I followed photogem's instructions and it was quite easy to do. I bought a solenoid off of ebay for $50 so still a good deal but I believe someone sells them here in the forums for $30 shipped. I fairly handy and regularly replace phone and laptop parts so I didn't hesitate to do the work. I also have a soldering iron and small tools so it didn't cost me anything extra. IMO $100 is a good deal if you don't have the patience, tools, time, or confidence to do the repair yourself.

I think B&W really does justice to this scene. Great shot.

Yes, pun intended. I'm looking forward to using my new lens.

I agree with that. I'm pretty much a beginner but the 50mm on the APS sized camera isn't nearly the same experience I had with 50mm on a 35mm film SLR. It isn't nearly as useful, IMVHO.

Count me in. I bought a 50mm f1.8 lens but I'm not happy with the "1.5x magnification" that the APC sized sensor gives me. The the K-50 is my first DSLR but back when I had a Minolta (a few decades ago) my 50mm f1.4 was on the camera the vast majority of the time. And now that I can easily crop, the 31mm could be in the same category.

Yes, I believe you are looking for an Eye-Fi card. You can set it up to automatically transfer every photo to the smartphone or just selected photos and/or folders. I received a card as a gift but honestly haven't used that feature much. I had a hard time getting the individual transfer feature to work and I assume I just don't understand the UI.

I just bought the same kit a few months ago and so far so good. However, I don't have your experience so I'm sure you'll get a lot more of it than I will.

Hi gmiyamoto, I certainly look forward to your photos. I've been to Maui twice with my family and we really love it there. Hopefully, one day, someone I know will live there (I'm mostly hoping that it is me) so I can visit. :)

Hi, my name is Steve and I just bought a K-50 to replace my lost Nikon 5700.
I really liked the Nikon but it was due for a replacement anyway.
Ages ago I had a Minolta XG-1 that I fumbled around with. The only think automatic on it was the light meter but all the settings were manual. I enjoyed learning about photography with that camera and I had a few good shots here and there but mostly I have always been a noob. Hopefully that will change now. I've enjoyed the K-50 so far and just ordered the DA 50mm f1.8 lens to augment my two kit zooms. I have a Nikon SB-800 that works, at least in manual mode, with the K-50 so I have a decent amount of equipment. The rest is up to me I guess.
I look forward to lurking and learning here on the pentaxforums.com.
Thanks,
Steve
