Don't discount the HD coating. It should do a good job with flare and give the colors that little extra "pop". Perhaps not worth switching from the 18-135, but could be a better alternative to that lens for those of us who don't have a mid-range zoom.

The way Ricoh is responding to this is soooo much better than the way Nikon responded to the problems with the D600. I believe that cost Nikon many customers.

Hi. No, it did not feel heavy, although it is obviously heavier than the DSLR's. Part of that 'lightness' could easily be attributed to my joy in holding the 645Z, however!

After seeing the 645Z yesterday and posting about it, I felt kind of silly that I didn't grab any photos. So I went back to my Pentax dealer today and it was still there. So here are a few photos. The tape you see on the card door was put there by the Pentax rep so that nobody would load a card and take a photo with this pre-production model. It is a very comfortable camera to hold and very straightforward to shoot with. I would love one, but it is worth more money than my car (and the Pentax rep wouldn't take it as a trade! :( ). |

Neither. The only wording was 645Z on the top window. ---------- Post added 05-08-14 at 08:13 AM ----------
This happened at a local camera store and it was brought to the store by a Pentax rep. The storage card door had tape over it, so that nobody would insert a card and take a photo with this pre-production model. It didn't occur to me to take a photo of it - I was a bit in awe of just holding and tinkering with this camera! When I used the tilt screen LCD, it brought me back to the days of the medium format film cameras with the waist level finders!

Wow. I finally got a chance to play with a pre-production 645Z. I felt that the ergonomics were great and it fit my hand(s!) well. Because it was a pre-production version, I wasn't allowed to take any photos yet, but is was still a wonderful experience to get the overall 'feel' of the camera. If I was a working pro (which I am not) I don't think I would have much trouble justifying this purchase (if the image quality matches the overall quality of this camera). Dear Santa....

As a new Pentax Forum member, I was interested to see how members called themselves various names, the most common being "Pentaxian". Here is a humorous look at possible names for Pentax members from various countries around the globe: Possible Pentax User Nicknames Worldwide USA – Pentaxian Canada – Pentaxian, eh? Mexico – los Pentaxcionista Scotland – MacPentaxish France – le Pentaxeau Japan – Pentakawa Germany – Herr/Frau Pentaxdorf China – Pentaxiang India – Pentaxakar England – Pentaxson Italy – Pentaxioli Spain – Sr./Sra. Pentaxenza Brazil – Pentachez Ireland – O’Pentaxahan Russia – Pentanoff Sweden – Pentaffson Kuwait – Pentaxajjar Greek – Pentaxelopoulos Korea – Pentakwan Poland – Pentoski Vietnam – Pentaxiang
(due to popular demand and the rules of grammar, the apostrophes and plural form have been banished:cool:) Do you have any other suggestions?:) wheelerp from Saskatchewn, Canada, eh? |

Thanks for the info on the 300mm. I have recently ordered the 55-300 WR and am looking forward to having a weather resistant telephoto for nature photography. Actually, being fairly new to a Pentax DSLR (a Nikon refugee), this will only be my second lens. The other is a 16-45 - pretty good zoom, albeit somewhat noisy.

Hi,
Saskatoon here, also. When is it going to stop raining??? ---------- Post added 04-23-14 at 08:06 PM ----------
If I may ask, what do you feel are the main advantages of the 300mm over the 55-300mm? ---------- Post added 04-23-14 at 08:07 PM ----------
Also from Saskatoon. I hope I can finish building the Ark quickly, though!

Yes, the geese and ducks are arriving now. It is incredible to witness some of the huge flocks we get - sometimes with white geese, there can be well over 1,000.
You asked about the Fuji x100 vs the Pentax MX-1. All three of my cameras have different uses. The K-50 is for nature and wildlife. The X100 is my travel and B&W camera, and the MX-1 is the 'go everywhere with me' camera. All three take great photos and I have yet to be disappointed with any of them.
And yourself?
