Thanks for the advise all, I'm going to back up, slow down, and play with what I have for a while. I do have a polarizing filter and a tripod. I'm sure I'll catch some good stuff, by my amateur eye anyhow. Lol

Thanks for the responses. I guess I thought there was more to 'wide angle' than focal length, like lens shape. As you guys suggest, I'll stick with the 18 for now. Wider would be fun to play with, but as a casual photographer at this point, I'm not looking top drop another $300+. Too many other hobbies to support! I did get a tripod I can hike with, so I think I'll get some good stuff.

Guys, please help a rookie out. I just graduated from point and shoot and got my first DSLR. I have a k-50 with the kit 18-55mm & 50-200mm. I'm learning when I can, but lenses are still a foreign language to me.
I'm going to the Tetons for vac soon and I'm interested in landscape shots. I've been taking notes on landscape tips, but I think I want a cheap used wider angle lens to play with($50-$75ish). I'm fine with no zoom, prob even manual focus. I notice a lot of 28mm lenses on eBay in that price range, and anything lower looks $$. Will those get me wider than my 18-55? It's what I want attainable for that price range? I'm lost, lol! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the thing is that it does it constantly. I'm usually in Av, and I've taken pictures that were fine....still flashing. in Auto...still flashing.

My first question....many more to come.
I tried to find this in the manual and in the forums with no luck. On my K-50 why do the settings on the status page, aperture, shutter speed, etc, flash?
I told you it was a dumb question!
Thanks guys!

Hello everyone,
I'm the proud owner of my first DSLR, a K-50. Having been a casual point and shoot user all my life, I'm realizing there is A LOT to learn! I'm trying to take it one step at a time and not get overwhelmed. As a newbie, reading a couple of threads about lenses is kind of like trying to read a foreign language. I aspire to be better than just using full auto with my kit lenses, and I know it will be a marathon rather than a sprint to get there. I'm sure it will be fun along the way.
Living in Florida, I'm always running across really cool birds. Every time I'd see a beautiful wading bird standing in a picturesque reedy marsh I told myself 'I need to get a good camera one of these days, that would make a great shot'. I'm also lucky enough to spend a few days a month in the Colorado Rockies, seeing beautiful landscapes, wildlife, and sunrises daily. Those were my inspirations, and learning to capture them is my aspiration.
Thanks in advance for the help and support I'm sure I'll get here,
Chris
