I just got a rollei zeiss dist 25mm. Too early for me to tell if I like it.
When people talk glowingly about it I cannot tell if they are talking about the new model which I believe has a new optical formulae. From googling my 25mm model has a mixed rep among the distagons. Anyone tried or familiar with both, new and previous generation 25mm distagon.

Thought I read somewhere that the antialiasing filter was removable. Not in specs. Guess it was wishful thinking on my part

Kodaks discontinued slrs were used mainly by studio photographers. They often sell on ebay with 70k shutter acctuations. Many posts about people having models with several hundred thousand acctuations although, like a car the shutter is thought to be only good to 100k. Even now shutter is probably limiting factor in longevity
Anyone know if the sensor "ages", i.e. its sensitivity, dr or whatever is diminished with repeated use

When using an MF lens on a crop dslr do you have to make any adjustment for aperature? , i.e. if there is not enough light to take a picture at f3.5 with a 35mm lens I assume there would not be enough light for the MF lens at f3.5.

I have some pix from k100d I want to enlarge to cheer up my basement wall and sterile office. Decades ago when I last made enlargements from my pentax spotomatic I used cheap plexiglass frames. Any newer cost(co)effective approaches to hanging and protecting enlargements
I've mainly been lurking and wanted to post some photos. Not that they are that great but if I understand correctly all you have to do is have your name embeded in the photo somewhere to get some copyright protection. Is that right. Thx

You can get it for less than 100 through amazon. Has killer multicoated lens (fuji makes hasselblad lens), and was the showcase and to this day the only compact with their high dynamic range SR sensor. Relatively low megapixels but takes very detailed pictures that enlarge well. If you plug the camera name into flicker, finepix f700 photos blow away any cheap high megapixel compact.
Even though it sold for 500 it is now less than 100 through amazon vendors. It is supposed to break easily so for 150 get two. I think they fixed whatever was causing it to fail in the factory reconditioned models. I use my f700 daily with no problems.

Agree with your comments. I should have mentioned the sensor issue and the fact it has raw. In terms of the sensor failure I am hoping the refurbed models are less prone. It is so cheap I bought a spare and very cheap waterproof housing.

Look into the fuji finepix f700 refurbs on amazon. I got mine for 70 dollars. Used to be 500. Very little shutter lag, great fuji lens. So under the radar it is not even a cult camera despite better dynamic range than other compact. Low megapixels so bad for pixelpeeping. Great for printing photos.

Besides black and white why type of photos / scenes benefit most from using film rather than digital.
I am just curious to get the perspective from people who shoot both as to when they reach for film. I recently bought a zenit RF to try this myself. Thx

I have that lens too. Read somewhere a long time ago, sorry no link, that sigma at the time was manufacturing that lens for leica and selling it under its own name. Both lens had identical ratings on one of the lens sites. Wish I could remember more but I am middle aged.
Obviously, do not believe everything some crackpot posts on the web. Look what happened to Jobs/ Apple stock this week.

Any sites let visitors zoom in on photos. I took some pictures of a restaurant menu. I want to post a link on a local food forum but the text is too small to read without zooming or my cropping the photos.

Take some pictures of your wife with the lens wide open.
She will look ten years younger. Alternately, if you have children under 30 take pictures of them stoped down. J-9 will be tack sharp.
If you want to seal your fate take pictures of our wife with the lens stopped down.

If you are interested in manual focus lens there are many alternatives that are easily googled and fished on the bay (ebay).
Novoflex 400mm
Enna 400mm
Tair 3s (300mm)(was used by KGB to photograph people entering our embassies, quite heavy)
Most of the 400mm and 500mm preset lens on ebay, often dismissed as junk have an optical formula leading to very good to excellent performance as rated by Modern Photog in the 80s. This includes the preset Spiratone 400 and the current Opteka 500
Russians invented mirror lens and the current Rubinar 500mm is well regarded
Another interesting option is Tamrons adaptall telephotos mated to their custom matching teleconverter, see the following link. TAMRON 160-420mm MACRO MC SUPER-ZOOM lens: PENTAX K - eBay (item 320257071101 end time Jun-03-08 18:06:31 PDT)
And remember if you dont like a lens just toss it back in the bay.

I am guessing from the website that Eric does not work on digital cameras. I have a broken LCD. Please chime in if you know otherwise.
Anyone know a digitalized Eric. Thx

You are probably right Gooshen, does not pay to repair. It is still functional so I will probably keep to teach my kids SLR photography. Thx for the help everyone. I have seen people advertising to replace broken LCDs for other (more popular) cameras reasonably. If anyone knows of something comparable for digital pentax please post but what I am looking for probably does not exist. Thx again everyone.

LCD doesn't work. I am guessing it won't be cost effective to replace / fix. Camera is still fairly functional except I can only access the menus and review photos at home. So it will probably be relegated to back up duty whenever I upgrade.
Appreciate any suggestions. Thx

Don't get discouraged. I was just thinking the other day that if I weren't a computer geeky person who started out with photography in childhood (predigital) I would be in big trouble trying to decipher the instruction manual. Just find someone like me who can figure out most camera menus without a manual. Have them walk you through the cameras simple functions, and do not let them out of your sight, until you can do them yourself. If needed take notes. You'll be fine.
In the meantime download googles picassa program and tweak many of your photos. Start with brightness, contrast and sharpening. And remember, rule number one is to have a good time.

More people have , or have had the 135 / 3.5 and other tak lenses in the 135 ranges. Consequently the 150 gets "overshadowed". My guess

Mine's a K-mount too. Ap ring does not have an "A" setting so AFAIK you need to use the AE button.

Well it does not have a manual setting unlike my takumar primes. I prefer to meter with aperture priority. But you are right I should clarify that it does work (you do not need to shoot wide open) if you use the manual setting and hit AE button method. Thx.
And the lens does have the quality metal feel of taks FWIW mine, a TOU Five Star 75-200mm MC Auto Macro Zoom Lens, was 30 with shipping from fleabay.
