscape. This is an excellent tool to plan your picture in detail on advance.

I bought this app for fining mountains when hiking, when I found this hidden tool for landscape photographers, and think this is a nice tips to those of you who like tho capture a full moon, sun set ....................

The pictures shown is planed with this app.

Pentax 16-50mm or Pentax 24-70mm.

I would really like to have wr. I often bring my camera on hikes, and living in the west part of Norway, mens often rain and wind.
I have more than good enough optics for shiny days below 50mm (sigma 18-35mm, pentax 15mm limited, 35mm macro limited, Pentax 12-24mm), but I need optics for rainy days below 50mm. Lenses without wr is not an option. So the 16-50 would be a perfect choice if the lens actually was a star lens.

I was very satisfied with my pentax 16-85mm, but I´m very skeptic to the build quality. When the inner barrel broke, I could not understand what could have caused the brake. I´m very careful with my photo gear, and I´m 100% sure that the lens never have been smashed, kicked, fallen down etc. So my conclusion is weakness inn the construction or materials.

I know the 24-70mm is heavy, but lighter than my sigma 18-35mm or a little heavier than pentax 50-135mm.

Pentax 16-50mm or Pentax 24-70mm.

My 16-85mm lens broke after one year of use. The inner barrel broke. Normal use, no smashing around, a big mystery. So I don´t want a new one because of the build quality.

I´m looking for a new wr lens. The Pentax 16-50mm would be my first choice because of f1:2.8 and wr. But I´m concerned about build quality of the SDM and IQ. I actually bought three of these lenses, and all went back due to bad IQ.
The lens is going to be used on Pentax KP, so a good copy of 16-50mm would be perfect with my 50-135mm and 300mm.
Do someone have any suggestion how to get a good copy of this lens.

I´m looking at Pentax 24-70mm. This is bigger and heavier, designed for FF body and is a little to narrow in the short end. Looks like a great lens, but I have no plans on getting a FF body so this lens is a little to hefty for my purpose.
But I think it is better than a poor 16-50mm.
