thanks for the replies! Yeah, the fiddle heads were coming up right in front of a recess in the side of a small cliff. It worked well to provide a black background as it was in shadow while the fiddle heard was in the sunlight.
Thanks,

Just came in the mail today, had it set up in about 30 mins. I had to go out and buy a dedicated stand for it because it's so freaking huge but it's been awesome so far! I did a few test prints on 8.5x11 high gloss and was happy with the results right off. I did prepare quite a bit as far as researching settings etc. so the prints from LR would come out well. So far super happy with it!

Interesting shots and it certainly is a simple solution. Just out of curiosity however, what iso were you shooting at? There seems to be a considerable amount of noise in every image. It's not necessarily horrible, but i think it would make these shots a lot nice if there was less noise overall.

I would say you did a fine job of showcasing the car for the most part. I'm partial as a GC8 owner so these might look better to me than to the others but I would say they look fine. You might want to up your exposures a bit and punch these up to further define the car as the main subject matter but other than that your good i think. Is this your car? NASIOC member?

This is an HDR capture processed in photomatix pro. The sun was coming up behind me while I was shooting and when I turned around I saw this scene and acted quickly to capture it. The bracketed images didn't do this scene justice hence the choice for a mild HDR treatment. I think the representation is spot on now to what I saw first hand. I am aware of the small black dot above the tree but just don't have the time to re-upload at the moment!
Enjoy

thanks for the comments and i took care of all the recommendations that you mentioned... The skewed horizon actually is a result of an uneven fog bank moving across. The horizon itself had it been clear out would actually have been more than half way up the frame. i may reorient for appearance' sake though.
thanks again!

It was quite foggy here in the Lower Hudson Valley of NY this morning. This is a shot looking north up the river.
i haven't calibrated my monitor. It looks contrasty on mine but forgive me if it appears a bit muddy on yours!!
QC welcome.

This is a nice shot but it looks a bit over saturated for my liking. Certainly if it makes you happy then keep it but generally it's a good idea to not boost the saturation to the point that you lose detail in the object.

Pentaxpoke could be on to something here. i would just set sharpness at zero and take care of the noise as you see fit during post processing.

I don't know, that 100% crop of the shed is pretty rough. i agree, shoot with top glass and reevaluate. The images shouldan't be so noisy, rarely at 100 iso have I seen noise with my k20 close to that degree. Might be a bad copy or inadequate cooling of the sensor... I would send it in; it's a hassle but for that kind of cash you should't settle.

I have had the K20 for about half a year. I upgraded from an old ist DL. I was out last night shooting some fireworks and I took a look at the photos today and i have to say, although im in love with my new camera and am well versed in avoiding noise every way possible... compared to some photos I use to take with the DL...the K20's not much better when it comes to controlling noise in some situations. It may be a result of higher resolution etc. but looking back at nighttime photos from my ist dl, the noise just isn't as noticeable at all..
Anyone have similar experiences? I shot last night almost wide open at iso 100 and only exposures up to about 50 seconds...

I had the same problem with my ist DL. i was out shooting one day, cleaned some water off the viewfinder and i noticed the smudging/scratching on there that hadn't been before. Theres nothing that will take it off as it is actually the surface of the viewfinder that has been damaged. What i did was I called pentax and asked them to send me an exploded view parts diagram of my camera (which they did and which i posted on this forum along with the k200d diagram. both can be found in a search of my threads) I found the part i needed which was just the viewfinder "glass" (it's plastic on that camera) and I had them send me one. It only cost 12 bucks! I undid all of the screws I could find on top of the camera and the top came right off. Two little screws home the viewfinder in place which is enclosed in a sort of capsule. Pop it out, toss in the new one. and replace. Thats all it took, I never had a problem with it again and it probably saved me the service fees which would have cost into the hundreds. If you are somewhat handy you could easily do the same fix. I havent done it on your specific model but I cant see the design being much different. I say give it a shot.
Good luck,
Owen

make sure that when you dropped it onto your memory card, you didn't place it in any sub folders etc. Simply open the card and place the file in the first box that pops up. It should work then. I made that mistake once.
Good luck

Dosdan,
99 is the limit and the camera does enter a dormant state which is awsome, kudos to the production team for factoring that in or the battery issue would negate any benefit of using the internal intervalometer. I used it last night for a simpe flower bloom and it worked great. I did an interval of 5 mins but I think you can go up to quite a bit of time. I don't have my camera handy but I think the interval can be quite large.
Good luck with it, its pretty fun to mess around with!
