Has anyone ever used a light box?

The white balance will be based on the kind of light source you use. If you use tungsten set your camera for that. For flash, set to flash and so forth.
Any light source will do. Light is light. Some cool, some warm. Or just set the camera to auto white balance. The fabric only diffuses the light. It has no effect on white balance unless it's colored something other that white. It only softens the light so it's not so harsh. It's the same material used in all the softboxes used for flash and strobes. For macro you need to get very close to the subject so you may need to move that closer to the lens opening in the cube.
I see no reason why you can't do macro if you get the lighting right.
Any number of lights will work. I would use all the same color temp for those so your white balance will be consistent. All flash, all tungsten etc.
Hope that helps.

Yes, I have used one. They are good for product photos for ebay, etc. Amazon has a good selection of them. Some come with lights and different colored backgrounds.
Mine is a neewer brand with two lights. It just pops up to a 30" x 30" cube. I think I paid about 50 dollars. Very good for still life where you want to control the lighting.
Just do a search on Amazon or other sites like B & H, ADORAMA,etc. Read the reviews and you will be informed. You can also make your own. DIYPHOTOGRAPHY may show you how. They are basically a box made from light diffusing material that you can shine light thru for soft lighting.. They have an opening to stick your camera lens thru to take the shot.

Probably. Just stuck it in here since it is a lens. Didn't know about a price watch section. Someone can move it. I don't know how.

How Can I Practice Flash Photography?

I use a Styrofoam wig head to practice on. I got this hint from Bowens TV on youtube. Just paint it a neutral grey with maybe some sparkle paint to show highlights when using the flash. It will show shadow details and such. I have mine mounted on a lightstand but you can set it on anything to get it up to where you need it. If you have one light/flash you need to get it off camera to explore the light patterns. There are many resources for where to place the light to get some very good results.
And the plastic head never gets tired of fooling with you. I think I paid 3 bucks for one on Amazon. That way you can have everything set up at the same location a real head will be, or pretty close. Then your model won't get bored. You can easily move the head around for different light sources such as some window light plus flash. Very handy.

This flash is the same as many others that are rebranded, i.e. Godox, NeewerTT850. etc. Yes there are batteries in the transmitter. 2 aa's.
I bought from Cheetah because of the reliable support. A little more but worth it I think. It is a very impressive system. This is touted to be the first with lion batteries. I was surprised by that. Why did this take so long?

This flash has a rechargeable lion battery so the batt isn't an issue. Nice to have. I think I can use the cam flash if I use the V85 off camera.

I think I can do that with my transmitter for the cheetah. The flash has a receiver on the side that talks to the transmitter. The transmitter sits on the hotshoe.

The cheetah will also trigger from the onboard flash so I can use that to trigger the cheetah and also get some additional light from the camera with a diffuser.
At least I think I can, haven't tried that yet.

Thanks a lot DD. I did that and it pops right into 1/180. I hoped it would be something simple.
This should help others as well. I never see that mentioned in anywhere else.
That fixes my problem.
I would be nice to here what others do to keep from going over 1/180 in flash mode.

Maybe I'm missing something but I am unable to directly dial in a 1/180 shutter speed on my K-3. I wanted to set that for shutter priority when I use flash so I don't go over the sync speed set by Pentax. I can get 1/160 but the next setting is 1/200. No 1/180. Is this something that just gets set when using flash and is not a general choice?
What I want to do is to make sure I don't go over the limit. Maybe there is another way to do this other that shutter priority. I'm still learning so be gentle.

Pentax Doomed™!!! Give your reasons why you think this is so.

Your original question was "why you think Pentax is doomed?"
I didn't before reading thru this thread.
I thought this forum was meant to support us users.
Anyway, I don't think it is doomed. I researched the hell out of a good high end dslr
before buying the K-3. I waded thru all the propaganda that spews out against Pentax
and still bought the K-3.
It's not a popularity contest for me. I like my decision.
It will take some time to quiet all the doubters.
All that is needed is good advertisement of which Pentax has none.

K-3 flash set-up second or more opinions

Sounds like the set-up I need for what I want to do.
I took a look at the neewer stuff you linked to. They look like
knock -offs. I think neewer makes a lot of those for wongyuo
including the flash.
I know there is probably better set-ups out there but at these price points
and the fact that I am only a hobbyist I think this is more that adequate.
Get some reflectors, etc. and I am on the road to greatness,
Maybe
Thanks for the help.

Thanks Mr. B
Good to know I'm on the right track.
Do I really need the hot shoe receiver? What does that buy me exactly?
I think that gets me away from the optical trigger but not sure.

K-3 flash set-up second or more opinions

I have selected a tentative flash system for my K-3 that I would like as many opinions as possible so I can feel better about it.
Here it is:
YN560-11 FLASH UNIT
COWBOYSTUDIO NPT-04 HOT SHOE RECIEVER
COWBOYSTUDIO NPT-04 1 TRIGGER AND 2 RECIEVERS

I don't know if the hot shoe receiver is necessary ( explain what it's for if possible)
It seems that most everyone gets that when they order the triggers from amazon anyway.
I picked the yn560-11 since I won't be using the yn triggers.
I just want a simple system that I can do off camera flash and not rely on the optical
trigger from the on-cam flash.
I will have a remote to fire the shutter.
Will all this play well together.
I am open to an alternate package so fire away.

Ah yes. From the mind of Minolta. It's a shame they couldn't hang in there. They had excellent gear. I wonder if my old lenses will fit on the new K3. Probably not. Maybe there is an adapter out there.

Hello everyone. After an exhaustive search I have determined that the new k3 is head and shoulders over the competition.
I come from an old Minolta srt101 and am finally getting into digital. I looked at all the competing brands and reviews and kept coming back to the Pentax. I had gotten beat up with the Canon/Nikon crowd to get one of those. My conclusion is that Pentax was out of the loop for most people until you get into the user reviews. Most of them were scratching their heads at how good this camera is.
So bottom line is I think I have a winner with the F3. I ordered it from the Pentax store for 1649$. It comes with the 18-135 lens and the battery grip. I think that is a great deal. What do you guys think. I almost pulled the trigger at Amazon until I researched the dealer and found they were not an authorized one (phew!) So be careful out there folks. Also I am looking for some must have accessories for this camera and a good place to get them. The Pentax store seems to have good prices and real Pentax stuff. Your opinions will be appreciated.
So, here I am.
