Shutter/on-off switch loose

So I bought a k-1000 in 1982. If I could find film I am sure it would still work. I bought a K5s a year ago and it has a list of issues the most recent is the on off switch is now "loose" and does not always seem to turn on even though all the displays are lighted up - the shutter does not seem to engage.
The other issues are loose port on the USB cable (does not work any more), the camera "freezes" often - and the only way to get it working again is to take the battery out
- and out it back in again - seems to happen mostly when battery needs a charge. And the camera would simply not read the 64mb cards I bought.

If anyone has a suggestion on how I can get a hold of someone at Pentax to discuss replacement of this camera it would be greatly appreciated. It's pretty much been a huge disappointment.

I would not buy such a large card - they do fail and you could lose too much data.

After hearing from a lot of folks on this forum I would now use nothing larger that a 32 - and have several on hand at any time and also use a card reader to download from because the camera jacks wear out - like mine has, when you keep plugging in the chord!

Faulty port on K5

So I went to download some images from my 9 month old k5. The camera was not showing up on my Mac - so I pulled the chord out and plugged it back in...and noticed I had to wiggle it to get it to show up on my laptop. It seems like the port on the camera has a lot of play and unless I put pressure on it - it is not connecting. Anyone experience this and is there an easy fix? One work around I thought of was the mini hdmi port - if I could get a cable iwn mini hdmi on one end and hdmi or fire wire on the other?

Thanks everyone.

32gb cards are on the way, and I will be figuring out how to update the firmware to see if that helps!

Great advice from all - and so fast!

Uhm, Steve - do you empty your card every time you shoot and before you turn off your camera? If not imagine the next time you turn it on the display reads "card not formatted" and you had just taken a bunch of shots.

Thanks - just ordered new (dif sz/brand) to see - have had no issues with the two 32gb cards I have been using - just seems odd that both the new 64gig cards would be bad...which makes me wonder if it's camera/firmware related with the larger size card...thanks for the "reasonable" reply!

Is the firmware issue why my 10 month old K5 will not keep the formatting on the two brand new 64gb sd cards I just bought?

I have had some issues with both my sd cards and my camera and am not sure which came first the camera or the card!
The brand new SD cards I have (Samsung 64 GB) have needed to be reformatted several times - causing the loss of images!
And the camera sometimes "freezes" meaning the only way to get it working again is to remove and replace the battery!
Any help with either or both issues would be great!
thanks!

SD card formatting issue

I have two brand new Samsung 64GB cards 80/40 read/write speeds - and they both have created the "card is not formatted" messeage on my Pentax K5s camera in the past couple days - lost a lot of imaged and am afraid to use them now - at $50 a piece they are not exactly "consumables" is there a problem with the camera or the cards?? Have not had the issue with the 32GB cards I bought with the camera about 8 months ago so maybe its the cards - or do I need to do something different with the camera?
Also the camera "freezes up" sometimes when I am shooting and the only way to get it to work again is to remove the battery and put it back in and then it's back to normal.
So maybe its the camera??
New to this digital stuff - my first camera was a K1000 in1980!
thanks!
