I've heard from our reliable sources here in Northern Ontario that the store is overstocked in Stale Dated FujiFilm Disposables.;)

No problems I used very heavily in the 80's Takumars & Pentax Lenses with K1000's down to -30 C . Outside humidity in Northern Ontario very low and inside even lower in winter so no moisture problems. some times light meter battery would freeze up when out for extended perods. I actually worry more about my DSLR gear now because of batteries and electronic contacts throughout.

The photo of James Kerrison my Grand Father was taken in Australia when he was serving in the Royal Navy ( Days of Wind) As a Killick then. It was is a hand coloured black & white and survived the trip home to England , a fire there and eventually to Port Arthur ( now Thunder Bay) . The colour is still good and it is an Oval Shape (16 " high)mounted in an Oval Frame ( I dont know if it is original - the frame). He was 13 years old when he joined the Navy on the Island of St Helena where he was born(where Napoleon was incarcerated & interred) and honorably discharged at 36 (23 Year Career in the Navy). Had more careers after including a London Bobby on the East India Dock section of London. A book could be written on him alone. God Bless all Who serve in the defense of our Freedom
Regards Bruce

Pre-emptive set up for a lot of movement on both ends ! Air Shows & Auto Race movement is predictable in most cases ;Critters & People movement is not in most cases . You certainly don't want to be changing lenses or anything for that matter in a Zodiac on the high Seas. I use a t/c with my 55-300 PLM all the time for birds & critters when cruising in my 4X4 especially if there is a lot of open areas where i'm going. i like to pre set TAv shutter at least 1000/sec f8 and max the ISO 1600(depending on available light). Very seldom do you have the luxury of changing lenses ISO f stops or shutter speeds. My only exception was this Lynx who posed for me and then sent me a bill for "Sitting Fees";)

Thank you Boriscleto. Do you know if it is hard to adapt to K mount or even possible? The flanges look similar to a K mount but the aperture tabs do not.

Some clarification for those that don't speak CANADIAN Des the "e" is silent on Bruce and its pronounced Honey "Booh" "Booh" not "Boooo" "Booo". It all has to do with disguising my identity and confuse those nasty Russian Hackers and others so they can't touch my privates. I often use disguises as well on these Social Sites.;)

Photos to show what you're talking about. How Unique on this forum. Thanks swanlefitte;)
I get greater distance to the target with the crop & with the 55-300PLM & sometimes the 1.4 TC. I'm after the story that I see and I want the picture even if it is imperfect and this combo gives me the opportunity to get closer & to get it without being burden with a hugh amount of equipment. The IQ is usually excellent and there is always a chance of motion distortion on both ends .
I have 2 pictures on a recent Post : "Thoughts about using Pentax 1.4x HD PENTAX-DA AF Rear Converter AW" that show something similar. Both shots are cropped extremely. I have shots on My Flickr of Eagles Aerial Combat & grabbing Salmon out of the river mouth. Both shot in very poor light but with the combo Lens & Crop I got the Photos. I have other aerial shots that are bang on with light & the same combo. I need the flexibility of the 55-300PLM & cropping to catch the unpredictable flight & distance of these magnificant Raptors.:) These are all Hand held out of the window of my Truck.

What Is Up With K1000 Prices?

The K1000 was popular and still is because it was so simple and dependable. You did have to know light & exposure though no free rides. That's why it was used in teaching so much. The only auto was the light meter and it was bang on. I used 4 of them commercially back in the 80's ;that was my auto ISO. A long with my Bronika ETR and ME Super with winder which didn't see much action especially when Ektar 125 film came out. I used them for Commercial , Industrial , Aerial , Weddings and Portraiture shooting. You could bang nails with them. I dropped my Bronika in a church wedding one time and it cost me $400.00 in 1980 $$$$ that never happened with the K1000, I kept them in the trunk of my car a lot of the time. It was especially good for multiple exposures because it was so well built that I used in slide presentations. I Finally sold my guys a couple of years ago and I trust that they are still banging away. Average price $70 USD.

These are from the film days 1991 I believe Duluth Air Show . I used the pre-focus method @ Infinity (K1000 Ektar 125 back then)on a snug down tripod , picked up the aircraft at distance and followed them in through the view finder and started shooting when they started enlarging in the view finder. Same method can be used now with digital with more tools . Made sure that I was far enough away that I would not over flow the view finder. Didn't have to re-focus and it was locked in on infinity just concentrated on the action of the planes. The last shot is the bonus for using the pre-focus method. Followed them in and forgot about the Hydro wires to my left. Could not in a billion tries get the tail hooks or the wheels to line up like they did. Tried to get a ride from the Navy sent them a copy with a caption under it "I know how you guys do the Aerobatics without bumping into each other-- You run on WIRES strung out in the sky. Didn't work!

They fly in relatively predictable lines- birds do not . So you have to engineer a solution to keep the focus on

No magic the lens has to have some detail to focus on and the detail has to be in the focusing area you have chosen to use. I have never had a miss if my spot or my 9 point has hit the target. If it misses the target then it hunts briefly and goes to a neutral focal point until I give it something to focus on again ( I Will pre-pick something big @ infinity so I can quickly get general focusing back) . Thats with my HD 55-300 WR , HD 55-300 WR PLM & Sigma APO DG 150-500 . Thats clear sky, snow , water etc all have to have some kind of detail and depending on the quality of your equipment how little detail is needed and how fast it will focus that will determine "In Focus". Pentax & Sigma are excellent in my opinion. Low light is my only problem and I'm not willing to spend Tens of Thousands of dollars to buy a fast telephoto. Besides 8 times out of 10 I can work around low light anyways.

---------- Post added 10-02-18 at 09:54 PM ----------

The only time that happens to me is in really low light. Maybe something wrong with your lenses. I use back focus all the time so infinity on distant subjects locks in and doesn't reset every time I push the shutter button. I confirm every chance I can lock in on the target without losing focus . (works about 9 of 10 times)

I had the same happen to me both with the HD WR & HD WR PLM even with back focus. You either have to broaden the focal area or pre-focus on infinity or a particular point. The camera is not able to focus on sky and it takes you & the camera a split second before you hit the target 9.9 times out of 10 on spot focus.
