Can't really offer advice different than those already provided, but will offer you good luck and enjoy getting back into Pentax!

KP for now, but I am very much looking forward to the K3II replacement in 2020...

Though I will probably keep the KP for it's small size.

I agree, the silver one is gorgeous, and image quality is outstanding.

However, I don't consider the battery grip to be that expensive at $198 compared to about $220 for that of the K-5/3/or3II. And you are in no way limited to the largest standard grip, it is just as that it is the standard grip that properly joins onto the body of the battery grip to make it as one continuous handle. The battery grip is basically for the purposes given above. Upon removal, you can choose whichever of the 3 grips that come with the camera. If you do not require or want the advantages the battery grip affords, fine. But it is nice to have that option, and at a combined weight of a K-3II alone.

The K3’s faster burst & bigger buffer could be relative to how the camera is used. I have both, and used the k3 burst mode more than I do with the KP because I find it has much better first time autofocus accuracy. Meaning that feel more comfortable without using multiple frame bursts in many occasions. The KP is lighter and fits in tighter spaces.

you could look at spending a little money first and rent one or the other to do your own trial -

if you are looking for used equipment, I have always had good luck with the forum's marketplace which can be sorted by country:

Have happily owned and shot my K-3 for more than five years now, but for the improved high-ISO capabilities alone, I would readily swap it in for a KP, even if that meant giving up the K-3's superior ergonomics and slightly better build. But more likely, I will wait for the upcoming APS-C flagship, which will likely give me the best of both worlds, and maybe a bit more.

KP all the way. I love my K3 but the KP image quality is better. The only down side for me is battery life, but if you buy a couple of decent spares you are golden. I personally wouldn't get the battery grip because it is ridiculously expensive and limits you to the large grip, which I don't really care for

How many APSC shooters will truly upgrade to K1

I would but my main cams are mirrorless. I only use the dslr for sports pretty much and am set with numerous Pentax dslr's. DSLR's are too big for stealth use. Yes I can use em but why make it hard on myself? If I was a average photog looking for a FF dlsr I'd be all over the FF Pentax. This does not say I'd never buy one. When my K3's die I will upgrade but I suspect mine will last for the rest of my life.

This pix (candid) would be hard to take with a dslr. I used a Fuji E-X1.

The hard part is carrying the dslr on your wrist all day and night. The other part is shooting kids. Nowadays your sexual predictor if your a male shooting stranger kinds. I need stealth!

I used a Nikon D610 for this candid...

It was hard to do. I hated using the Nikon, very bulky compared to the Leica or Fuji. Hard to adjust. I can adjust the Leica and Fuji to a lesser dergee without even looking at them. But, I am highly skilled at candid work and still got 'Pinky' done with the dlsr. I would have rather have used a Leica, but I was traveling and had no place safe to keep the Leica gear so I used cheap Nikon gear.

The other prob with the Pentax as with almost all dslr's is the program dial. I hate em. I like a shutter speed dial. The cams they make nowadays are dummied down with no aperture ring or shutter dial. The AF is terrible in dim light. I prefer manual control for the type of work I do.

I could never get candid shots like this with auto equipment and big dlsr's.

What I wish for is some camera co to make an affordable Leica rangefinder knockoff and a manual M4/3. I love the M4/3, but the terrible controls ruin it for fast candid work. By the time I could get the M4/3 adjusted this shot would be gone. (Actually I can't figure out how to even adjust the M4/3.)

Shot near The Blue eye. With no macro lens available I had to use the 16-85mm lens. This is a cropped shot of two dragonflies "doing it".

I went from a K-5II to a K-3 and after a couple of weeks sold the K-3 and bought a new K-5IIs.

K-3 is a great camera and the extra features were all very nice but I just felt that it lacked the dynamic range and ISO performance of my old K-5II so it had to go and back came a new K-5II(s). I'm a lot happier now;

Abstract Post-apocalyptic

Hi guys,

month ago, I bought my 1st DSLR, Pentax K-50 and few days ago I went out to practice with my friend. We went to the old, half abandoned industrial zone near the city Kladno in Czech Republic where we both grow up and I took this pic. and it, in my opinion, looks quite nice with a little bit of post-processing. Has this post-apocaliptic feel.

Anyway, have fun shooting.

Cheers,
