The sky was intense this morning. I was up before sunrise and took some photos. I started with the Auto Sears/Sekor SX 55mm f1.8 that I just won on eBay for $8.50 (plus $8 shipping), but realized the scene needed a wider angle, so I changed to the Auto-Tak 35. This is the first shot that I processed, and perhaps the best one.

I had fun with a Super Tak, 28mm f3.5 on my K5 the other day. Bright sunny day, morning in the snow, little bit of flare but makes it fun :)

Two photos taken at the same time (within seconds). The first was taken with a Schneider Kreuznach Retina Curtagon 35mm f2.8 lens made in Germany in the early to mid seventies mounted on a Sony 24 megapixel DSLR, the a850. The second was taken with an Auto-Takumar 35mm f3.5 lens manufactured in Japan between 1959 and 1962 using a Sony a7II with a 24 megapixel sensor. Both lenses were set at f13 and photos were taken using aperture priority. No post processing was done. As I mentioned on an earlier flare test, the sensor has a difficulty accommodating the wide dynamic range between the sun and the darkest parts of the image so there is noise in the dark areas and the brightest parts of the sun are blown out. Post-processing can tone down highlights and boost the shadows to make a good image.
I don't think the SK lens did such a bad job. It's what you'd expect under such circumstances. The Takumar, however, produced an exceptional result.

I would accept all there decisions but not the half-frame. Even when I shoot with phone I turn it horizontally. Square frame makes more sense to me.
