I arrived a day early before the rest of our group, took a nap, and then walked around for these pictures. I was glad I did, because the rest of the trip it was foggy out.

Catalina Island this weekend. I took 3 lenses, but ended up using the 35mm Macro DA Limited almost exclusively. It's hard to take a bad picture here. AND it's totally worth getting out at 5:30am to get that sunrise, as you all know. I took 361 pictures in 3 days. That's probably a record for me! :) I had a wonderful time, too.

WOW! So who needs a flash (I was very reticent about giving up my on-camera flash) when you can take such clear, sharp pictures in dim light? The picture of the small brown dog is a dark dog on a dark floor in a dim room. There is no retouch on this at all. JPG format, direct upload. Now to find out where the raw format on this is. I may shoot JPG for a while to get back in practice and then use the RAW button. Not sure yet.
Oh is this going to be FUN! Here's Remy. Remy by Susan, on Flickr

No flash, no retouch. Used my trusty tank, the 100mm Macro. |

I have wanted a K-3 for years now, and this week I finally ordered the K-3 II, using a gift certificate at B&H. It arrives this afternoon. It will be quite a step up from my K5, and will probably be my main camera for years and years. It's probably more camera than I need, but I am so excited.
I put my batteries on the chargers so I could have power and be ready to go when I un-box it.
This last year has been crazy with a move to a new house, so I have not been around much. Now I'm settled and I'm ready to get back out there shooting. My new house has a pond in the neighborhood, plus lots of nice walking areas. Stay tuned for lots of pictures.

The camera club I belong to is quite friendly. I love to watch the competitions because it's like a travelogue. I didn't do so well but I think it was as much subject matter as anything else. My Nevada desert pictures were in competition with photos from Hawaii and other places. I loved my red rocks and clear blue sky. Others loved the oceans. I didn't let it get to me, though.
My latest batch of photos are of foggy, misty Seattle. I doubt they'll do well in competition either.
But the socialization is really nice. The programs have been very good. One was by an NBA photographer and how he takes his pictures of the Oklahoma Thunder. He talked about gear and how the cameras are set up and taped to the clear backboard, or under the base of the basket pole. Those are all set off by remote. Then he also has cameras he hand held to take other pictures. It was fascinating.
Then there was a journalist who used a 10 year old Nikon to take pictures of 100+ year old Oklahomans for a book she published at the Oklahoma centennial. Her photos were amazing. She had no idea what gear she used. She said she had two lenses, a long one and a short one. Didn't stop her from beautiful portraits.
So this is the only camera club I've experienced, but it's been very positive all around. I'm not that much of a competitor, but I do love to see other people's work.

The camera club I go to has 1 other Pentaxian, but the rest are Nikon vs Canon. Those folks are constantly ribbing on each other but all in fun. There are contests, and I love to watch everyone's photos and listen to the commentary. I don't like to enter the competitions myself. They are a fun bunch of people. They meet twice a month and the first month is a program by an invited guest or one of the members, and the second meeting is competition night. The competitions alternate from digital image to print.

For macro work I use the DA 35mm/2.8 Limited. Lovely lens.
Also for even closer work, the FA 100/2.8 Macro - I seem to be using this one more and more. It's a tank and I love it. I have been using it indoors a lot to take pictures of my handmade jewelry.
Both of these I bought used here on the Marketplace.
For travel I usually take my Tamron 16-300 and the DA 15/4 Limited. The Tamron is not a great lens, and I intend to replace it with the DA 50-300 sometime this year. I want to get the Tamron 17-50 for a wide angle zoom.
When I'm driving around close to home, I take just about everything... :)

I LOVE the idea of the K-S1 and lime green is my favorite...
...but the price drop on the K-3 has put it in my "willing to spend money on it" range... plus I have a B&H gift certificate that's beginning to burn a hole in my pocket.

How did it feel in your hands? How did the grip feel? I have been looking at some side by side comparisons and the grip is a bit smaller. Not that that is a bad thing with my small hands, but I wonder how stable it feels when you hold it. I wish I could pick one up and investigate it myself.
