I've got moderately moderated last time and it's been a rough weekend (that 16-50.. it does Things to you, dangerous things!), so I hope I got it right: squirrels, preferably weird[ish] looking ones, in this thread, so here is a cross post:

the troll face was there for a reason ;), that nifty fifty is a really nice lens (and unbeatable for its price, which also is a nice bonus).

I officially nominate Tervete (Latvia) as the official capital of Pentax.
I was in Tervete Nature Park last Saturday, and besides my K3 I saw at least 3 other Pentaxes :O

it's the moments like these, when we can just start to grasp the mere idea about hociR's astonishingly devious plans..
the foil hat will not help! the brainwaves will enter your brain through the eye! and the foil hat will reflect them back! into your brain again!!

at times I wonder, is there really a cure? a salvation? is there a single hope left for the humanity? And.. I'm not so sure anymore.

about the fog lights - please use them when there's FOG! :D, and I mean "where exactly am I? Is this still a road?" sort of fog, not "it looks like a bit of a haze" type.
rear fog lights are bright, near the levels of brake lights bright, and they are annoying as [insert expletive here], if used any other time but during the thickest, densest fog imaginable.

UPD: just figured a good way to evaluate the necessity to turn on the rear fog lights - when the fog or snow, or rain is so heavy that you're getting blinded by your own high beams - that's probably a good time to use them :)

I haven't yet worked out my point/opinion on "useless information". I mean, the boundary between useless and useful is thin at times; yeah, there may be facts and bits and pieces of info, that rarely get used; but then, no one really knows the capacity of our brain to hold the information. General consensus seems to be that the capacity is limited, and that the limit can be reached, although there are theories stating that people remember everything but they just don't have access to that info - or at least the access is not an easy one.
knowing and learning those "useful facts" is a workout for brain and that is a good thing.
OTOH, what helps us to be more productive - knowing the facts, or having good skills in searching. Of course, we're not always "connected", but this becomes less and less of a problem.
OK, here's a sort of definition, then: "useful information" is information, that has high potential in helping us to survive and thrive, when there's no access to the information storage of any kind.

I wouldn't think of camera gear as investment - unless you're going to earn some money with it, or sell it for profit; this is a nice example of wrong idea being successfully fed to the public by the credit organizations: the house is an investment, the car is an investment, the photo gear is an investment. it isn't, unless, as I said, you're going to sell it for profit, you use it to make money (which has to be more than the price of the thing) or if it helps you spend less than you would otherwise. the rest - it's an expense. if this is a hobby, we're just buying ourselves a tool to convert money units into joy. no one would say, that s/he is investing in a glass of wine. but this is an offtopic.

As for the original theme - it's sad, but how many of us have bought something in the store lately? for the past .. 9 years, the idea hasn't crossed my mind. but then again, that's just me.

I really like the colors on (in? me no speak Engrish!) one above the footsteps (seagull) - those blues remind me of film days, Fuji, in particular, and now I sound old.

wellll, let's see
Terminal velocity = Sqrt((2 * mass * g) / (air density * projected area * drag coeff))
Mass = 1.5kg (w/ batteries)
g =9.8
air density at +25*C (there's no point to experiment in the cold) - about 1.18kg/m3, humidity and change of t* depending on height are not taken into account

dimensions: 0.156 * 0.117 * 0.123m
for our purposes, let's round it to cube: .125 x .125 x .125
technically, the projected area changes all the time (rotation during the fall), but for our scientific purposes, let's assume, that it is falling down with one edge pointing downwards, so we have 2 sides projected at 45 degree angle.
Formula is: L x H * cos(angle) = .125*.125*cos(45) * 2 (since 2 sides are projected) = 0.022 m2 (cos(45) = .71)
drag coefficient for a cube is 0.8 (wiki it)

so, the result:
terminal velocity in air for 645Z = sqrt((2*1.5*9.8) / (1.18 * .022 * .8)) = 37.62m/s = 135.4km/h = 84.2mph

No. 645z can't do 150mph :(
