Yes, you can send pictures to your phone with the Pentax wifi memory card. This will also work with the K-r. The eye-fi wifi card is a cheaper option, but the Pentax card offers remote control for the k-3 and newer cameras.

Are all issues in North America and no power switch issues in Europe?
Looks like a single bad batch went there...

I did also various flash tests today with my Pentax flash. It worked flawless. Next time I will try my Metz.
Very pleased with the k3II. Also shake reduction is working MUCH better than on my k-x.

Got my camera slightly less than 2 hours ago and played a little with it. Battery is on the charger now.
First and only issue till now:
My wife looked in the shipping box and shouted: "Hey, they sent you the wrong camera, it's a Ricoh!?"

I would be (a little) worried if the lcd did not turn off, but it does so the firmware IS signalled.
My old k-x is also really never asleep. The card led lits up when a memory card is inserted with the power switch off.

I will get my k3-II today but firmware errors do not worry me.
I am sure the gps crash and other bugs will be fixed and the fact that the first firmware has some errors (even if the camera is very similar on the outside to the k3) do not surprise me.
The hardware has to be shipped as soon as possible (with a firmware version the engineers would rather not ship) by ANY brand so if no major hardware issues arise (Nikon stained sensor, Pentax string of pearls, etc) I'll be happy.

Thanks for all the feedback!
Just ordered the K3-II body. Think I'll really enjoy using it!

I am considering buying a k3ii and wonder if I should combine it with either the 18-50 or the 16-85 (because of the kit discount) or buy just the body.
Currently I have a k-x (which I love but I want the astrotracer and lower noise for astro photography) and I have some good glass: eg Samyang 14, da12-24, da35 macro, tamron 28-75, fa77, sigma105 macro and da50-135. My da18-250 is also a very good copy.
The only thing missing is a wide/standard WR lens, but to be honest I have not really missed WR capability.
Silent focussing could be a potential advantage too.
The original plan was to wait for a future Pentax FF with probably a 24-105/4 WR kit lens (at least wait for the detailed specs), but the k3ii prices are very reasonable. The hypothetical 24-105 would also be nice on a k3, so I tend to go for just a k3ii body.
What do you think, would the silent WR 18-50 kit lens be a waste of money? I already have two 18-55 non WR kits on my shelve.
I would like the 16-85, but that would mean that my primes and da50-135 see less usage. It is also not a FF lens
Thoughts from the forum members would surely help in the decision process.
-- edit --
Just discovered that the k3ii is only available with the old 18-55WR kit, or the 18-135 or the 16-85.
So the silent 18-50 is not a cheap option :hmm:
I guess that makes my choice easier

I like it! Good job.
I agree with the suggestion that slowing it down would probably improve the experience.

I do not know if DCU can split the DNG, but the standard dcraw can do that (dcraw -s all ABC.DNG), you will get 4 processed files.
What is in those files depends on the parameters. You can feed these files to PhotoAcute.
Ok, i did a dcraw + darktable conversion on the 6400 ISO image from imaging resource
(and donated 5$ because of their excellent DNGs :-)
dcrawps32.exe -v -4 -T -X -G 100 K32hSLI06400_HR.DNG
results in quite a respectable stacked TIFF.
Or use:
dcrawps32.exe -v -4 -T -X -G 100 -w K32hSLI06400_HR.DNG
for camera white balance (I probably should have used this instead).
These parameters are also good for creating PhotoAcute files.
PP with darktable results in this jpeg, similar to the OOC jpeg image http://www.v7f.eu/public/pentax/K32hSLI06400_HR-dcraw-darktable.jpg ---------- Post added 06-02-15 at 04:18 PM ----------
100% crops:
The first is OOC, note that all detail in the red fabric is missing?

I'll just use the number of embedded raw images (4) to detect the PS DNG...

Yep, I will start with a non messing implementation. ---------- Post added 05-29-15 at 03:10 PM ----------
That is not for me to decide.
It depends on the original dcraw author (Dave Coffin) if he is willing to adopt the code for this special Pentax feature.
I could use some help in detecting a PS DNG file.
Is there an exif hint which makes it clear that PS was active?
I could use the filesize (>100megabyte) as a hint, but that is less elegant.

Yes, noise is an issue, but my proposal is more simple to implement. Advanced analyses will not be made a part of the standard dcraw code, I'm afraid.
Ofcourse everyone is welcome to write his own smarter code.
I would trigger the movement detection with a threshold, eg when the two green readouts differ by 10%

I will adapt dcraw for Pentax PS dng to 16 bit Tiff.
I have no interest in linear Dng but I do not know if Adobe software can convert Tiff to linear dng.

Summary:
A DNG contains 4 exposures in the normal raw representation, each 24mpixel.
If a raw development program can open the DNG (not all can) then you can process the first capture in the normal way. The last 3 captures are simply ignored. This can be handy if the processed PS data has artifacts from movement.
To gain access to the full processed PS data you have to convert with the Pentax DCU software to TIFF 16, until software developers adapt their programs.
In camera TIFF conversion results in TIFF-8, I see no use for those files.

I am considering to adapt the dcraw program so that it can convert Pentax k3ii Pixel Shift shots and I would like some feedback on the possibility of removing artifacts caused by subject movement.
The green channel is captured twice, so the idea is to detect motion by comparing the brightness of each matching pixel in these two green exposures. If they differ then the subject has changed and on that location the normal bayer interpolation is used.
Could that work?

I have the same problem with my K-x but it is memory card related.
Sandisk works fine but another brand doesn't.
When I eject the memory card BEFORE I remove the battery all is fine.
Could you test that?

That IS a very nice feature!
Would not mind that in Raw+ mode instead of/in addition to the jpeg satellite file.
