My opinion: if you go whith the 150-450, you will get best of modern technology and high end glas whith improved coatings. You will get in lens corrections, quick shift and auto-presets, so taking good pictures will be no challenge, if you know to handle a heavy lens.
Going whith FA*400 or A 400, you have to work much harder for getting equal quality, but it is fun to go this way. Yes, using my A 400 is allways a problem in harsh backlight scenes, but the lens is very, very sharp and contrasty! If I do it all right, I can't believe getting better pictures whith the 150-450! But I like to slow my work down, taking my time for every shot, no need to use lenses like a machine gun. Maybe I'm getting old....

Got a Ricoh XR 7 in 1984, liked quality overall and colour rendering of XR Rikenon 50 1.7 ( same as M 50 1.7 ) Used the Ricoh for decades but the camera came to its end on a trip through the sahara in a sandstorm. When I changed to digital DSLR, I decided to go whith Pentax for many reasons: wheather resistance, smaller body, IBIS and lots of genuine lenses out there. I have never been disappointed whith this decision! My K7 topped over from a tripod whith the K 1000 f 11 catadiopter mounted. There are dings and dents now, but all is working as usual! Tell this CanNikon!

Sorry, but I think you are wrong! Most of modern technical gear is going dead by not using it. Your car, staying in the garage most of its life is not getting better. Motors have to run and wheels have to turn. Remember sudden SDM death: arn't we told this problem is caused by disscharged capacitors? And to use the lens every two ore three weeks? Your computer is running whith a little battery for the bios. This battery will die obout six or seven years, no matter if you use the computer or not. Try to awake deep discharged electronic gear fro death, you are lucky, when it comes to life again. In Germany we say: wer rastet, der rostet! Keep on going!

Like to see the difference between the long sigma lenses and the pentax 150-450! Got two 400 primes, the M 400 5.6 and the A 400 5.6. They are great for landscape and not moving wildlife, but I am looking for an autofocus Telelens in this area. But I'am thinking if it is worth going for the 560 5.6?????

I was happy whith my K 7 for five years, now i have the K 3, and I'm really satisfied so far! How long will it get used? Maybe in five years we will have the K1 mark III. Or even better cameras from Pentax. Nobody knows the path photography goes. The future will tell!

You have to shorten the contacts on your DSLR Body! All M 42 lenses used whith the genuine M42 adapter will not shorten the contacts! Yoe have to use an adapter whith flange to cover the contacts, but you will loose infinity-focus. This will only work whith longer lenses going past infinity.

the focal lenght doesn't change, only the field of view in you image! See multiple threads about the crop factor in pentax forum. A 50 mm lens will always be a 50mm lens. This you have to tell your camera to keep shake reduction happy! See exif data of your modern lenses: 200mm is reported as 200mm aka 300mm in 35mm film equivalent!

got the Takumar 500 4.5 myself and first used it whith the genuine pentax k adapter. Stoppd down to f8 you will get good results in sharpness and less fringing in high contrast scenes. Then I switched to a cheap adapter for two reasons: first, because the genuine adapter does not shortcut the contacts on the camera's bayonett. You will have no focus trap! and second, the lens will not lock on the camera, so you have to be carefull in use.
A cheap adapter whith a ring (plate?) will shortcut the contacts and lock on the camera mount. The takumar of mine goes past infinity, so the additional mm will cause no problem!
Hope that helps!:)

Got the Takumar 55 1.8 and it is a great lens for low light photographie. Nice colours and high contrast even in difficult lightning situations. The 77 2.4 I use for portraits and landscapes. Very sharp, vera contrasty, one of my best lenses for APSC!

It uses one ED element to reduce flare and fringing. It's a good lens and will work great whith 1.4 converters from Kenko and Pentax in good light

use AV mode. I think it's better than P mode, cause you have controll of depht of field and you can benefit from the sweet spot of your selected lens.
In AV mode all you can use all lenses whitout K and M lenses.

My 1.4 HD WR TC works well on my Sigma 17-70 2.8-4 C and also on the smc 55-300! In good light I can get decent pictures whith 50-200 WR, but threre is reduced contrast at the long end and weaker colours. Whith 100 2.8 macro WR there is very little loss of sharpness!

If you are really going into macro world, you have to think about your subject you are going for. Flowers and stills and any product photographie you will get at it's best whith a lens like the 35 2.8 limited. You can get very close, but you will often have the need of additional light. Repro work, table top and botanical photographie for example. For insects and shy creatures you will need a lens around 100mm, because of the flight distance. For snakes, scorpions and any other dangerous creatures you should get a lens as long as possible. Be aware, that a 200mm macro lens is hard to find in pentax mount and will cost more than most of us will invest!

XR Ricenon lenses are equal to the M-Series lenses. Yuo will even find the white bump on the lens. They have no pin, but they are fully manual. I think, the XR 50 1.7 would be the better option. Better sharpness and colour rendering. Check the rewies in the database ( pentax M 50 1.7 and XR Rikenon 1.7 )
You will often find a 1.7 lens optical better than a 1.4 lens with the same specs.

I just wondered about the rear cap of the second lens. While the lens next to the camera has the genuine Ricoh rear lens cap, the second one has the same lens cap as one of my old takumars whith M42 to K adapter! It's an old PK rear cap, made in japan, maybe aftermarket. I got two of them with old pentax lenses.

The lens next to the camera is a 50mm Ricoh lens. Looks like my XR Rikenon 1:1.7, all the marks are indentical, same the white bump. A very good lens, similiar to the Pentax M 5o 1.7! The focussing ring has three rows of rubber knots. The camera also looks like a ricoh camera, so the second lens will likely be a k-mount lens.

One thing with the 135-600 you have to keep in mind: It is a one touch zoom and focus lens. Zooming is done by pushing the rubber coated barrel forward and backward. This will not increase the lenght of the lens. But focussing will do! While turning the barrel for focussing the lens extends and also turns the front. This is a little flaw when it comes to propper support. First i made a long lens plate of 40 cm, fixed to the tripod collar and supporting the lens near the front. But this support has to work in two directions: supporting the lens when it extends and allowing the lens to turn! Difficult to made! My solution makes focussing a bit stiff. So i changed my setup to a heavy plate of 20cm, letting the lens front free in the air and supporting the lens from the back by fixing camera and lens on one plate. This is better to handle, but i think it will cause more vibrations in my setup. You see, i am still learning to get the best out of it! It's a challenge, but i like this!
